Profile on Gustav Heckmann and mostly in his own words: Gustav Heckmann, a Graduate of the famous Göttingen University (where he studied under teachers in Physics like Max Planck, Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr) was the initiator of the so called "Urgent Appeal" from 1932, one of the last attempts by celebrities of the time (e.g., Albert Einstein, Käthe Kollwitz and others) to prevent the takeover of power by Hitler and the Nazis. For most of his later life (returning to West Grmany/Hannover after escape and emigration from Nazi Germany) he worked in post-war academic teacher education and was part of reform efforts to modernize education in a post-war Germany.
