a mother's day nightmare when a woman's baby is snatched out of her arms in an attempted abduction. a good neighbor coming the her rescue. >> it happened at 14th street where residents say the area is overrun with transients constantly causing problems. >> the story now you'll see only on abc7 news. >> thanks to a woman who intervened the baby was never taken away but it created some terrifying moments for the woman's mother. >> this come came behind us. she was acting out. that homeless woman was caught on the security video which captures the moments leading up to the struggle for a woman's

baby. it happened in san francisco's mission district. >> then, the woman came out with her baby and she tried to grab the woman's baby. >> the video stopped recording before the struggle. another neighbor came to the rescue. >> i had an object in my hand just to let her know, you won't take baby. get off my street. she was a homeless woman. it looked like she was under the influence of drugs. >> baby is said to be okay but she was taken to the hospital to get checked out as a precaution. neighbors stay woman who tried to take baby was in a group of transients. it is the latest in what seems to be homeless-related issues. >> we've had vandalism, people masturbating, urinating, defense indicating, encampments. nothing is being done. >> it is unclear what charges if

any there will be. in san francisco, abc7 news. we have breaking news in the north bay. one person is dead. another is under arrest after a stabbing on the campus of the state university. >> we have the public information officer for sonoma state university joining us live on the phone. first and foremost, thank you for joining us. >> all i can say is at this point, about 5:53 p.m. this evening, the police department here on campus was informed that an individual has been stabbed in the residential committee here on campus. the university police in the fire department personnel responded and the fire personnel determined that shortly after 6:00, the individual was deceased. shortly after that, a suspect was detained and based upon the information at that time, police

determined there was no threat to the student population and the campus community. i can tell you both individuals are college age males. we don't know if they are students here at sonoma state university. the pet loom did police department has agreed to help tend investigation, and the university has provided grief counsellors for those residents in our residential communities to support them during this time. we're also finding housing and local hotels for any students not able to get back in their dorms because it is a crime scene. so that's all we know at this point and we hope to provide updates as information is available. >> just curious. where are you in the school year? do we have finals coming up? are most of the students still

on campus? >> that's a good question. we're right at the end of the school year. next week is final exams. we are reaching out to, we are making a decision right now as to how wee be handling that. they are going to, classes were scheduled to have on final exams tomorrow and we are going to determine how that, whether those will continue. i can't say at this point. but the campus will be open. and commencements will be on and scheduled later this week. we are concerned about how this is weigh on our students and that's our primary concern at this time. so we'll make a decision, an announcement concerning finals, hopefully by tomorrow. >> understandably so. we will continue to follow. many thanks to you.

the public information officer for sonoma state university. new details involving a shooting with a deputy in sonoma that left one person injured. >> the police department is taking over the investigation. this shooting happened just after 11:00 in the morning. two deputies responded to a call of an employee acting strangely and refusing to leave. the suspect pulled out a gun and shot at deputies. one returned fire. >> based on the injuries to the deputy, we believe it was loaded with what is commonly known as snake shot. it is a round with tiny pellets in it of the will. >> the suspect was quick will arrested. the authorities identified him as ryan. he has been booked on suspicious. the deputy has been taken to the hospital and is in good condition. san franciscans head to the polls to vote for the new mayor.
