here's abc chief white house correspondent, jonathon karl. >> reporter: the president likes to flex his muscles on the national stage. >> we will not accept russia -- >> reporter: but it is this video that's been seen everywhere here. president obama in a hotel gym in warsaw exercising his actual muscles. doing lunges, flies, working his biceps and doing some cardio. along with the president, there appear to be hotel guests working out as well. one of them apparently shooting this video, briefly including a half-selfie. the she secret service tonight says there was no security breach because everybody in the hotel was screened and she secret service agents were always nearby. they keep the president safe but it is not their job to confiscate cell phones or cameras. they point out the president makes unscheduled stops sometimes out to lunch or just last month he was on the

>> and i'm john muller. we are going to start this half hour with breaking news out of southern california. the crash of a military jet in to a residential neighborhood. >> it happened in the town of imperial, population about 15,000. 90 miles east of san diego near the mexican border. abc's mary bruce has the latest. >> reporter: a devastating crash. a military jet slamming in to a residential area in southern california, creating a massive plume of smoke. >> i spoke to some neighbors who were on the scene at the time and they described it as what felt like an earthquake. when the crash occurred, it shook the walls of their homes. >> it was a very deafening noise. and i look and the plane's just coming straight and it completely nose-dived down. and i kind of went into panic mode. >> reporter: military confirming a harrier jet from marine corps air station yuma crashing in imperial, california. >> what about the guys supposed to be in there? >> reporter: the pilot ejected safely and was transported to a local hospital. authorities rushed to the scene and the marine corps vowed to

investigate. this crash coming just weeks after the harrier jet from another station crashed in phoenix. that plane went down in an unpopulated area. mary bruce, abc news, los angeles. another breaking story we are following. three police officers shot dead and the hunt is on for a suspect. canadian authorities tweeted this picture of the suspect dressed in camouflage and carrying two guns. such violence is rare in canada, particularly on its east coast where the attack took place. the white house is still doing damage control over the controversial deal to release bowe bergdahl. a brief video was released by the taliban suggesting he was in deteriorating health requiring quick action, but the senators didn't appear to buy it. >> don't think from a health standpoint there was any issue that dictated the release of these five nasty killers, in exchange for bergdahl. >> that is not the person that was released here. he was not in that type of a

dire situation when he was released. >> the release of the five deneighbor kndena deneighbd detainees reignited opposition to president obama's goal of closing guantanamo. there are other americans held by the taliban. worried family members are hoping for a deal to bring them home. here's abc's brian ross. >> reporter: their plight had received little attention until two with videos were made public by the family of the missing woman. caitlin coleman seen next to her canadian husband joshua boyle. >> i'm a prisoner of the taliban. my husband is right here. >> coleman was pregnant when the couple went missing two years ago in afghanistan as they hiked through the region controlled by the taliban. in the video, which her family received last year, she talks of the child she apparently gave birth to in taliban captivity. >> i would ask that my family and my government do everything that they can to bring my husband, child and i to safety and freedom. >> we have not heard from them. we have not heard anything

russian president putin was uninvited from the g-7 summit in belgium but he was still very much a presence. the leaders of all seven nations issued a statement urging russia to recognize the results of ukraine's most recent elections. in moscow putin seemed to brush off being snubbed and declared he was still open to dialogue on ukraine. that dialogue could happen tomorrow when president obama and president putin attend d-day anniversary ceremonies. it wasn't the usual opening of a british parliamentary session. the speech by britain's queen elizabeth was briefly interrupted. she was just about done with her ten-minute address to lawmakers yesterday when a 12-year-old page boy who insisted on carrying her robe fainted. he hit the floor, picked up by a microphone. >> a comprehensive nuclear agreement with iran. >> only the slightest pause, the queen continued. the boy is fine. also of note, yesterday the queen's coach that took a decade to build and cost $5 million

