and marcus, do police think the -- think these are connected? marcus: there appear to be a lot of reasons to draw the conclusion the same suspects may be responsible for both crimes. this medicap pharmacy location at 2527 easton blvd was the first one hit around 2:20 sunday morning. a boarded up front door is the only visible sign of what happened over the weekend. a little more than 7 miles away, the same boarded up front door marks the medicap on beaver avenue, hit about 4:45, some two hours after the location on easton. an indication the same suspects may have committed both crimes. >> you can't ignore the fact that they were both the same night and the time was close. there were similarities in the crimes. marcus: des moines police sergeant paul parezik says there is still work to be done before he can say with certainty the same suspects are wanted for both burglaries. but -- >> pretty obvuious similarities between the we are now examining two. the video and whatever forensic

marcus: according to the police report from the easton blvd burglary, three suspects were black males dressed in dark blue hooded sweatshirt and sweat pants and wearing gloves. the burglary of the pharmacies netted bottles of oxymorphone, morphine, hydrocodone, oxycodone and oxycontin. ,police tell us the suspects took the drugs that are in demand and knew what they were looking for. nothing else was taken. kevin: it -- a des moines mom has received her sentence in the drug overdose death of her 5-year-old daughter. as part of a plea bargain, tionne bloodsaw will serve a maximum of forty years in prison, pleading guilty to child endangerment resulting in serious injury, manufacturing of a controlled substance, and two counts of neglect of a dependent person. in october 2014, bloodsaw's 5-year-old daughter jayda canada was found dead from an overdose of morphine inside her downtown apartment. >> what is it that you did that created a substantial risk to

her physical, mental, or emotional health or safety? >> i acted or failed to act, which resulted in my daughter jayda ingesting morphine, which resulted in a serious injury. this is why had to go to polk county. kevin: bloodsaw's boyfriend deshaun trombone has been sentenced to 65-years in prison. steve: new information tonight in a shooting north of des moines. polk county deputies today charged 25-year-old maria eshom and 32-year-old dewayne cole with a long list of charges. they include robbery, intimidation, drug possession, parole violation, and possession of a weapon by a felon. polk county investigations say the pair got into an argument with another group of people on october 22. they then fired shots into the victim's car. polk county investigators are still looking for information in in a deadly weekend shooting at a nightclub north of des moines. gunshots were fired during a fight outside evolution nightclub on sunday morning, killing 20-year-old dashawn smith. 3 other people were wounded. investigators have not released any information on a possible suspect.

is asked to call polk county crimestoppers at 515-223-1400. kevin: was a des moines teenager legally insane when he brutally beat his elderly neighbors? testimony resumes tomorrow in the first degree murder trial of ngor makuey. he was 19-years-old when des moines police say he broke into 97-year-old robert anderson's home and beat him to death. makuey's waved a jury trial. his case is being heard by a judge. steve: construction news on the iowa event center hotel. it is scheduled to start in february. project, located just south of $100 million the iowa events center downtown, is expected to open for business in march of 2018. the des moines council approved the plan just minutes ago which , will mean major redevelopment in the area in and around the events center. right now, the des moines city council is also set to approve a big improvement plan for walnut street. a streetscaping project will soon get underway on walnut downtown, from 2nd street to

10th street. kcci's cynthia fodor is there live with more. cynthia? cynthia: steve, as you know this , is where the transit mall for des moines. now, after years and years of moving forward with revitalizing walnut street. new businesses may soon find a new home downtown, near where younkers department store once now, the old shopping destination is a burned out shell. after the fire in march of last year, plans to renovate walnut street were put on hold. not anymore. >> now we have a plan in place, coming forward. all of those businesses along walnut are going to pick up 50% $4.5 million project.

cynthia: chris hensley is excited, saying emc insurance took the lead for businesses to privately fund half of the project. >> it will be removal of existing walnut as we know it. there will be traffic, parking, some beautification. cynthia: phase one will replace the dark and outdated streetscape with new landscaping and lighting. the city will remove the bus shelters and resurface the roadway to create a unique pedestrian and bike friendly district that will look similar to this. >> this is the first step. i think it is no different if you look at what we did with the east village. we did a hardscape, did everything on the streetscape. cynthia: they then hope to attract new trendy shops and restaurants all along here. >> get that real city feel, that would be good. >> i don't want to walk all the way to the east village to do some shopping. downtown used to be a hotspot for that, i think it should be again, especially since we got all this residential coming in
