ASU's University Technology Officer Adrian Sannier talks to the University Libraries about IT's new Technology Strategy, the four core elements of the strategy, and the University Libraries central role in the strategy.
In part one of our three part series, Sannier describes how the current, ânear followerâ technology strategy needs to be challenged. The university, as a vertically integrated industry, needs to let go of technologies it helped to create, and look outside the university to form strategic alliances. He then describes the four core businesses in the technology strategy:
(1) Academic or Learning Technology: university needs to lead the way;
(2) Research Technology: new infrastructure of large data sets;
(3) Fifth campus: online campus, one university many places; and
(4) the Library: digital presence. Stay tuned for our next podcast where Dr.
Sannier discusses: Content Management Systems, e-Books, For Profit Publishing, e-Publishing, and Paperless University.
In part two he answers questions from the audience covering a wide range of topics, including:
1 Implementing content management tools and sharing resources
2 Discussing the future of electronic books
3 Providing an alternate means for academic publishing
4 Discussing a paperless campus.
This portion runs approximately 27 minutes.
In part three he answers questions from the audience covering a wide range of topics, including:
1 Incorporating a 1 to 1 computing strategy for students
2 Developing millennial students technical skills for research and writing
3 orming strategic alliances with vendors and companies to improve search technologies
4 Emphasizing the need for librarians to play a central role in the new technology strategy
5 Stressing the need to share information across the university through wikis and blogs
