just your regular consumer of news to take a look at this and not feel overwhelmed and also not feel as though they understand the scope of what is happening. there are so many investigations. everything is so partisanly divided. everyone has an opinion about it. people stand back and say just tell me when it is all over and we know what happened. we're overwhelmed right now. you think the white house understands that. i think they have an instinct for that. they play off of that. >> sometimes it feels they are trolling the media. let's turn to pennsylvania. your back yard. the huge special election today. polls open in two hours. this is a fascinating race. tim murray ran unopposed in 2014 and 2016. nate silver's operation says when they weight this district it is 21% more republican

leaning than the nation as a whole. what does it mean if conor lamb can win in the very red district? >> i think the biggest thing to understand about this race because it is here and local and i understand the people, i think lamb for the democrats, the biggest thing for them is that they should run candidates that fit their district. this is a -- even though there are 25,000 more registered democrats, it leans more moderate to conservative. it is important for the candidates to pick that mold. lamb, democrat is not anywhere on his signs or on his ads. he is almost parallel with rick

sa saccone on almost all his issues. the sort of deciding swing voter in this is the union voter. tim murphy was very, very good with union voter. so was trump. the problem for saccone is he is a right to work candidate. that makes the union vote swing more toward lamb because they believe he has their backs. i don't think as many voters as i talked to who are union voters, they still love trump and vote for him again. because of saccone's right to work stance, they are leaning toward lamb because they see him as someone that is independent. >> it is clear here the trump victory in 2016 has told both parties they can no longer take the working american for granted. both parties for years did that. that is why the trade stuff, l

rooney expresses the sentiment of a lot of people. whether you are a trump hillary. this is difficult to wade through and weigh out every piece of evidence and every statement and say this is conclusive and this is what is happening. a lot of people are stepping back from the constant swirl and waiting to see what mueller says. i think once that happens, there will be more clarity not only for washington, but also for the american people. >> the leaks and the pieces of information and trying to talk to people who have been deposed. it is a lot of swirling around. let's talk about what is happening in your district. p.a. 18. what will decide that race?

>> well, it is really fascinating. as we all know, special elections are difficult to figure out in terms of who will win. all polling points to conor lamb having the lead. special elections you don't know who will show up on a cold tuesday to vote for a member of congress in a seat that doesn't exist anymore. the pennsylvania state supreme court redrew all of the seats. the seat these two men, rick saccone, the republican and cono rer r lamb, the democrat, doesn't exist anymore. this makes the race interesting. today, i'm looking for in terms of the deciders, i'm looking at union voters. they have not weakened their support for trump. when they look at lamb and

saccone, they have two men on the same page with the exception of right to work. that is taking them away from saccone and toward lamb because lamb is a right to work democrat. both men are running on the same issues. lamb has refused to criticize trump. he supports his tariffs. he is not running as a democrat, but more as an independent. >> both running against nancy pelosi. that may hold implications down the line in 2018. we will ask about the rally on saturday night. you are not just part of the districdi distri district. you were at the rally when the president came. the president talked about maxine waters and nancy pelosi and then rick saccone was the star. seth meyers put this in the proper speculative.

listen. -- proper perspective. listen. >> as the republican, rick saccone, he barely came up. president trump is the guy you show to the birthday party and doesn't bring a gift and sinks "stairway to heaven" ten times in a row. >> the president has made this race about him. what does that mean if saccone loses? >> well, first of all, seth has pittsburgh roots. i thought i would point that out to you. look, i tooalked to people who attended the event. the people were there for the president. what this means for the president is saccone loses is you got to put more pressure in the races. you cannot just show up a couple days ahead of time. i really do not believe based on

the people that i interviewed across the vast district. it took me an hour to get to a coal miners rally the other day for lamb. this is a massive district. i think that what it tells the trump administration is you have to tell better stories about your candidate. saccone did not have the best message about what he has done and what he accomplished in life. you have to have less of a race about nancy pelosi. that did not work in this race. you have to talk more about his accomplishments. i think if saccone loses, that is the trump administration has to remember going forward into the mid terms. >> it is all about pittsburgh. right? you made that very clear. >> center of the universe. >> do some exit polling for us today. we will follow you on twitter.
