that are trying to achieve different goals in their fitness life is how do i stay motivated? i start off really, really strong and then something happens, life happens, right? and i tend to get off track. so my advice to you is to set, what we call, smart goals. what smart stands for is they're specific, they're measurable, they're attainable, they're relevant and they're time driven. so let's
11:51 am
the best when i've got something i'm working towards. for example, maybe i'm looking to participate in a 5k, or a half marathon, or a something of that nature that's an athletic event. it's a very specific thing that i'm looking to accomplish, say the 5k. it's a measurable situation. so i've got this number of weeks to prepare for whenever i need to achieve that specific goal. it's very, very attainable. i know i can do it if i know i can do it. a lot of times i use a mantra "what the mind believes the body can achieve". so if you know you have the skill set and you've drawn out the plan that is very specific and time driven, then you know you can attain that specific goal. it's relevant to you. we talked about "r" being relevant. if you don't want to run a 5k, don't sign up for a 5k. nothing wrong with that. maybe
11:52 am
want to leave my house and i want to be able to walk around the block. or maybe i want to be able to spend more time being active with my kids or my grandkids out at the park. that is appropriate as well. it just needs to be something that means something to you, if you're excited about it, then the work that you need to do to accomplish that goal doesn't seem like work at all. that's what it's all about. lastly,it something that's a long- term goal - let's go back to the example i used, say the 5k or the half marathon. that's not something that's going to be accomplished in 2-3 weeks, for me at least. so i need to be able to break that large goal into small little segments. so for example, maybe i'm going to partake in a program called "couch to 5k". that is a specific running program that
