7:29 pm
expand the pipelines. then stephen moore will discuss trump's proposal to lower taxes and increase jobs and grow the economy. also joining us, katrina author and publisher at the nation to discuss priorities in a republican journalists. and how journal should cover trump. watch live at 7:00 a.m. eastern on 7:00 a.m. eastern. join the discussion. >> earlier today, senate majority leader mitch mcconnell another republican leader spoke to reporters at the capitol. they talked they talked about confronting president trump's cabinet nominees and criticize the infrastructure plan. this is 15 minutes. >> let me start by saying i'll be going shortly to a meeting at the white house with senator schumer, senator feinstein, and
7:30 pm
chairman grassley to discuss the supreme court nomination which the president has indicated will be coming down to us in the near future. this is part of the consultation process on advise and consent. we will be taking the opportunity to give advice on a bipartisan basis to the president prior to his decision about who to send up. in terms terms of the senate schedule today, we're hopeful we'll get a cabinet nominee confirmed, as as you know there is committee action today, i'll be following) secretary of state designee to listen which will ripen next week. and then we will move into approving cabinet appointment, both controversial noncontroversial beginning next
7:31 pm
week. >> along those same lines, earlier earlier today the senate committee voted out secretary designate child, governor nikki haley and doctor ben carson. just to give you a context for the foot dragging that democrats are imposing upon this president and the administration, at this point in president obama's administration five administration five days into the administration there are 14 cabinet members conference. so far there's three under president trump. there's there's simply no excuse for this, 12 of the nominees have all of their paperwork completed and as the majority leader indicated once there voted out of committee there available for action. but this is attempting to litigate or relitigate the election. our democratic friends need to get over the fact that
7:32 pm
the election is over. now we have the responsibility of governing, hopefully together, but instead so far they have chosen to obstruct and foot track. one of the most shameful and reckless parts of this is the way in which they delayed the confirmation of an important member of president trump's national security cabinet, you'll recall general medicine and kelly were confirmed early but director of the cia, pompeo was carried over the weekend which we could've done on friday but was not agree to. we need to get a democratic colleagues that the election is done and gone when they need to get with the program when it comes to approving these noncontroversial nominees and give the president the benefit of the cabinet that he deserves in order to start governing for the benefit of the country. >> at the senate committee this
7:33 pm
morning we reported out nominees both of which are noncontroversial and should be clear for floor action as quickly as possible. but, as my colleagues have pointed out it's clear this is nothing more than playing political games with the nominees and nothing less than that. obviously the president won an election. he deserves to get his people in place. we want to be able to work with him. part of being able to get to work right away is getting your team out there. the democrats as pointed out in day one gay president obama seven nominees and at the end of a two-week time he got all of his nominees in place, we got to in day one and everything now is a fight to try to get the nominees put in place. they will get there eventually. the democrats can play games but
7:34 pm
it's not going to end up in any result other than it will drag the process out to make it harder for the president and his team to begin the process of governing this country. when when they get there will work with the administration, the house in the senate. we are committed to repealing and replacing obama care. and to reforming the tax code, to reducing the regulatory burden that is making it so hard in this country for american businesses to create jobs and grow the economy. we are committed to keeping americans safe and an increasingly dangerous world. those are goal shared and issues in which we are united. were looking for to rolling up her sleeves and going to work to make them become a reality. with a chance to discuss issues further this week we go to philadelphia and have an opportunity to meet with our team and the administration. >> president trump has nominated an all-star team for his cabinet. chairman of the environment and public works committee want to focus on one of those not the
7:35 pm
nominee of the environmental protection agency. an agency which which has been on the regulatory rampage for the last eight years with so many regulations that cost people their jobs, impacted states in terms of income. the epa has lost its way. scott pruett is the right person to be in charge of that agency, an agency, an agency that needs to be modernized, reformed, improved. people on both sides of the aisle has expressed confidence because attorney general in his home state of oklahoma is actually protected the environment it at the same time strengthen the economy and stood up for states right. when you take a look at epa nominees bill clinton or george w. bush or brock obama, each of them was confirmed in january.
