owners, they don't want more help from the government. they just want the ability to run their businesses. they want the freedom to do that in a safe way. and yet they are continually shut down even though the science and data does not back it up. it is really sad. this will all just continue the devastation that we're seeing in new york as people and corporations continue to flee what was once a really fantastic and vibrant city. elizabeth: kristin tate. thanks for joining us. great to have you on. >> thank you, liz. elizabeth: coming up, national border patrol council president brandon judd on this development, officials are warning that human smugglers are trying to hide dozens of stash houses, maybe even more than that, with illegal border crossers and illegal aliens hiding stash houses in suburban neighborhoods across the country as authorities now warn gangs like ms-13 are making big bucks off of human smuggling. the story next. >> when half of the border patrol is no longer on that

♪. elizabeth: okay. let's welcome back to the show national border patrol council president brandon judd. it is great to see you again, brandon. polls show americans and immigrants want humane legal immigration. authorities in laredo, texas warning about dozens of human stash houses being hidden by human smugglers inside neighborhoods in suburbia. what is going on here? >> because the trump policies have been so effective in controlling the border we've been more effective on the border than we ever been before my entire career, cartels are now forced to work in extraordinary measures. they're forced to go out and rent homes. they are forced to go out to find homes. the problem with these homes, they are extremely unsanitary. they're extremely dangerous. they're extremely cramped and these cartels who do not care at all for human life, they're packing these individuals in
there, waiting until they have transport to move them further into the united states. most people think that illegal border crossings, they stay in texas and california and arizona and that is not true. they work their way up to atlanta, to chicago, to new york. they work throughout the entire united states. so they have to get the transport to them to get them to those destinations. elizabeth: didn't the justice department recently warn that gangs like ms-13 are making big bucks off of human smuggling? >> yeah. this is actually a multibillion-dollar industry per year. the cartels, organized crime, that is what cartels are, they are organized crime, they act as a business. they look for how can they generate a profit, how can they generate revenue. one of the best ways to do it is tie border patrol hands up crossing lower value products, making sure that our agents go to take those individuals into custody and they create artificial gaps in our coverage on the border. they cross their higher value
products right behind us. that is why we have to be concerned about what might be coming if we're going to see larger numbers of people coming up to the border, more caravans. policies make a huge difference and the trump administration did a great job on the border. and continue to do a great job. elizabeth: border security, border security officials say nearly 400 stash houses with illegal border crossers inside of them across the country n laredo there are about 100 of them. they're ferried out of laredo throughout the country. laredo sector is a big sector. it covers 175 miles of border area from mexico-texas border up through the boundaries of oklahoma and arkansas. we're talking hundreds of stash houses now. >> and what is scarery about that, that is what we know of.
just because we know that there is 100 stash houses in laredo, doesn't mean that is all there is. there will be a lot more. we take down the stash houses as they come up and they will spring back up this is not necessarily a bad thing. we want crime to have to go to extraordinary measures. that makes it more difficult to sell their products to people that, to would-be illegal border crossers in other countries like guatemala, el salvador, honduras, even china. so we want to make it as difficult as we possibly can and that's what has been done here. now we have to have the intel to continue to shut down these stash houses. elizabeth: now we have got acting customs and border protection commissioner mark morgan, a guest on our show, he is talking about the spike in illegal border crossings. he said, quote, cartels and human smugglers are fueling perceptions that our borders will once again be wide open and then we will be reinstating the loopholes that have been closed. is this what we can expect now
coming? >> yes. so what the cartels understand is they know what the obama administration brought. they know how they were able to operate under the obama administration. they're hoping that they're going to be able to do that again. what i would say is we have to hope, we have to cross our fingers that a biden administration is going to look at those failures and are going to shut down those loopholes because if they do not, we are in fact going to have a huge flood of more people crossing our borders illegally. elizabeth: well arrests have been rising for six straight months. brandon judd, good to see you, arrests at border, rather. thanks for joining us. >> thank you. elizabeth: catch our own grady trimble. he will be live from the border wall from arizona all day long tomorrow on fox business. thanks for joining us tonight, i'm elizabeth macdonald. you've been watching "the evening edit." we hope you have a good evening. join us again tomorrow night.
