well, good friday morning to you. i'm reena ninan. >> and i'm phillip mena. we begin with those three fallen firefighters identified killed wednesday battling a wildfire in washington state. >> they were part of an elite group that scouts wildfires ahead of the arrival of larger groups of their colleagues. as the fight against the blaze that took their lives continues, they're being honored as heroes. this morning, a somber procession, more than a dozen fire and police vehicles escorting the bodies of three firefighters, 20-year-old tom zbyszewski, 26-year-old andrew zajac and 31-year-old richard wheeler dying on the front lines. all killed when their vehicle crashed overtaken by flames in twisp, washington. >> it hurts deep, but the job goes on. >> reporter: another firefighter, 25-year-old daniel lyon, suffering critical burns. >> this was his first season as a firefighter.

he's the kind of kid that his mother and i and family are so proud of. >> reporter: lyon was flown to a hospital in seattle and is now fighting for his life. washington governor jay inslee saying nearly 400,000 acres are burning right now. abc's neal karlinsky is in twisp. >> reporter: right now they're evacuating us out of this area. the flames are coming. they're saying there is a propane tank. we're going to move on. >> reporter: overnight just 60 miles from twisp, the fast-moving flames forcing more evacuations. those living in tonasket were forced to evacuate. they told them to take cover anyway local high school as fires burned out of control. in california, fires have forced evacuations of national parks. east of oakland, billowing smoke could be seen for miles and air tankers are being used to help try to contain the blaze. in eastern oregon three dozen homes were destroyed including carolyn hodge's. >> obviously we're going to have

to find a place to live for probably a couple of years. >> and the three deaths in washington state raises the number of firefighters killed this year across the west to 13. now, some weather. we're keeping an eye on hurricane danny. it's a tiny storm spinning now nearly a thousand miles east of the windward islands. >> last night danny's maximum sustained winds right around 80 miles an hour. it's expected to weaken over the coming days and it's unclear whether it will affect land. of much more immediate concern, powerful storms causing flash flooding north of baltimore. some areas received up to 6 inches of rain. cars getting caught on flooded streets and rescue crews pulled 18 safely from their vehicles. no one injured. accuweather's justin povick has today's forecast. good morning, justin. >> phillip and reena, thanks and good morning to you. on this friday and continuing into the start of the weekend, we're concerned about drenching downpours along the interstate 95 corridor.

more specifically, new york city to hartford to boston where i think there could be some flash flooding, but to the west we're in good shape with lots of sunshine and also low humidity. now, it's bad news in the northwest. we actually need the rain, unfortunately, here. we're concerned about more fire danger. phillip and reena, back to you. >> thank you so much. into politics now and the verbal war between jeb bush and donald trump heating up. >> the men exchanging harsh words over the issue of immigration and the leading democrat now responding. abc's kenneth moton is watching it now from washington, and he joins us now live. good morning, kenneth. >> reporter: good morning, phillip and reena. yeah, busy weekend ahead for the candidates, and you better believe neither the donald nor the jeb plan to back down on the immigration talk. a bush and a billionaire, a head-to-head battle over immigration. donald trump who is surging in popularity and expecting to have his largest campaign event tonight is vowing mass deportations of illegal immigrants. >> we're going to get them out so fast and so quick and it's going to be tough. it's not going to be like oh

please would you come with us please. would you please come with us. >> reporter: jeb bush fired right back. >> there should be a little more focus on solving the problems rather than just kind of coming in like a tidal wave and saying things that are just outrageous and don't make sense. >> reporter: the only thing the republican rivals agree on is the use of the controversial term anchor babies. it's used to describe the american-born children of undocumented immigrants who have them to anchor themselves in the u.s. >> that's an offensive term. people find that hurtful. >> you mean it's not political a correct yet everybody uses it. >> do uyou regret using the term anchor babies on the radio? >> i don't. >> you don't regret it? >> no. >> reporter: two years ago bush sent a letter to capitol hill asking conservatives not to use the offensive term. >> i'll use the word anchor baby. >> reporter: hillary clinton didn't waste any time calling out both men in a new ad. the democrat tweeted a few suggestions, "how about babies,

children or american citizens." a new quinnipiac university poll shows trump is beating clinton and bush in his own state of florida. i should also tell you that trump has moved his mobile alabama, pep rally tonight from a small venue to a large 40-000 seat stadium, finn and reena. >> great expectations it sounds like, kenneth. >> kenneth moton live in washington, thank you. breaking overnight, a los angeles high-rise rocked by a powerful underground explosion. four people were injured. the 19-story building was damaged, but the fire was quickly put out. the blast also cut power to the staples center in the middle of a shania twain concert. twain tweeting, "we had so much fun in l.a. that we blew the power out." the show continued within minutes after backup electricity kicked in. no word yet on a cause. a gas explosion at a new york city high school has seriously injured three construction workers. firefighters were still combing through the rubble late last night looking for clues. the fifth and sixth floors of the school were the most