from fragments of british historic sites are built into the panels. general motors is releasing much-anticipated findings on the investigation in to the delay of a huge recall. ceo mary barra is expected to explain why it took gm more than ten years to recall nearly 3 million cars with faulty ignition switches. the company says the problem caused at least 13 deaths. lawyers suing gm say at least 60 people died. another mega merger is in the works in the telecommunications industry. word of a $32 billion deal between sprint and t-mobile. the preliminary deal is expected to be announced this summer. if they get approval, the combined company would be in a strong third place with almost as many customers as verizon and at&t. for subscribers, a merger could mean lower prices and better coverage. in the health headlines this morning, a new warning about the dangers of marijuana use in teens. researchers at the national institute for drug abuse showed

marijuana use in adolescence leads to problems with short term memory and lower iq and researchers point to studies showing that pot is addictive. but addiction experts counter that. marijuana is much less addictive than tobacco or alcohol. here's a look at the nation's weather. a narrow band of severe thunderstorms extends from colorado clear out to the coast of the carolinas and up into northern michigan. showers will also stretch from new england into virginia. otherwise the rest of nation will be clear. most of the northern half of the country in the 70s. temperatures will be summer-like in the 80s in the south. it will heat up in the 90s in the southwest. 108 degrees for phoenix. they are expecting clear skies in iowa today. good news for the thousands of people attending the world pork expo. >> we looked this up and on today's official schedule is what is called the big grill. we suspect this is what the big grill looks like. all of those people have to eat, right? >> seriously, though, the three-day trade show is big business.

military is focused on his health and reintegration and he will have the full support of the pentagon. john and linzie? >> karen, thank you. now to the breaking news out of southern california. the crash of a military jet in to a resident, neighborhood. the u.s. marines harrier jet from the yuma, arizona, air base went down in the town of imperial setting two homes on fire. the pilot ejected and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. there are no reports of injuries on the ground or any word on what caused the jet to crash. an intense manhunt underway in the eastern part of canada after three police officers were gunned down. police in new brunswick tweeted an image of a suspect wearing military camouflage and wielding two guns. they believe he's still in the area and residents were urged to stay inside and lock their doors. gun violence is extremely rare in canada. a man is in custody in new york in connection with the stabbing death of a little boy in an elevator. daniel st. hubert was arrested last night after the police appealed to the public for help in tracking him down. st. hubert attacked two children in an elevator of a public

housing project. the 6-year-old boy died and a 7-year-old girl was critically injured. 17-year-old connecticut high school student charged in the fatal stabbing of a fellow student has pleaded not guilty to murder. christopher plaskon is charged with killing 16-year-old honor student maren sanchez in the hallway of their school just hours before the school's junior prom. police are investigating whether it was triggered by sanchez's refusal to be plaskon's date for the prom. lawyers for o.j. simpson have filed an appeal of the robbery conviction that led to his current prison stay. they are asking the nevada supreme court to grant simpson a new trial. they claim simpson was misled by his former lawyer who represented the nfl hall of--famer in his kidnapping and robbery case. no indication of when nevada's highest court will rule on the request. word of another mega merger. the company's third and fourth largest wireless carriers looking to join forces. sprint and t-mobile seem to be closing in on the $32 billion deal. josh haskell tells us where

things stand. >> reporter: it's been rumored for months and now appears a deal is in place for sprint to buy t-mobile. an estimated $32 billion merger that could make the wireless industry more competitive. >> you have at&t and verizon up on top, almost the same number of customers and once you combine sprint and t-mobile, they are going to have almost as many customers. they will be a powerful number three competitor. >> reporter: according to the research strategy analytics in the third quarter of 2013, verizon had 119 million subscribers, at&t, 109 million. then sprint with 54 million and t-mobile at 45 million. although a merger between at&t and t-mobile was blocked in 2011, kagan says the marketplace today is very different. with talks of a comcast/time warner merger and at&t/directv merger. >> today, with all of the mergers on the table, i have a feeling the regulators are going to approve all of them. and that's going to transform the industry.

