the white house is preparing its formal follow-up to the singapore summit. the u.s. expected to give north korea a request and timeline regarding the pyongyang commitment to denuclearization. we have alexandra field in seoul at 5:14 with the latest. where are we headed? >> reporter: dave, the world watched when president trump and kim jong-un signed that agreement in singapore agreeing essentially to work toward denuclearization. there was no explaination at tht time. the plan will be put in place.
1:15 am
they have to present north korea for the vision of implementation. that comes with a set of quote/unquote asks and data to have north korea act quickly and move ahead to denuclearize. james mattis is making his way to the region this week and stopping in china and south korea and japan where north korea is a top item on the agenda. when it comes to what north korea has done in the aftermath of the summit and if they are signals they are trustworthy. there were other agreements with the president and kim, a pledge to return the service members whose bodies were left since the korean war. president trump expects the return up to 200 sets of remains. we know there are 5,300 sets of remains belonging to u.s.

service members in north korea. the united states making preparations to receive the remains. sending about 100 wooden coffins to the dmz. the remains, will be taken to the air base in south korea and flown to the united states for dna testing. it is at that point family members would be notified. dave. >> a gesture, but nothing concrete toward denuclearization. alex, thank you. we saw great pictures over the weekend of women in saudi arabia taking the wheel for the first time. they are now legally permitted to drive in saudi arabia after decades old ban lifted sunday. cnn's jomana karadsheh live with the latest. jomana, we see the pictures. is the mood happy or ex-as paspd like this should have happened a long time ago or i need my

permission from my brother or dad to do this. >> reporter: michelle, it has been incredible. emotional for the women we met. you know, they can't believe this is finally happening that they can drive legally without the fear of being arrested. at the same time, you know, there are some weighting to see what kind of reaction they will get from the ultra conservative society. in big cities here like jeddah, men have been welcoming of this and women have felt comfortable on the roads. as you mentioned, this is a big step forward. this is what everyone here is saying. there is still a long road ahead when it comes to equality in saudi arabia. especially when it comes to that repressive guardianship law. women here from the moment they are born until they die, they cannot take basic decisions like ability to travel or go to
1:18 am
college without getting approval of a male guardian. some of the women we spoken to, michelle, say they think is going to change soon. they are seeing the loosening up to the repressive law. one thing we have to mention on this day, absent, not behind the wheel, but behind bars the women's rights activists who for years spent trying to campaign for the women's rights to drive in saudi arabia and they were rounded up in recent arrests of human rights activists here in the kingdom. michelle. >> just a step. it must have been great to be there, jomana. thank you. >> it is unusual. you want to celebrate. it is 2018. >> you have to see it both ways. you need permission to do this. however, you are seeing happy faces and celebrating. >> baby steps. >> nice to see happiness.

down that road lies a word in which the most zealous sign up for public service. that benefits no one. >> that would be a scary situation. turkey president recep tayyip erdogan tightening the threat to political dominance. erdogan declaring himself the winner before the announcement was made. his opponents claiming state media and the election commission manipulated the results. let's go to sam kiley. sam, what is the word here? is this a clean election? >> reporter: the results of the election have been developed by the coalition led by the presidential candidate most likely to be able to force a runoff if anybody was against mr. erdogan. that did not come to pass. both sides have accepted election results showing mr.
1:37 am
erdogan got close to 53%. his rival around 30%. mr. erdogan also took with the coalition the majority of the seats in turkey's parliament. in fact, the erdogan party coalition and erdogan himself now have emerged from the process stronger than when he went into it. this, of course, following the constitutional changes that was brought in after the referendum last year means power is heavily concentrated in the hands of the turkey president. he can appoint his own cabinet and rule by decree and rule in the way the second chamber, legislation, effectively watered down. he now controls it and his power is going to be much more absolute than it was even before the elections when he was the president and unable to use the full force of the new constitutional dispensation.
