police say they are looking at this as an attempted murder and suicide. yesterday there was an altercation between creigh deeds and his son. investigators are piecing together evidence to determine the sequence of events and the motive. virginia state police responded to a 911 call from senator creigh deeds. >> senator deeds and his son had an altercation at the deeds' residence. deeds was stabbed multiple times about the head and torso. >> reporter: deeds is currently in fair condition at the university of virginia medical center in charlottesville. his 24-year-old son gus was pronounced dead at the scene from what officials say was an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. first responders attempted to treat gus deeds but were unsuccessful. according to the "richmond times-dispatch," he underwent a mental health evaluation but released because there no psychiatric bed available in the area. the younger deeds withdrew from college in virginia last month.

she says the new pet is super cuddly and needs to be with someone at all times. >> theo walks over and just plops down on top of him, as close as he can get to him. it is really sweet. >> she captured images of them and posted them on her mommy blog and instagram and vine. the photos went viral. they have since been featured on national media. international news organizations have picked up the story. >> i think part of the attraction that is drawing people to these photos is the innocence that they both exude. it's both uplifting and reassuring and it's everything that i think the world needs. >> reporter: the photos have captured the attention of literary agents, as well. jessica is now working with one, and the plan is to release a book about theo and bo sometime next winter. she says part of the proceeds will go to the spca. lillian kim, abc 7 news. >> crazy cute.
