Midland Region's popular panel game devised by Tony Shryane and Edward J....

My Word! was a BBC radio quiz program, which aired from 1956-1988.  In the first half of each program, four panelists (always two men, two women) were asked questions about word definitions, origins and derivations, or the source of literary quotations, by the host.  In the second half, the two male panelists, Frank Muir and Denis Norden, were given a quotation each.  Muir and Norden then made up a comic story, ending with some twisted version (usually involving puns) of the quote.  (The...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appointment_with_Fear_(radio) World Service...

Here is a set of BBC radio thrillers from the late 1970s that seem to be pretty rare, as I really had to hunt to find any kind of information on them. I discovered these episodes when I was digging through boxes of old radio cassettes in the garage (from my tape trading days) and I digitized them in FLAC so others can enjoy them too (even if they’re not the greatest sound quality).   Appointment with Fear was a long-running BBC radio thriller that began its run in 1943 as the British version...

Everybody's Got Conditions By Sarah Wooley 1961. Tennessee Williams had just turned 50. In spite of a string of successful plays (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, A Streetcar Named Desire), the Broadway critics had been scathing about his most recent work. Initially he had his heart set on Katherine Hepburn but she wouldn't sign up for a long run so the play's producer got creative and the supporting role...

Rock and Doris and Elizabeth On the 15th July 1985, Rock Hudson appeared at a press call on the first day of filming for the TV show Doris Day's Best Friends as a favour to his old friend. The final in a series of BBC broadcasts with Dame Sybil Thorndike recreating favorite stage roles. This October 1967 broadcast of an 1899 Bernard Shaw play (premiered 1900 - 1907 on Broadway) with one of Shaw's classic "strong women" encountering and overcoming problems with the foibles of European and Arabic men is possibly more timely (if less believable) today than when it first premiered. It was most recently on Broadway with Ingrid Bergman and Pernell Roberts in 1972.

Their sponsorship ended in November 1947. The series...
