left in the car when mom went inside the mall to buy the shoes. good morning i'm kristen sze. cheryl jennings is off. police had to respond en masse to several bay area malls selling the jordans. terry mcsweeney is in richmond where gunfire rang out >> reporter: all because of that single gunshot accidentally fired you cannot buy air jordan 11 concords now. the shoe stores are open you just cannot buy these shoes. one shop i talked to says again fire who cares i want my jordans. >> they said there's a shooting going on. shooting was really nothing just a little firecracker. the police they decided to shut it down. obviously, they didn't have the situation controlled. >> reporter: >> reporter: police say up to 2,000 people were out here this morning. -- some had been here all night. the stores opened at 6 a.m.

victorian, apartment building and single family home. investigator are searching for the cause and treating the area as a crime scene. amy hollyfield is live in the western addition with the latest. >> reporter: i just spoke with the red cross i have new numbers. 38 adults were displaced by this fire three children and some pets. the red cross helped put up 16 people in hotels they are also helping with food and clothing. a lot of the victims have surveyed the damage they seem so upset when they get here. it has been a very emotional morning. seth's belongings now fit into a couple of trash bags yesterday's fire destroyed almost everything he owned and he did not have renter's insurance. >> a part of you is gone. >> reporter: firefighters allowed him back in this morning. the damage was worse than he expected. >> i'm on the first floor i thought it was just going to be water damage. everything is just trashed.

it is still there but it is no good. >> reporter: the fire destroyed 32 homes inside three buildings. residents are dealing with shock and sadness this morning. scott lived here for 20 years. >> i guess sometimes it takes a fire to get you out of your nest and move on. >> reporter: the one thing victims have is community support. the red cross and the city is helping provide shelter. the homeowners of this 4,000 square foot victorian offered to let some victims stay with them. >> why not if you have the space which is a rarity in town. and it was right in the neighborhood. >> reporter: firefighters are walking through the burned out buildings looking for a cause. the fire had a head start by the time they arrived. they are wondering if that is because of wind and wood structures or something else. >> was it because of something out of the ordinary or just start lining up all of those factors? our arson investigators are on the scene trying to piece that

together. >> reporter: they to did secure the scene and treat it as a crime scene until they know what happened. firefighters think they will be here until late this afternoon. they expect golden gate and pierce to be closed throughout the day. the fires have moved by their work here they have found several toys and christmas gifts in the wreckage. they've decided to donate to the cause. the fire department has given 100 toys to the families. amy hollyfield abc7 news. i'm sure they will be happy to get a little help. state health officials have reported a first flu-related death of the season victim is a man in his late 30s. officials say flu activity in the state remains low. they are urging everyone to get vaccinated. the flu season peaks between january and march. >> several more national retails tailers have joined wal-mart in pulling baby formula from their shelf after