good morning. i'm linzie janis. >> i'm john muller. we begin with breaking news. a story we have been following out of southern california. a crash of a military jet in to a residential neighborhood. >> it happened in the extreme southeast corner of the state in the desert town of imperial near the mexican border. the u.s. marine harrier jet crashed and exploded setting two homes on fire. >> the pilot managed to eject before the crash. he was taken to the hospital. no word of immediate injuries or casualties on the ground. residents describe the impact as feeling like a bomb or earthquake. >> i spoke with some neighbors who were on the scene at the time, and they described it as what felt like a earthquake, when the crash occurred shook the walls of their homes and one gentleman i spoke to said he had gone in to the home while there were still flames on the vehicle inside the garage and helped to pull out some residents too shocked to know what to do in terms of escaping their home.

>> there's no word on what caused the jet to crash. the marine corps spokesman said the plane was from the marine corps air station in yuma, arizona. this was the second crash in a month of a harrier jet from the yuma air base. we will have more in the next half hour. intelligence experts have been pouring over the newly released video from the taliban that shows the handover of bowe bergdahl. martha raddatz takes us through the tape. >> reporter: late in the afternoon, deep in the valley, bowe bergdahl, clean shaven, blinking as if emerging from the dark for the first time. taliban fighters, high in the hills, able to shoot below. the white flag on a freshly cut branch a sign for the americans. translating the conversation from pashto, the language of the taliban. a fighter says to bergdahl, don't come back to afghanistan. you will not make it out alive next time. then surveillance aircraft appears, followed by two helicopters.

three americans emerge. bergdahl, carrying a bag is escorted toward them. his back quickly patted, making sure he has not been turned in to a human bomb. just before boarding, his bag is grabbed and dropped. another patdown and then airborne to freedom. abc news consultant and retired marine corps fighter pilot steve ganyard studied the hidden signs key to the operation. first, the hoods of the taliban cars. >> the u.s. likely said we want you to raise the hoods of the vehicle so it is a sign we have the right area. >> reporter: then the number 41 on the u.s. helicopter, likely a message backed to the taliban the deal is on and that handoff to the americans. >> all three of them are in civilian garb. are they special forces, cia? >> reporter: we see the man in

the center doing the patdown, but watch how straight these men's arms stay, one even shaking hands with his left. clearly their arms kept straight as they concealed something up their sleeve. >> they have obviously got some kind of weapon. so if they need to shoot across each other, they are ready to go in case of ambush. >> reporter: and then bergdahl's blinking eyes, the bright sun, the zus dust or something else. >> if you think of all of the thing that's taliban has done, the executions that they love to film and then you have him, watching being led out to an open area with people filming him and weapons. he can just as easily be thinking i am about to get executed on film for the taliban. >> reporter: but no one knows for sure that blinking may have been because he spent so little time in the sun. what we know is once on the helicopter and realizing he was safe and with americans he broke down in tears. he's still in the hospital in germany, likely to be back in the u.s. next week. martha raddatz, abc news, washington. >> we have heard from another

we are going to start this half hour with breaking news out of southern california. the crash of a military jet in to a residential neighborhood. >> it happened in the town of imperial, population about 15,000. 90 miles east of san diego near the mexican border. abc's mary bruce has the latest. >> reporter: a devastating crash. a military jet slamming in to a residential area in southern california, creating a massive plume of smoke. >> i spoke to some neighbors who were on the scene at the time and they described it as what felt like an earthquake. when the crash occurred, it shook the walls of their homes. >> it was a very deafening noise. and i look and the plane's just coming straight and it completely nose-dived down. and i kind of went into panic mode. >> reporter: military confirming a harrier jet from marine corps air station yuma crashing in imperial, california. >> what about the guys supposed to be in there? >> reporter: the pilot ejected safely and was transported to a local hospital. authorities rushed to the scene and the marine corps vowed to investigate.