7:36 pm
each was confirmed in january. we're going to move ahead swiftly with scott pruitt's vote in committee. we all want clean air and clean water and clean land. we can do it without hurting the economy at the same time. >> on friday, this country witnessed the peaceful transition of power. i was fortunate to have colorado students watching the inauguration as they admired our constitution at work. unfortunately around the same time for less admirable action was taken place in the senate. as chuck schumer and others decided they would stall all reaches the national security team. the practice at this point in time dozens of cabinet members have been put in place five days after the inauguration. in this case, a key person, the cia director has not been done.
7:37 pm
if you listen to the committee confirmation hearings taken place some people seem to be more interested in cutting horses and hay bales on their nominees than on whether they will do the right job for this country. stop the silliness, stop the service, service, let's move on with the business of the country. [inaudible] we hear the plan that senator schumer talks about is that something you could get on board with? >> let me tell you what i don't think we ought to do. i don't think we ought to bar almost $1 trillion and plug up a bunch of federal accounts, incur additional debt and don't build
7:38 pm
any projects to speak of. so i can tell tell you what i'm against is the replication of the obama stimulus package in 2009. with regard to what we could before, my understanding is the administration has a team who are together a proposal that we can all take a look at. that includes people both inside the administration and i think the secretary of transportation. they are going to come up with a proposal. proposal. we will take a look at it. i hope it'll be something credibly paid for. we have a $21 trillion debt. but i think we'd all like to tackle infrastructure in a credible way and hopefully that is what they will recommend. [inaudible]
7:39 pm
it the president talked about illegal cause folks causing him the popular vote. >> i can tell you on the issue of election fraud which democratic colleagues arguers fiction, there are people in jail in kentucky over this kind of activity. it does occur, there's always arguments on both sides about how much, how, how frequent, and all the rest. but most states have done a better job, most most states have done a better job on this front. but the notion that election fraud is a fiction is not true. >> would you encourage him to pick us up in court nominee off a list of 21 that he talks about when he was running for the white house. and schumer has not said whether or not those people are acceptable or not outside --
7:40 pm
what is your point on that. >> i anticipate what will get from the president is a highly qualified, well credentialed conservative jurists. the president has indicated with a list that you refer to the types of people we can expect to be set up. i don't know that he is committed to that particular list, but i anticipate a well-qualified nominee. >> how can we know the nominee is coming in the next few days, do you have any sense. >> i don't know anymore than what you heard. >> but i'm really talking about timing, do you have any sense of when in the year coming up you'd like to see that nomination wrapped up? and giving whatever timing do you have a concern that the core arguments the supreme court
7:41 pm
needs nine justices not eight might be undermined by this past year. >> no. there's a big difference between not approving a supreme court nominee in the middle of a highly contested presidential election and the beginning of a four-year term. so let's take a look at clinton and obama was supreme court vacancies in their first terms. under clinton, ginsburg and breyer, no filibuster. in other words no one required us to get 60 votes. under obama, soto mayor and kagan, no filibuster, that's apples and apples. first term, new president, supreme court vacancy. what, supreme court vacancy. what we hope is that our democratic friends will treat president trumps nominees in the
7:42 pm
same way we treated clinton and obama. >> we have not taken the first step yet, the first first step will be the name coming up. note on. >> there's a lot of different ideas about how to replace obama care. as of us has said repeatedly it will be done in consultation with the new secretary of health and human services, the new head of cns and active discussion among house and senate republicans because we anticipate no cooperation with the other side.
7:43 pm
so it will be in covenant upon us, as many republicans to come up with the replacement. i would remind you, said this before, don't want to for you too much but what do bill clinton said last year? is the craziest thing you've ever seen. what are the polls say? eight out of ten americans one it replaced entirely or dramatically change. if hillary clinton had been elected we would be revisiting obama care. the status quo is not acceptable. we understand that, we are going to tackle this big problem. >> i'm sure you'd be concerned if there were three to 5,000,000 million people voting for the democrats illegally. [inaudible] >> senate democrats spoke to reporters us afternoon. minority leader chuck chuck chuck schumer's and others
