vice president joe biden is still weighing whether or not to get in the race is getting 14%. sanders credited his pushing for the wealthy to pay more and the college affordable for his rise of support. >> i believe we should lift the cap on taxable income. that is not hillary clinton's position. we should raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. i voted against the war in iraq. hillary clinton voted for it. >> reporter: clinton ramped up her attacks on the gop has a commanding lead. on to the republicans. donald trump is a frontrunner in iowa and nationally. 23% of likely caucus goers support him. but ben carson is on the rise in second place with 18%.

trump has been able to reverse impressions of him. 61% of those questioned him have a positive view of him. in may, he only had 27% who rated him this way. one factor is the republican contest in iowa as what they call the mad as well contingent. gop voters mad or frustrated from president obama to hillary clinton to republicans in congress. john and alison. >> thanks so much. new information this morning on the execution-style killing of texas sheriff's office darren goforth. he was ambushed friday night. right now it is not clear why. the suspect, 30-year-old shannon miles will be arraigned on murder charges. his mother has come forward claiming he could not have done it because he was shopping with her at the time. let's get more from cnn's ed lavandera from houston. >> reporter: john and alison, the suspect in the murder of

darren goforth is expected to make a court appearance on monday morning. shannon miles was arrested and charged with capital murder saturday night after they say it was cold blooded and execution-style murder after darren goforth came out of the store and his car was at pump eight. he was shot several times and had no way to defend himself. he was shot because he was wearing a police uniform. what you have seen here over the course of the weekend is an emotional outpouring of support for goforth and his family. people have been coming and leaving balloons and flowers and messages. they have taken up a collection. over $50,000 in donations. there is a go fund me page on the internet. as you talk to people, people are struggling what to do given the tragic nature of this

shooting of the harris county sheriff's office. this is the best and only way that many people can figure out how to show their signs of support. not only for the family, but law enforcement community in the houston, texas area. john and alison. isis militants inflicting new devastation on the syrian city of palmyra. just days earlier, isis extremists blew up the 2,000-year-old temperature the in palmyra. the cultural agency is calling the attacks war crimes. a warning from susan rice. militants in pakistan are behind the series of attacks in afghanistan. attacks destabilizing the region.

leaders are worried they are not doing enough. the white house is preparing an unprecedented package of economic sanctions against chinese companies and individuals who profited from the hacking of trade secrets. it is not clear if the sanctions will be imposed or when. a decision is expected within the next two weeks according to "the washington post." president obama heads to anchorage, alaska highlighting climate change. he will rename mckinley to denali. this is a symbolic gesture. the president will also be meeting with local leaders to develop management strategies over fish and wildlife. time for an early start on your money. stock futures are lower. markets in asia taking another hit and stocking in the europe are mixed.

atlanta. one day after a fan died from the upper deck. the victim is 60-year-old greg murrey. he was a season ticket holder. cnn's boris sanchez has the latest on the investigation and how the tragedy unfolded. >> reporter: an autopsy was conducted on murrey to figure out what caused him to fall from the upper deck. they will look at the toxicology report to see if alcohol played a role. so far they do not suspect foul play. witnesses tell us in the seventh inning as alex rodriguez was approaching home plate, he ran to the railing to boo rodriguez. he fell over the railing and hit the concrete. paramedics rushed to him and

administered cpr. he was rushed to the hospital, but he did not make it. it is important to point out this is the second time in two years a fan has fallen to his death from the upper deck. in 2013, a fan reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the upper deck. so far, we have no indication that was murrey's intention. we need more information to find out what happened. in the meantime, his son jason putting out a statement telling cnn, quote gregory "ace" murrey was a father and husband and friend to many. he loved his family and atlanta. he was a season ticket holder with the same seats for 23 years. the night greg passed away he was doing one of his favorite things. difficult to imagine what the family is going through. the braves put out a statement offering their condolences. thanks for that, boris.

