>> here's a live look at downtown san francisco. the fog is still out there but it's more widespread. we'll talk go how it will affect your morning commute or your flight from sfo. >> you can definitely see the shoulder-huggers making their way to the toll plaza. it's clear here but there is a fog advisory for the san mateo bridge and dumbarton bridge this morning. >> good morning. i'm amy holyfield live in walnut creek where this city's popularity is a problem. what the city council might end up doing about it am could go up. >> 5 a.m. on this foggy tuesday morning. foggy is a word by lexicon and won't be leaving for a while. i'm eric thomas. >> i'm kristen sze. let's talk to mike where the fog is. >> it's more widespread the way to say it but it is dangerous when you do run into it because you can go from an unlimited visibility and not be able to

see a couple hundred feet in front of your car. it can be anywhere in our valleys inland along the bay shore and until at least 11:00 this morning. let's take a look where the foggiest areas are, san jose, hayward, oakland, san francisco international, napa and santa rosa. notice the east bay valley is not nearly as foggy as yesterday. these a good sign the tulie fog is going to stay in the central valley and this should burn off faster that will lead to warmer weather today. let's find out if it's affecting the commute. here's frances. >> so far it isn't. it's been pretty quiet out there. if you were lucky enough to sleep in yesterday, it was a bit foggier. here's a live shot of the san mateo bridge. that's westbound traffic on the right. you can see headlights eastbound across the span. as you make your drive across the bridge on to the peninsula, 101 has been very foggy as well. here's a live shot in millbrae. northbound traffic still moving well into san francisco. our very foggy shot was also in the south bay for the 280 and 17

interchange but the fog advisory has been cleared for other bay area bridges. >> the walnut creek city council will consider a plan to crack down on alcohol-related violence. it could mean stricter rules for visitors and harsher punishment for troublemakers. a stunning video that shows why something is being done. >> these quiet streets sometimes turn rowdy. recently a drunk woman spit in a police officer's eye. people sometimes pee in the outdoor planters here in this really nice downtown area and sometimes fights break out. here's some examples of it. the videos sometimes show up on youtube.com. one night in october was especially bad. several fights broke out here on main street and police say they don't have enough officers to handle the issue and something's gotta give. a committee has been studying the issue and looking into the possibility of staggering the

alcohol cutoff times and closing times. of course, that raises the issue of fairness. all the businesses want to be able to make the same amount of money and spend the same amount of hours to do so. police like the idea. they say it's tough when all the bars empty out at the same time. so lots of recommendations to ponder and debate. they're all going to come up at the city council meeting tonight at 7:00. live in walnut creek, amy holyfield, abc 7 news. >> all right, amy. thank you very much. it's 5:03 now. a vote tonight could add an expensive new perk to the city of berkeley's benefit package while many other cities are cutting back. the city council will decide whether to set aside $20,000 per year to pay for sex change surgery for city workers. the money would be handed out on a first come first serve basis and the employee would have to live as a member of the opposite sex for at least a year. the city's two healthcare plans currently do not cover the surgery. >> san jose police are trying to

figure out how a man ended up inside a home that was fumigated. an exterminator had done the house and it was off limits because of the chemicals used. they found the man's body inside. detectives believe he was overcome by toxic fumes. nobody is missing. it appeared the victim has no ties to the family. >> former lab technician deborah madden is set to appear in a san mateo county courtroom today on a separate drug possession charge. the state attorney general's office announced last month it would not file criminal charges against madden on accusations she stole small amounts of cocaine from the san francisco lab. the a. g.'s office concluded there was just not enough evidence to charge her. more than 600 drug cases were dismissed in the fallout from that scandal. the felony drug possession charge she's facing today involves a small amount of cocaine that detectives say they found in her san mateo home.

