get what they want. the role that matthew mcconaughey desperately wanted but just wasn't good enough. it's monday, november 5th . >> announcer: from abc news, this is "world news now." >> who knows. there was a clue right there in the last bit of image there. >> we'll get to that later. we're going to begin with a last-minute push to mobilize voters with control of the house and senate up for grabs. >> president trump is making a final swing through the midwest today holding rallies in ohio, indiana and missouri. after wrapping up the weekend in chattanooga, tennessee. former president obama was in gary, indiana campaigning for vulnerable senate democrat joe donnelly. and vice president mike pence will stump for republicans in montana today. andy field has the latest on the key races. >> reporter: the president continuing his 44-city campaign blitz stumping sunday night in tennessee. >> this is one of the most important elections of our time.

>> reporter: hoping to encourage a red wave as voters head to the polls. earlier the day, he was in georgia, a state with a contentious governors race. >> you want more caravans and you want more crime, vote democrat. it's very simple. >> reporter: georgia's secretary of state, republican brian kemp, running against democrat stacey abrams. kemp's office requesting an fbi investigation accusing democrats are trying to hack georgia's voter registration system. abrams spoke with the atlanta affiliate wsb. >> he is trying to rile up his base by misleading voters yet again. >> reporter: kemp himself fighting claims of voter suppression. >> that's a myth that the democrats bring out every two years. >> reporter: the florida governor's race also closely watched. tallahassee mayor andrew gillum locked in a tough fight with ron desantis, a loyal trump supporter. the balance of power in the house and senate also at stake. democrats needing just two seats to take the senate. in arizona, two women vying to become the first female senator, republican martha mcsally -- >> i'm working closely with

president trump. >> reporter: and democrat krysten sinema. >> the difference between our two campaigns could not be more clear. >> reporter: in texas, beto o'rourke trying to become the first democratic senator elected in texas in nearly 25 years. >> let's remember that before we're republicans or democrats, we're americans, texans. >> reporter: he is up against incumbent republican senator ted cruz. >> stopping all the positive progress we're making is that good for the people of texas? >> reporter: andy field, abc news, washington. last night, beto o'rourke told "60 minutes" he doesn't want national democrats to campaign for him because texas voters should decide on their own terms. >> senator cruz who is backed by president trump claims o'rourke is too radical for texas and cruz is holding only a slight lead in the polls. he talked to our paula faris a short time ago. >> too close for comfort here? no, you're good?

>> i think momentum is very much with us. we're seeing record turnout which is great news. we always knew the hard left was going to show up. they were ticked off. this election was all about ordinary texans showing up. >> paula will talk with beto o'rourke today. more than 5 million people cast their ballots in early voting in texas. that's more than the total who voted in the state's 2014 midterm elections altogether. comedian amy schumer went back to school to urge young voters to cast their ballots early. schumer knocked on dorm room doors at the university of nevada las vegas yesterday taking students by surprise. and she even escorted some to an on-campus polling site. starting tomorrow night at 8:00, abc news will have complete coverage of all the election returns. george stephanopoulos leading our coverage from a very special election set that is much cooler than our set. you see it there. >> take a look at it.

>> it's on the ground floor at the abc headquarters. it is where they used to do "the chew," "millionaire" and a bit of history. it's where the nixon/kennedy debate apparently was shot way back when. >> interesting. a large home near philadelphia is gone, leveled by a gas explosion. >> it happened in gladwin, one of the city's wealthy main line suburbs. no one was at home at the time and no injuries are reported. it's on a large property so it appears no other homes were damaged. the 9,000-foot home was on the market earlier this year for $1.8 million. the blast was heard 20 miles away in new jersey. >> the utah mayor killed in afghanistan is being remembered as a patriot. bret taylor died during an insider attack in kabul. he left his family and job to serve his country, making the ultimate sacrifice. lana zak has more on the life of this fallen hero.

>> reporter: the major mayor killed in an insider attack in afghanistan. army national guard major brent taylor, mayor of north ogden, utah, was shot when they opened fire at the military base in kabul. >> major taylor's desire to serve his country are a testament to the character of this man. >> reporter: 39-year-old major taylor serving his fourth deployment, second in afghanistan. he volunteered for the assignment even as they tried to talk him out of it. >> he was even discouraged. you've done enough. you've done your part. >> reporter: the major and mayor ten months into his latest tour. his thoughts never far from home. his community and his family. he posted on facebook about being 7,000 miles away watching his baby girl learn to walk via skype. his final message reflecting on tuesday's midterms and what he called the precious right to vote hoping whether the republicans or the democrats win, that we all remember that we have far more as americans that unites us than divides us.

major taylor's remains are due back in the united states monday. this is the second apparent insider attack involving u.s. forces in less than three weeks. lana zak, abc news, washington. the tragic end to a wedding celebration is under way in texas. reports say this helicopter was carrying a newlywed couple when it crashed shortly after leaving their ceremony outside san antonio. multiple reports say will and bailey byler and the chopper pilot were all killed in yesterday's early morning crash. the ntsb is set to release more details today. they were students at sam houston state university. and the woman known as southpark susan has turned herself in. susan westwood from charlotte, north carolina is allegedly seen on this video screaming racial slurs at two black women. they were waiting for aaa to come jump-start their car. westwood allegedly told 911 the black women were attempting to break into apartments and offered the dispatcher $2500 to

get them out of here. she's been fired by her employer. the outlook is good for the air force academy's mascot. aurora, the falcon, was stolen as a prank before this weekend's game at west point. and suffered an injury. west point has issued an apology. however, the 22-year-old falcon is already flying around her pen. air force officials say aurora is expected to make a full recovery. the west point cadets who stole the bird could face jail and dishonorable discharge. philadelphia's super bowl win in february has led to a new flock of eagles fans. >> while lots of people were seen climbing greased lamp posts after the victory, some philly fans apparently had other plans. news reports out of the city of brotherly love say there's a baby boom under way. sunday marked nine months to the day since the eagles dethroned >> they had other plans. quite the juxtaposition.