two war-torn countries are continuously getting worse and families are making the impossible choice of bringing their children on this very difficult and dangerous journey where they end up living in complete squalor. so many of them tell us if they stay back in their home lands, they are going to end up dead anyway. they have to somehow secure a future, any future, for their children. they do believe that that future lies in europe. this has been such an unspeakably difficult journey. many have spent days in the rain and stuck at the macedonia border soaking wet. children have been sick. they have run out of money by the time they reach this train station in budapest. they spend hours waiting under the beating sun under hungarian/serbian border. many going through the hungarian

camp they describe as a prison. many say the hungarian authorities treat them like animals. it is their treatment that reduced them to living like this. there is no place to shower here. i was speaking to a mother of two who left her children behind in damascus. she has a law degree. she cried as she was talking about how painful it was to think of them. she is making this journey so they don't have to suffer this kind of humiliation and hardship. the numbers will increase because the cause, what is forcing the people to make the journey, that is not being dealt with. war, economic poverty, corruption, oppressive regimes. those are the key reasons people are doing this. it is not because they want to. europe is now really waking up to a certain degree and recognizing this is a problem that is only going to get worse. it has to be dealt within europe in terms of handling those

history. it has burned more than 300,000 acres. right now, talking about weather, south florida under a flood watch drenched by tropical storm erika. let's get the latest from meteorologist pedram javaheri. of. >> good morning, john and good morning, alison. the general area of southern florida and what is left of erika across the region. we are watching this carefully. flooding is an issue. 2 to 4 inches have come down. the vast majority over central florida and working north. the severe drought is in the south. that is where the flood watches have expired with much locked in northern florida. the flood activity is staying offshore. the moisture get drawn up to the north and parts of the carolinas can get in on heavy rainfall. 4 to 6 inches. some areas could get up to 10 inches. that would be devastating flash flooding. something worth following across the area of south carolina.

generally speaking, hot conditions again. it is a summer september like pattern here where temperatures are warming in new york city at 92 degrees. that is above the average for this time of year. a trio of hurricanes across the pacific. in fact, it is the first time in recorded history we had three major hurricanes simultaneously. the good news is the vast majority now look like they will not impact land. especially the hawaiian islands. no bad blood with taylor swift and nicki minaj. they apparently have been having a harsh feud on twitter. after this performance, they hugged it out. swift took home best video for "bad blood." >> that video is really good. it's awesome. >> is it like "thriller?" better or worse than "thriller?"

calling for an urgent meeting of the eu ministers to discuss the spiraling migrant crisis. the goal to establish welcome centers to house and feed and screen thousands of migrants fleeing afghanistan, syria and iraq. i want to bring in senior international correspondent arwa damon live in budapest. arwa, this is hitting hungary very, very hard. >> reporter: they are. they are also hitting hungary very hard because of hungary's own policy and how its government has ended up handling this current ongoing crisis. along the way, people have been saying people are going through so much. they spend days in the rain with no shelter. hours waiting under the beating sun and left to languish at the

budapest train station. waiting here for days for hungarian authorities to allow them to move to austria and germany. people don't want to stay here. they don't have the means to be able to care for themselves properly. these are not people who can afford a hotel. they have not been able to shower for days. they are not used to living like this. a lot of people don't want to be filmed because they don't want to seen. they are ashamed. the vast majority are refugees from the war zones of iraq and syria. they have brought their children on this journey because although they know it is a great risk to them, they say that if they stay back home they are going to end up dead anyway. why not take a chance and bring them to europe so they can give themselves and families and children a future. at this stage, any future.

the hungarian government has been coming under a lot of criticism for handling this crisis. especially when it comes to the fact they were not allowing refugees to board the trains. right now, today, we have been seeing what at the very least seems to be at least a turning of a blind eye. refugees who can prove they are from iraq or syria, have been allowed today to buy train tickets, but also board the trains and continue their journey. john. >> arwa damon, look at the difficulty all around you. thank you for your reporting. we are watching gas prices and plummeting ahead of the holiday weekend. good for us if you drive. that's next on "early start." we will have your money.