>> the oakland raiders are expected to announce today hue jackson is taking over sas head coach. he was brought in last season to turn the raider's offense around. finished 4th in the afc and 6th in the offense. he will replace tom cable whose contract wasn't renewed. hue jackson will be the raiders' sixth head coach since 2002. >> time for a look at the forecast. tell you it's foggy once again but can we tell you where? >> mike can tell you where. mike? >> absolutely. very foggy. some areas like the south bay and also as we head into the north bay and along the peninsula in parts. let's start with our temperatures. it's 54 half moon bay. we have mid to upper 40s for the rest of us. as far as the 24 hour temperature change, because of the fog isn't as widespread, it will be easier to get rid of. we're going to see temperatures jump anywhere from 1 degree in

san francisco and 12 in concord. check out cloverdale. 71 degrees. on the other ends we have looks like richmond, vallejo and also fairfield around 60 along with antioch. the rest of us low to mid-60s. maybe even hit the upper 60s around santa rosa. as far as down around the monterey bay, we'll have temperatures today maybe not quite as warm as yesterday because of the wind shift but still very pleasant with 62 monterey, mid to upper 60s for the rest of the bay and as you head inland. here's your accu-weather 7-day forecast, a cold front, a dry, weak cold front comes through but the winds are fast enough that we won't wake up to fog tomorrow and our temperatures will drop just a little tomorrow afternoon. once that passes, high pressure moves in. that calms our sky and brings sunshine back and even warmer weather for thursday and friday. let's talk to frances, find out how the morning commute's going. >> mike, good morning. it's going pretty well. you saw how foggy it was across the san mateo and 101 on the

colder yesterday, some areas only 50 because of the fog. looking forward to some warmer weather today. you can look from ballmer peak this morning. you can see downtown san francisco. you can see the bay bridge, areas you could not see from the same vantage point yesterday. but there still is a lot of fog out there and very dense when you run into it. just because we're showing you one area that does not have it doesn't mean you won't run into some during your morning commute. it's mild this morning, mid to upper 40s, close to seasonal averages. 57 half moon bay. that's a little out of the ordinary. 53 monterey, same thing. otherwise low to mid-40s from salinas, watsonville, fog there. our first highlight, it fades faster today and that means warmer afternoons. it will be cooler tonight because we'll have less fog and the dry forecast hangs around all the way through the end which would -- today's tuesday so it would be next monday. it looks like the warmest

weather thursday and friday. we'll have a bit of a roller-coaster temperaturewise as dry cold front roll through. one degree warmer in san francisco, 2 santa rosa along with oakland. san jose 6 and look at that, concord 12 degrees warmer today. 9 hours 54 minutes and 54 seconds of sunshine. that's about one minute and 28 seconds more than yesterday. low to mid-60s. not only 65 san jose but also los gatos. over the peninsula hazy sunshine once again and no spare the air by the way. didn't get extended. low to mid-60s here, too. upper 50s to low 60s along the coast. downtown south san francisco low to mid-60s. low to mid-60s through the north bay valleys. warmer santa rosa, ukiah, cloverdale, upper 60s to low 70s and slightly cooler at your beaches, upper 50s. east bay shore, how about low to mid-60s for you. out of the 50s everywhere in the east bay valleys. low to mid-60s here with concord 65, danville 66 along with

livermore, some of the warmer spots. antioch and brentwood 60 degrees. 60 caramel, 62 here in monterey. mid to upper 60s the rest of the monterey bay and also your inland valleys. a little cooler with low 40s inland, around the bay shore and out to the coast. looking at the jet stream. a little kink developing up here that's going to bring a cold front in. but because it's at the top of this ridge, it spent all its energy climbing there and these why the dry pattern will continue even with that cold front coming through. it stirs up the atmosphere. the breezes tomorrow keep the fog from forming and also drop our temperatures a few degrees in the afternoon. when the high pressure comes back, it calms our sky and we'll have warmer weather for thursday and friday and dry all the way through monday. good morning, frances. >> good morning, mike. some of our foggiest camera shots around the bay area. 101 millbrae as you make your way northbound for these headlights. no major trouble though heading into san francisco.