this crash coming just weeks after the harrier jet from another station crashed in phoenix. that plane went down in an unpopulated area. mary bruce, abc news, los angeles. another breaking story we are following. three police officers shot dead and the hunt is on for a suspect. canadian authorities tweeted this picture of the suspect dressed in camouflage and carrying two guns. such violence is rare in canada, particularly on its east coast where the attack took place. the white house is still doing damage control over the controversial deal to release bowe bergdahl. behind closed deals top officials show a brief video that was released by the taliban suggesting he was in deteriorating health requiring quick action, but the senators didn't appear to buy it. >> don't think from a health standpoint there was any issue that dictated the release of these five nasty killers, in exchange for bergdahl. >> that is not the person that was released here. he was not in that type of a dire situation when he was

released. >> the release of the five detainees reignited opposition to president obama's goal of closing guantanamo. there are other americans still being held by the taliban. worried family members are hoping for a deal to bring them home. here's abc's brian ross. >> reporter: their plight had received little attention until two videos were made public by the family of the missing woman. caitlin coleman seen next to her canadian husband joshua boyle. >> i'm a prisoner of the taliban. my husband is right here. >> coleman was pregnant when the couple went missing two years ago in afghanistan as they hiked through the region controlled by the taliban. in the video, which her family received last year, she talks of the child she apparently gave birth to in taliban captivity. >> i would ask that my family and my government do everything that they can to bring my husband, child and i to safety and freedom.

trade for their loved ones, too. brian ross, abc news, new york. russian president putin was uninvited from the g-7 summit in belgium but he was still very much a presence. the leaders of all seven nations issued a statement urging russia to recognize the results of ukraine's most recent elections. in moscow putin seemed to brush off being snubbed and declared he was still open to dialogue on ukraine. that dialogue could happen tomorrow when president obama and president putin attend d-day anniversary ceremonies. it wasn't the usual opening of a british parliamentary session. the speech by britain's queen elizabeth was briefly interrupted. she was just about done with her ten-minute address to lawmakers yesterday when a 12-year-old page boy who insisted on carrying her robe fainted. he hit the floor, picked up by a microphone. >> a comprehensive nuclear agreement with iran. >> only the slightest pause, the queen continued. the boy is fine. also of note, yesterday the queen's coach that took a decade to build and cost $5 million from fragments of british

historic sites are built into the panels. general motors is releasing much-anticipated findings on the investigation in to the delay of a huge recall. ceo mary barra is expected to explain why it took gm more than ten years to recall nearly 3 million cars with faulty ignition switches. the company says the problem caused at least 13 deaths. lawyers suing gm say at least 60 people died. another mega merger is in the works in the telecommunications industry. word of a $32 billion deal between sprint and t-mobile. the preliminary deal is expected to be announced this summer. if they get approval, the combined company would be in a strong third place with almost as many customers as verizon and at&t. for subscribers, a merger could mean lower prices and better coverage. in the health headlines this morning, a new warning about the dangers of marijuana use in teens. researchers at the national

institute for drug abuse showed marijuana use in adolescence leads to problems with short term memory and lower iq and researchers point to studies showing that pot is addictive. but addiction experts counter that. marijuana is much less addictive than tobacco or alcohol. here's a look at the nation's weather. a narrow band of severe thunderstorms extends from colorado clear out to the coast of the carolinas and up into northern michigan. showers will also stretch from new england into virginia. otherwise the rest of the nation will be clear. most of the northern half of the country in the 70s. temperatures will be summer-like in the 80s in the south. it will heat up in the 90s in the southwest. 108 degrees for phoenix. they are expecting clear skies in iowa today. good news for the thousands of people attending the world pork expo. >> we looked this up and on today's official schedule is what is called the big grill. we suspect this is what the big grill looks like. all of those people have to eat, right? >> seriously, though, the three-day trade show is big
