and the drought is over — adam scott wins in australia for his first title in almost four years. hello. we should be starting the programme by talking about a brilliant away 2—0 win for chelsea over tottenham in the english premier league, but instead all the headlines will be about racism, after an allegation of abuse by some spurs fans. our sports correspondent andy swiss explained what happened. this all happened around one hour into the match, after tottenham had a player sent off for a challenge on chelsea's antonio rudiger. shortly afterwards rudiger gestured he had been the subject of racist abuse from the crowd. he told his captain, who then told the referee, anthony taylor. an object was also thrown onto the pitch. the referee then spoke to both of the managers after that, and there was an announcement over the public address system, saying that racist behaviour from spectators was interfering with the game. that announcement over the public address system was repeated
with about five minutes left of the match, and then again during injury time. now, under uefa protocol, games can be abandoned if fans have already been warned twice before. what has emerged is that although there were three warnings, they were not three separate incidents. there was one incident and there were three warnings for that one incident. but clearly this is another very welcome to bbc news. worrying piece of news i'm aaron safir. for english football. we have seen a string our top stories: syria's refugee crisis worsens, of incidents in recent months as turkey's president warns 80,000 in the english game, people have fled fighting allegations of racist abuse from fans, we saw that in idlib province. at the manchester derby earlier this month and we also saw that in the fa the battle to control cup match between harringay australia's bushfires. and yeovil, which had more than 100 are still raging to be abandoned. this will be a big worry in new south wales. to everybody involved in the game, india's prime minister defends his new citizenship law, the players, the authorities and indeed the fans. after days of protests left let's get some reaction, we'll hear from the tottenham boss jose mourinho in a moment, but first here's the chelsea captain cesar azpulicueta. at least 20 people dead. we are told to report if an incident happens, and fresh from playing an american tv icon,
candid confession from tom hanks. we are chelsea, where a club that is very active and we raise a lot of campaigns towards racism. we are i'm kind of loud, a median some very active in that, and every time ways, i'm a and homer, i probably we meet the premier league, we met have deficit the referees before the game, we are told to report if an incident happens in the game. so in the game, after the red card, it happened, and toni came to me and he told me he was listening in the crowd, monkey noises. and obviously myjob as a captain is to go straight to the ref and report it. now it is under investigation and we have to work together towards the eradication of the problem. it is an issue in life and in football, unfortunately, and we have to keep working hard. i hate racism in society and i had racism in football. i am disappointed that things like that still can happen. —— hate. the
referee stopped the game, stopped the play. he spoke with the players and the captains and the coaches. i was losing, i didn't want the game to be stopped, but immediately i knew why the reason the game was stopped, and i obviously understood and accepted it. and i think also the club is a very proud club, in this kind of situation. and the club also internally will try to deal with it. after the game, the german international rudiger spoke about the incident on social media. he wrote: in sunday's other game
english premier league game manchester united were beaten by bottom side watford, as they lost for the fifth time this season. a mistake from david de gea gifted watford the lead, when ismaila sarr‘s mis—hit shot bounced through his arms. minutes later troy deeney wrapped up the 2—0 win from the penalty spot to give nigel pearson his first win since taking over. united stay eighth whilst watford remain bottom, but are now six points from safety. well, we didn't deserve to win the game by the way we performed. we we re game by the way we performed. we were too slow in possession. too slow in the intensity without the ball. and when they score 2—0 in quick succession, we didn't have enough to get back. in italy's serie a, atalanta thrashed milan 5—0. papu gomez put them on their way inside ten minutes, cutting in from the left and smashing the ball into the top corner. in the second half, they added four more, including two from josip ilicic.
atalanta are fifth, milan are down in tenth. let's have a quick look at some other stories making the headlines. in la liga, real madrid will go into the winter break two points behind leaders barcelona after drawing 0—0 with atheltic bilbao. it's real‘s third draw in a row. the philadelphia eagles have beaten the dallas cowboys in a key game in the race for the nfl play—offs. it leaves the 2018 super bowl winners in control of their own fate. they play the new york giants in their final game of the season. henrik kristoffersen has won the giant slalom in italy. it was the norwegian‘s first win and means that he goes top of both the slalom and giant slalom world cup standings. pakistan are on the verge of beating

hello. sunday saw the winter solstice, that means that at least from an astronomer‘s point of view, we are officially into winter. the days are also starting to get just that little bit longer. how about the weather? the start of christmas week — a bit of a mixed bag, sunshine and showers on the way. we're in between weather systems, one weather front moving out towards the east, another one heading our way for later on monday. but during the day on monday, we're in this sort of clearer slot here, but it's not completely clear. you can see some speckles of cloud. those are showers coming off the atlantic and that's exactly what's happening right now. showers across western scotland, end of the night, start of the morning, maybe one or two further south, but generally speaking, the weather is dry and it's not particularly cold even where the skies clear. six or seven in the south, a touch of frost there, as you'd expect this time of year in scotland. here's monday's weather forecast. so the weather is approaching but it's still way to the south—west of our neighbourhood, that does mean the weather is largely dry during the daytime itself, apart from showers which may affect western scotland for a time. there could be one or two moving through the lakes, but there's more clear weather
than wet weather around on monday. so i think a very decent day on the way for cardiff but birmingham, as i say a few showers there for glasgow, edinburgh, maybe ca rlisle. 11 degrees, so mild in the south, nine in glasgow. we are watching the next weather front approaching the neighbourhood, the thinking is sunny after dark, it'll start to turn cloudy then wet in cornwall, devon, throughout wales, and that rain will move across other parts of the uk as well. with it also comes mild air, and it's notjust across the uk but also spreading deeper into europe too. so the weather is very mild throughout the continent at the moment. let's have a look at christmas eve. you can see the extent of the cloud early in the day, outbreaks of rain, the rain will probably come and go from thicker cloud during the afternoon as well across the south but the trend will be for the weather to gradually improve through the day on christmas eve, and that's a hint of things to come for the big day
itself, because christmas day is expected to be a fine day throughout the country. high pressure is expected to build, the winds will fall light, the sun should be out for the morning on, a bit of mist start with but on the whole, but overall a fine day to walk off those calories. temperatures around nine or 10 degrees in south, six degrees in the north. so we don't get the snow but we do get the sunshine this christmas. 00:12:40,306 --> 4294966103:13:29,430 goodbye.
