gentlemen standing back there don't have to go home and tell their wives, or their kids or their husbands when the next job is going to come. ryan: by the end of this afternoon, more than 200 people spoke out for and against this controversial pipeline project. it is now in the hands of the three-member iowa utilities board. kevin: a total of 280 people signed up to speak at today's open hearing on the bakken oil pipeline. 134 were listed in favor of the project. 80 of them list an out of state address. 143 were opposed to the pipeline. only 3 say they're from outside iowa. 3 of the speakers saying they were neutral. the public comment portion of the pipeline hearing is over. but the evidentiary hearings continue until early next month. with the last hearing scheduled for thursday, december 3. with the board's final decision

expected sometime in late december or early january. kevin: we asked our kcci.com users if the pipeline should be built in iowa. so far, the vote in our unscientific poll is pretty strong against the pipeline. stacey: the national weather service now says 5 tornadoes touched down in iowa. confirmed touchdowns in avoca, guthrie county, knoxe, barnes city, and melrose. kcci's rose heavy is in melrose tonight. how powerful was the tornado there? rose: here, south of melrose in monroe county, national weather -- you can see that an ef-2 tornado came in behind me. they are just happy no one was hurt. homeowners and family focused on cleanup today. national weather service officials say gusts of 100 miles per hour blasted through the border between monroe and appanoose counties. they say about a 5 mile stretch was impacted the worst, with several homes and equipment sheds torn apart.

families took for cover once they heard the winds coming their way. it only lasted several minutes but their homes became , unrecognizable. >> i looked up the basement stairs and i could see a lot of daylight coming through the kitchen because there was no roof anymore. rose: many families are thinking their alert systems because they were saying they were able to take cover just in time. stacey: in the des moines metro, all but a few homes are still without power. but kcci's jason rantala shows us from des moines south west side, there's still plenty of clean-up work to be done. jason r: the winds were so strong last night, they tackled -- they toppled a tree right into what once was a garage. a homeowner says she's lucky it didn't go right into her children's bedroom. workers are left to remove massive pieces of tree from this avenue. after wednesday's storms caused it to topple.

saturday, 62. sunday, a high of 60 degrees. kevin: a psychologist in the ngor makuey murder trial says makuey did not know the difference between right and wrong when he beat to death his 97-year-old neighbor. dr. luis rosell says makuey claims he's been hallucinating for years, and that voices in his head give him instructions on what to do. rosell diagnosed makuey with having some symptoms of schizophrenia. makuey says a green man with 4 arms had taken control of his body and made him beat the andersons. with that. >> this type of visual hallucination is unheard of. it is totally scientifically preposterous. kevin: a prosecution missed basic requirements during his assessment of makuey and the results should be considered invalid. stacey: new information in the death investigation of an iowa state student whose

body was found near railroad tracks on the northeast side of campus. iowa state police identified the victim as 21-year-old dane schussler. his body was spotted by railroad workers monday night. isu police say it looks as though schussler was hit by the train, but a final determination on his cause of death will be made by the state medical examiner. more than 200 residents who call mercy park apartments home must now find a new place to live. mercy park is located on the east side of the mercy medical center campus. mercy says it plans to tear down the complex next year. that will make room for a new inpatient facility. the apartment will be closed next september. the hospital says it's working to find mercy park residents a new place to live. kevin: it's football under the dome. we're at the uni-dome in cedar falls with a look at how central iowa 8-man teams did. first, it was jeb bush. now, donald trump.