king jr. holiday. the fatal shooting took place around 4:00 in the afternoon. a man waiting for a 80th avenue and international was shot. a man was wounded 14th avenue and east 27th street. just before 8 p.m. two more people were wounded on east 16th street north of seminary avenue. finally around 11:00 last night a woman walking along international boulevard was shot in the leg after two men tried to kidnap her but failed. police don't believe the shootings with linked and they've not yet made any arrests in any of the cases. >> contra costa county sheriff investigators are looking for a theft in lafayette. someone broke into a mausoleum and stole a brass urn containing the remains of thomas gonzalez jr. he was president of an e-commerce company during the

dot-com boom. five people are looking for a new place to stay this morning after fire at an apartment building in san mateo overnight. this fire started around 2:00 this morning on south grant street. firefighters say it started when a couch caught fire because it was up against a wall heater. everybody got out safely but a cat had to be rescued. no word when the residents will be allowed to return. >> wall street will be reacting for the first time this morning to the latest medical leave that apple ceo's steve jobs is taking when trading resumes following the holiday weekend. apple is also due to report its quarterly earnings this afternoon. jobs told the company yesterday he's taking medical leave for the third time to focus on his health. he didn't give any time frame for the return which is causing worry and speculation. >> everyone is a little nervous about what happens when he finally steps away and the fact he's for the third time now since 2004 having to take a

medical leave of absence. got people nervous. >> jobs had suffered from pancreatic cancer and had a liver transplant in 2009. apple shares are down more than 4% in pre-market trading this morning. they fell 8% in germany yesterday but rebounded this morning and are now up more than 2%. >> federal investigators examining the tucson shootings now say they've collected reams of video that captured the incident and clearly shows who did the shooting. sources tell the l.a. times the best evidence comes from security cameras posted in the safeway parking lot. the source say they clearly show the gunman shooting his victims one by one beginning with congresswoman giffords and federal judge john rolls next to her. >> giffords' husband, while congresswoman hasn't been able to speak a word since the shooting she is communicating

concord and livermore and also the coast. 57 half moon bay. look how much warmer we are today, anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees warmer with low to mid-60s in most neighborhoods. we'll hit the upper 60s around santa rosa and even 71 degrees in cloverdale. let's look at your 7-day forecast, a cold front will bring breezes that wipe away the fog. nothing like that tomorrow morning and high pressure returns and keeps us dry thursday through monday. here's frances. good morning. >> all right, mike. thick fog still across the san mateo bridge. our cameras pretty much socked in right now. so you can almost not make out those taillights heading westbound on the right. let me go to the map and show you, we've got the fog advisory for the san mateo bridge, the dumbarton bridge and north 101 at marsh. there's been an accident where a car spun out. may be difficult to see but they have been running occasionally a traffic break to slow people down. no other major problems

>> 5:39. if muni is looking for a new slowing began, better late than never may fit the bill. a report presented to the san francisco municipal transportation authority today says just 72% of muni vehicles showed up on time in july, august and september of last year. it's down 3% from the start of 2010 and well below the 85% standard mandated by voters when they passed proposition e in 1999. >> some beach front homeowners in aththose fear storms might wipe them out. the properties are above rio del mar beach where stand builds up and changes course and cuts away the cliff. the solution isn't just as simple as digging out sand at the beach. lee glasser explains. >> we think it's probably about five years ago, yeah. new year's eve as a matter of fact. >> five years ago vivian lost 3 feet of backyard when water from

atos creek began eating away from the bluff her home sits on. she's lost 20 feet of beach front property due to the erosion in the past 20 years. each time there's a storm, the creek backs up and more of her yard is gone. >> it will underminus. that's exactly what it's doing. we don't know every year how much more it's going to undermine the sand and the rocks. >> the creek normally flows right into the pacific but on occasion winter storm pushes sand in the way and blocks the natural flow. water then forms a stream right in front of the bluff. you can see where the beach front property has been washed away leaving a 9 foot drop-off along the edge. >> normally it stays out further but this year it got right up against this rock wall. >> this homeowner says residents are trying to work with the state and county to get the sand removed but so far no luck. the california department of fish and games has also been quoted as saying dredging the
