he brought paper targets like these to the shooting range showing a faceless figure in a hoody carrying skittles and iced tea, clearly resembling trayvon martin. abc's matt gutman has the latest. >> reporter: a cape canaveral police officer has been fired for bringing these shooting targets bearing the likeness of trayvon martin to a weapons exercise in central florida. >> he had a target in the back of his car. and offered it to two other officers with the port. >> reporter: according to the mortified ceo of the port authority, john walsh, the fellow cops disgusted with the choice of targets reported sergeant ron king. king admits having the trayvon martin targets with the faceless figure in the hoody. even with the skittles and iced tea. and offered this apology. >> i would look to start my statement by apologizing to the family of trayvon martin for being used ash a pawn in somebody's political agenda. >> reporter: in the six-minute

back back to our top story. the young men taking charge in north korea, kim jong-un, the new supreme ruler over two years ago. >> abc's bob woodruff was in pyongyang when the world got a first glimpse of him. here from the abc news vault, world news, october 11, 2010. >> reporter: this was the biggest military parade in the history of north korea, an elaborate display of hardware, tens of thousands of troops, goose stepping with remarkable precision. clearly they have been planning this for a while. i have been to the square several times before, but never

have journalists ever been able to stand so close. they have the navy. the army. the air force. infantry, artillery, medics, doctors, nurses and of course, tanks. now it is completely silent. right up there, kim jong-il and his son, kim jong-un. going to come out and watch. the goal of all of this was purely political. introduction of the heir apparent to the kim family dynasty, kim jong-un. out and about in the capital, no one seemed to know much about kim jong-un. do you know what his age is? what he is like? it seemed the young general was everywhere we went from stadiums to the public squares, but never uttered a word.

we should point out when kim jong-il's father named him as heir apparent in 1980 it wasn't until 12 years later that he first spoke in public. so for those anxious to hear from the next leader of the kingdom, sit tight, it could be a while. you should know north korea has long turned its lights off at night because of a shortage of electricity. if you looked at the satellite view you can see the lights are elsewhere. compare this trip to the last one i was on. there is actually more lights out at night than before. maybe something is changing. also remember, three days ago there were almost no pictures of kim jong-un, heir apparent. but here in the leading paper, you can see him right there. two seats away from his father. never seen this before. so over the next few days, certainly months, years. he is going to be getting a lot more attention. >> some thing don't change, right. still don't know a lot. most information from defectors. we don't know how old, 28-31. >> one thing we know about him. he is a basketball fan. as we know dennis rodman had a trip to north korea recently. he was received as a hero.

abc's bob woodruff has the latest from seoul. >> reporter: for secretary of state john kerry, japan is the last and arguably most tense leg of his asian tour. while he spent some of his time visiting public sites, the bulk of the day was about solving the crisis with north korea. >> the biggest priority is a peaceful resolution to the issues of north korea. >> reporter: kerry's japan visit puts him within the range of a threatened missile test from north korea. a launch that could come at any moment as the north marks its biggest holiday, the birth of founder, kim il-sung. the missile, known as musudan, has never been fired before and the likely trajectory would send it over japan toward the pacific ocean. the u.s. put patriot missile interceptors in key positions and has ships and satellite surveillance across the region just in case. perhaps the most important meeting of the weekend was in china. north korea's only real ally.

a snowshoeing trek. one woman dead. one man missing and presumed dead. abc's clayton sandel has the latest on the terrifying ordeal in the cascade mountains. >> reporter: the survivors say it came without warning. >> i thought i am dying. but i could hardly breathe because the snow continuously covered my body and then my face. >> reporter: chris tsong was trapped when a sudden avalanche swept over his group saturday east of seattle. a women hiking with the group was buried alive under five feet of snow. rescuers desperately tried to save her, she later died. nearby -- >> the avalanche from this point from what he is describing is 30 feet wide, 8 feet deep, and a quarter mile long. >> reporter: another avalanche overpowered three men. two dug themselves out. their 60-year-old friend is still missing. >> they literally went 1,279 feet in the avalanche at speeds up to 53 miles an hour.
