bridge. there is activity with emergency crews. i am flashing lights loan the flat section but not a lot of slow traffic approaching the high-rise. we are looking at 18-minute drive from hayward to foster city but no reports of actions there. richmond-san rafael bridge is lit to marin county. and westbound highway 4, two vehicles are partly blocking a lane. kristen and eric? >> a bay area lawmaker is making a big push to ease the commute for drivers who travel between the north and east bay pushing to open a third lane on the richmond-san rafael bridge by the end of next month. the state says that is too soon. amy hollyfield is near the bridge with the specifics. amy? >> yes, lawmakers say the writing is too crowded especially during the afternoon commute. he said something has to give. his idea is to fast track
opening a third lane on this bridge. he wants to do it as soon as possible. the third lane is being used as an emergency lane. and the council said just payment a new lane. he has proposed legislation to speed up the process. he wants it open next month. commuters we talked to say that sounds great. >> i think it is necessary. a lost traffic. it is congested in the evening. it is necessary. >> caltran is preparing wait until next year saying it is not as easy as you would think. he thinks it would be simple and he thinks it needs to happen sooner ran than later. the bridge had three laned when it opened in 1956 but they closed the third lane in 1977 because this was a drought and they need to build pipeline to get water to marin. the third lane now has been used as a shoulder but he said that
needs to change. >> caltran wants to take down part of the old eastern span of the bay bridge and said it would be more cost effective by using explosives. much the old bridge is taken down piece by piece and it is slow going. it will take months to take down the largest pier. blowing cop pressed air around the pier and using hundreds of explosives brings it down in six seconds. the biggest risk is the noise from the explosion which could injure or kill marine mammals. >> this morning, san jose police are hoping new surveillance video will help them cash a murder suspect wanted in a bra tall claim. the video shows three men moments before investigators say they killed 38-year-old christopher wrenn inside an office building.
29-year-old matthew castillo is homing a gun and a masked man who is being identified. a third suspect was identified as 40-year-old rich >> the two suspects were shot and killed by police this week. police hope the public will help identify and locate the third man seen in the surveillance video. investigators are trying to figure out why christopher wrenn was targeted. >> san francisco police department san francisco police department is defending actions against a man who was combative and resisted arrest. the 42-year-old man was struggling with officers on market street near twitter headquarters august 4. he was raising wooden sticks at officers and refusing to back down. >> officers did not arrest him. he was detained for mental health detention and an ambulance was called to take him

happening now, crews are battling a slow growing grass fire in san jose that is burning in rough terrain and so acres have been burned and 70s percent contained with no hopes nettened. san jose firefighters are helping in the effort. >> now fresno county, a while fire is burning out of control with flames jumping 180 prompting mandatory evacuations with a thousand people forced from their homes, 300 structures are now being threatened. lightning sparked the fire july 31. since that type, flamed have charred 37 square miles. in washington state, firefighters and the national guard are bat weeing another massive wildfire that destroyed 170 square miles and 35 homes forcing 2 homes. a closed fire station in
lafayette could be re-opened after being shut down because of budget cuts. with more money in the pipeline, superviseers are considering re-opening the station rather than building a new station on the lafayette and orinda border that officials say makes more sense and could save millions. rehabilitating the closed station could take 15 months. residents need more fire protection in their area. >> crews are going through the rubble of a motel near see at this morning after an explosion leveled part of it last night. self people are still missing. our reporter, janet o is in the newsroom with the details. >> the story continues to develop with 65 people staying at motel. right new they are looking for three of the guests. crews are looking through the rubble looking for the guests and anyone else who could be trapped. a gas company worker would tried to turn off the gas line got injured in the indepth. the fire burned bright last
