republicans push them. "you'll have to ask the gop if they'll present some of those issues... i don't know what we'll do when we get to that bridge we will cross it." "just because some republicans are in favor of certain things doesn't mean every other republican is too. we'll just have to see." this is the first time in 20 years that republicans will control the state house and senate and hold the governor's office. legislature, the iowa house will welcome its youngest member - a 23 year old. skyler wheeler. he moved to the sioux city area three years ago from washington state. and after yesterday's election, he will be be the next republican in district four. republicans outnumber democrats 10 to 1 in that district. wheeler says he's extremely happy with how it all played out. kes office in january. reporting on capitol hill i'm kellie meyer. linn county voters decided to cut the size of the board of supervisors. the board held its regular meeting today in cedar rapids. in 2006, linn county voters expanded the board from three to five members. but they approved a ballot measure yesterday cut the board back down to three. kevin kula who started circulating a petition for the change a year ago said fewer supervisors affect people living in rural areas. "the reason we went to 5 supervisors was to increase and improve rural representation on the board of supervisors. um, i'm not sure i can see a way to split the county into thirds. " the board will officially go back to three supervisors in january 2018. newly elected president donald trump

considered him a likely loser. the latest loras college poll showed hillary clinton and donald trump just one percent apart in iowa. three days before the elections clinton had 44 percent, while 43 percent supported trump. several other states showed clinton ahead in polls - only to see trump win on election night. so how did so many polls miss it? kcrg tv-9's dubuque bureau chief katie wiedemann talked with the director of the loras poll to get that answer. katie? they say it's important to remember polls capture a snap shot of situation. not always the whole picture. directors say, in this election, the state polls didn't match up with what voters actually ended up doing. here's why... dr. chris budzisz, director of the loras poll says there was a big divide between early voters and election day voters. and

and the actual election results. he says, people who voted early made their decision,.... early. those people tended to vote for clinton. but people who were undecided up until the last minute and voted on election day, tended to vote for trump. budzisz says another reason is difficulty in polling certain segments of the population in states like wisconsin. "the largest polling error in this election cycle is happening in states where there are large amounts of white non college graduates and that's true is states like wisconsin, mi budzisz says many polls missed those white, non- college educated voters... and that's who showed up in droves on election day to support trump. he also says this election might inspire change in future polling methods. he says pollsters could start polling online or via text message rather than

an accident involving a combine today. it happened late this morning near mechanicsvill e, close to the intersection of franklin avenue and highway 30. the cedar county sheriff's office says the man is now at university of iowa hospitals. we don't know his condition. the iowa national guard today gave a flight demonstration of its latest tool. a radio controlled drone. the drone was shown off today at the boone municipal airport. once controlled by radio frequencies through ground control stations. the iowa air national guard says this drone will provide real time reconnaissance, help with communications and help find targets. the guard also flies a larger drone very similar to this version. a small business in dubuque is enjoying a lot of success dealing with java. we take you inside verena street coffee to see how it's grown in just a few years.

a dubuque coffee company says demand is helping it expand the business. this week verena street coffee is moving into a

park. owners of verena street coffee roast and package several flavored coffees. the company started in 2010 in a small production house with just three employees. it's now going into this 34- thousand square foot facility with 15 people working there. "we've come along way every year we get more and more exposure. but there's just a ton of coffee business out there and we've barely scratched the surface so far. " the shelves of about 800 stores across the country. the iowa department of transportation opened a new park and ride location in cedar rapids. the lot is located near kirkwood boulevard and 66th avenue southwest. that's near kirkwood community college and also sits along a cedar rapids bus route. drivers will find a sheltered bus stop and lighting. it's free for anyone to use. people can use the lots to park their cars and join a car pool or hop on the

transportation says the lot has multiple benefits. "one of the things we can do is get less cars on the road. so really commuter lots like this help people get together. secondary benefits are the ones that you said. ya know, it helps with air quality if we just have one car going and not two cars." people can download the d-o-t's app called, "iowa ride share" to find lot locations and rides across the state. a dubuque student- athlete is moving to the west coast. the senior will be playing volleyball for ucla. we'll that program in a few minutes.

day two of the state volleyball tournament and josh has highlights from the class 2a and 3a quater-finals. first up in class 3a, top- ranked union facing osage. heater on set point. she had 21 kills and the knights win 25-19 2nd set, cierra nolan on the serve and she collects the ace. union wins set two 25-20 and in the third set, match point. peyton parker delivers a fastball for one of her 17 kills as union wins in three sets to advance to the semis "it's definitely a relief knowing that we get that first win out of the way. that's always seems to be the toughest with teams." in the adjacent court, dike-new hartford