seriously damaged. construction crews were working on a gas line in a science lab when the explosion happened. police in los angeles revealing overnight that they searched the home of kiss rocker gene simmons. police would not discuss the details of the investigation which was being carried out by the lapd's internet crimes against children task force. they say simmons and his family were not the target of the investigation. simmons' wife shannon tweed tweeted "we couldn't be more horrified that someone used our residence for such heinous crimes." the los angeles sheriff's department will recommend a vehicular manslaughter charge to be filed against caitlyn jenner. investigators have determined jenner was driving too fast at the the time of a deadly chain reaction crash in malibu last february. the former olympian rear ended two cars and forced one into oncoming traffic killing one of the drivers. if she's convicted jenner could face one year in jail. former president jimmy carter has completed the first round of radiation for cancer on his brain. mr. carter revealing the

diagnosis during an extraordinary news conference yesterday in atlanta. the former president was philosophical when he first learned that the cancer had spread. >> i just thought i had a few weeks left, but i was surprisingly at ease, you know, i've had a wonderful life. surveillance cameras caught a southern california store clerk doing his best to stop a cell phone thief quickly chasing him out of the store. he even got some unexpected help from an suv that inadvertently blocked the getaway car, but the thieves were determined with the shoplifter's legs still hanging out the car window, the car squeezed through an opening and got away. it's been a horrible session for stocks in asia following a steep sell-off on wall street. some major asian averages lost more than 3% today. here in the u.s., yesterday was the worst day for stocks in 18 months. the dow losing 358 points, nasdaq shedding 141. the s&p 500 nearly 44. concern about china and a possible interest rate hike driving the slide. well, get ready for new hues in our food. popular foodmakers are now going without artificial dyes, so prepare for things to look a little different, and that

duggar apologizing after being outed on the cheating website and said in part "i have been the biggest hypocrite ever while espousing my faith and family values i became unfaithful to my wife." earlier this year duggar apologized saying he molested young girls including his sisters. a 10-year-old florida girl is recovering from a shark bite that needed 90 stitches to close up. kaley szarmac was standing in waist deep water at a jacksonville beach when she felt the shark biting her leg. she managed to walk herself out of the water but then she turned around and walked back into the surf to grab a 6-year-old family friend and drag her to safety. >> she got bit on the right leg. she said she felt it and turned and she could see the shark and she could see the fin flailing around. she turned and yelled to her friend get out of the water. it's a shark. >> kaley's dad said she's expected to make a full recovery and be back on her surfboard soon. he adds that she will have a

pretty good scar but that also means that she'll have quite a story to tell. a different kind of danger at a beach in michigan. powerful rip currents, the surf so rough two teenagers had to be rescued from lake michigan. a hero surfer pulled the 13-year-old and 14-year-old girls from the water with the help of public safety officers. one teen wasn't breathing, but she is now in stable condition. the waves near muskegon were as high as seven feet and red flags were posted indicating dangerous swimming conditions. well a new study is renewing a debate about treatment options for breast cancer in its earliest stages. researchers found women who had lumpectomies and mastectomies for stage zero breast cancer lived as long as those who didn't have the surgery. the study followed 100,000 women. it's the most extensive research yet on early stage cancer. a houston woman is learning to walk again thanks to some cutting-edge technology.

sara domson suffered a devastating injury which left her legs paralyzed. she was in a wheelchair until now. with help from a robotic exoskeleton called rewalk, she's up on her feet again. >> psychologically it just means so much to be eye-to-eye with your family and friends. >> with this it gives me hope. i can walk everywhere again. i won't have to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. >> and that is good news for so many people. there are fewer than 30 of the rewalks available in the country. if her insurance company approves, domson can take one home next year. now some sports and take heart, nfl fans, the first week of the regular season is just four weeks from this sunday. >> i can't believe it and for now preseason will have to do. our highlights from our guys at espn. >> hey, welcome. doing a little sports for you here. [ nurse ] i'm a hospice nurse. britta olsen is my patient. i spend long hours with her checking her heart rate administering her medication, and just making her comfortable. one night britta told me about a tradition in denmark, "when a person dies," she said "someone must open the window so the soul can depart." i smiled and squeezed her hand. all of us are in the 60 by 9:00 tonight. a lot of cars on the road this friday commute. >> the bay bridge toll plaza has cars flowing into the toll plaza but waiting to pay the cash and we seeing backup on the left side. it is not causing teach of a delay in the commute. it will be friday lite we hope. in san jose, it is as we pass along 280 near 880 highway 17 in the background not going to be a trouble spot. drive time traffic 680 southbound from walnut creek to dublin is ten minutes. 101 southbound from santa rosa to san francisco is 53 minutes santa cruz mountains are at posted speed. >> a destruct of fire at an iron company is burning on mare island after a burning collapse, shelter in place order and

flames seen for miles. amy hollyfield is in vallejo? >> it is smoking. and smoldering. the pictures of the fire show a huge fire lit up the night a huge glow that started before midnight at the metal skirt ron barge warehouse on mare island in vallejo. the roof collapsed in 62, square foot warehouse. there was the fear of it spreading. it caught some of the grass on fire. that was a big scare they got the vegetation fire out quickly. it took a while to get this warehouse fire under control. they are still watching it carefully. it is still smoking. they had to close highway 37 for a short time. some of the off-ramps are still
