The School Safety Review Checklist is an important component of the broader school crisis resources that have been developed by the Vermont School Crisis Planning Team. The Team is comprised of members from the law enforcement, emergency management, health, and education organizations who have worked throughout the year to update school and emergency service resources. The School Safety Review Checklist is intended to be used in conjunction with the School Crisis Procedures Guide, which can be accessed from the Vermont Department of Education Web site. School leaders can improve school safety and help reduce the risk to students and staff by annually conducting buildings and grounds safety review and correcting any deficiencies that are identified. It is understood that this document needs to be tailored to the varying needs and size of Vermont schools. Therefore, this department encourages taking advantage of the electronic format and revise the Safety Checklist to meet your particular circumstances.
