for the last nine months, muilenburg tried to get the plane back in the air. otherwise, they announced they were suspended action. that was a huge blow to suppliers and companies. that shifts the timeline for the 737's return throughout the year. the board was very concerned about the feedback it was getting from customers and regulato regulators, about poor communications two muilenburg himself. it boils down to lack of on trying to fix the problem with the 737 max. but the board decided it was on the right track with regulators and now was a good time to make that change. big picture here -- boeing is

christmas may be as close as you can get. meteorologist pedram javaheri will have your forecast. >> you look at where the snow is on the ground, you have to be in the higher elevation or the northern tier of the country. you've had days where plenty was shifted farther towards the south. but that won't be the case this go around. high pressure begins to build here. a blow moving system on the coastline. we'll see a warming trend and a drying trend, as this departs off of the carolinas. plenty of rainfall on the immediate coast of georgia and south carolina. this is all but offshore because we see the drier weather pattern take shape. the four-corner states, in the high country of arizona and utah, in the areas of california.

idaho issuing a missing children alert. the children were last season weeks before tammy daybell was found dead. another tragic mystery in the backwoods of michigan. a body found submerged near the town of honor has been found as 37-year-old adrian quinntal. she had not been seen since she had called to say she was involved in a shoot-out with two men. >> it's been hard searching for her. and even though we're glad to have closures it's been heart wrenching. a search had been hampered by flooding in the area. officials say an initial investigation showed no signs of foul play, even though there were shell casings and bullet holes where quintal was staying.

[ yelling ] >> let go of my leg. >> he just bit me. >> the officers were responding to a report of a stolen car. after a pursuit, the deputies tried to pull david ward out, thinking he was the carjacker. it turns out, ward was driving his own car and had been the victim of a carjacking. he later died at the hospital.

the county sheriff's office says blount will be on leave while the incident is being investigated. the officer is responsible for his own death, because he took bizarre actions that made deputies think he was an armed carjacker. no team will fire him but kaepernick's new nike is flying off of the shelves. the sneaker has a not-so-subtle message with the 8-14-16, on the sole of the shoe. that was the first time the quarterback took a knee for the national anthem. the sneakers retail for $110. eddie murphy's return to "saturday night live" was a ratings triumph.

the christmas spirit coming alive in beth hlehebethlehem. the city claiming to be the birthplace of jesus, holding celebrations and carols. oren leibermann is joining us live. >> reporter: joe, it's unfolding behind me, with the church of the nativity, as we build toward midnight mass. the square behind me filling up. a few hundred people. there's a long way to go until it's full. all week they are calling for rain today. it's quite the opposite. there's a few clouds dotting the

sky. it is a festive and joy us occasion. and you get that feeling looking behind me. today, it won't be a religious or spiritual celebration, it will be an economic celebration. a lot of the hotels in the area are booked. and they are up some 15%, to make the city happy and makes everyone around here happy. all of that will add to the occasion behind us. as we build into this evening, midnight mass is the highlight. and that's what the faithful are looking forward to. we're getting there, even though there is a long way to go here. there's been christmas carols playing throughout the day. and a short time ago, there's a rehearsal of the religious scouts that came through. we look at all of that building towards the highlight this evening. >> oren leibermann thanks for that. christmas tradition forced to change in paris. for the first time in more than 200 years, the city's iconic

notre dame cathedral will not have christmas mass. melissa bell is live for us in paris. you know the images of notre dame, burning, so memorable from april. walk us through the reconstruction efforts. and when you're hearing from officials when the reconstruction will end. >> reporter: in the wake of that fire, the world looked on aghast as the flames engulfed the cathedral. the french president said they planned to rebuild in five years. no christmas eve mass here, for the first time since the wake of the french revolution, where notre dame was turned into a temple of reason. but since 1804, a mass has been held here.

and it doesn't look like there will be one soon. you remember when the spire collapsed. that spire had been being renovated. the scaffolding is threatening the structure. that's why the giant crane has been put there to pull out the bits of metal. this is what the chaplain of notre dame told us yesterday, about when the reconstruction will start. >> the construction will begin in a year's time. the building is still fragile because of the scaffolding that is weighing on the walls. >> reporter: picking out the scaffolding is a delicate operation. and the five-year deadline is looking hopeful. >> amazing to see the cathedral

for the holidays. the stand in williamson county, texas, caught fire on monday, igniting the fireworks. firefighters brought the blaze under control. no one was injured. the cause of that was under investigation. it would have been better at night. firefighters in poke county, going beyond the call of duty, saving christmas presents after responding to a fire over the weekend. crews went in to retrieve the gifts and the christmas tree. all of the gifts and the tree were undamaged. a 6-year-old, er cancer patient bringing gifts to a hospital where she underwent treatment. poppy was diagnosed with leukemia around christmas last year.

they were calling for rain all week. instead, it is just a little rain expected here. we expect more tourists to come here as we get closer to midnight mass. it is very much an economic celebration for the city of bethlehem. tourism numbers are up 15% over last year. hotels are booked and the stores are full. that will add to the occasion here and the festivities and the warm feeling here that will go on throughout the day. as you pointed out, the moment we're all waiting for, about 12 hours away at this point, midnight mass. we get towards that and it becomes dark here as evening sets in, it will become more beautiful and i suspect more joyous. >> beautiful and festive. orr oren leibermann, thanks. a bit of a different story in france. a christmas tradition forced to

change in paris for the first time in more than 200 years. the city's iconic notre dame cathedral will not celebrate christmas mass. the landmark nearly destroyed by huge fire back in april. melissa bell is live in paris. >> reporter: the parisian will have to get used to not having christmas mass here at notre dame. that's because of the scale of the devastation that was caused by the flames. back in april, the whole world looked on aghast, when the flames took over the 850-year-old cathedral. at one point, the great spire in the center of it collapsed to the gasps of those that gathered all around. the trouble with the
