are a few issues on the plate. first iran. this is something the prime minister has talked a lot about. he sees iran as a major threat. he dislikes the iranian nuclear deal saying fix it or nix it. although this is a deal with a lot of support from the international community. france's president macron will be in italy to talk about the deal and the iran missile program and involvement in syria and lebanon. that is another concern the prime minister has with involvement on the israeli border. the other topic with the president is the peace deal. he has pushed for the ultimate deal of peace with the israelis and palestinians. he does have a plan, although none of us has seen it, and no officials have seen it either. we are looking forward to seeing that and what it could be. we are talking about the u.s. embassy move which is expected

vladimir putin's so-called humanitarian pause over the past week, different parts of eastern ghouta have come under air strikes and shelling. also we are seeing advances by the regime on the ground. the ground offensive fighting as they try to enter eastern ghouta. we hear regime forces on sunday managed to make gains and captured a number of villages. that prompted civilians from the areas to flee westward. this as we heard from president bashar al assad as you mentioned. they are fighting against terrorism. that is the regime's narrative for a few years now. he is saying that civilians can leave while the fighting is going on. the reality on the ground is a complex situation. we have not seen civilians trying to leave the area. both sides blaming each other for why. all eyes today are on a u.n.

saw. good morning. welcome to "early start." i'm dave briggs. >> i'm christine romans. it is 5:00 a.m. in new york. white house officials depending the tar -- defending the tariffs the president announced. he gave no further details, but last week's surprise announcement caused an immediate outcry from u.s. businesses, trade partners and fellow republicans. one fear it risks jobs in industries that rely on steel and aluminum. if you drink beer or buy a car, prices could go up. white house officials were on a pr offensive. promising it would not hurt the broader economy. stating no countries will be exempex exem exempt. here is peter navarro.
