i can't stop looking at that hot day on friday. we have got quite a few problems and mostly in the east bay. especially on southbound 680. there's two accidents along that stretch, one on the off ramp. southbound 680 heavy all the way through pleasanton and southbound 880 stretch a couple earlier accidents in hayward and then on city streets we are hearing about a serious motorcycle crash blocking at least a couple of the lanes so i think traffic will be heavy through that intersection. it's also slow ride as you make yourself way from southbound 880 on to westbound 92, the san mateo bridge here sluggish in hayward and along that flat section to the incline making the way to foster city, also crowded westbound 80 through emeryville and no major problems today on the east shore freeway. >> thank you. east bay, there's a long awaited grand opening today for a fire station in lafayette. the fire station 16 closed in

2013 because of a budget shortfall but in 2016 the city decided to refurbish and reopen it. numerous set basks delayed the opening including construction and power issues. it's near highway 24 off happy valley road. city leaders say it will add much needed protection from wildfires. affordable housing to build a better bay area. in the east bay, concord may be taking a big step toward finding a solution. the city plans to turn part of the old concord naval weapons station into a housing development. the coast guard owns the land. con card wants a deal by early next year for 13,000 housing units on 58 acres of land. tomorrow the city council will get an update with negotiations and the coast guard. next, the seven things to know before you go. first, a laugh to start the week. these guys in australia cruising through a local expo and motorized recliners. >> i can't. >> they couldn't be bothered. they had to see this whatever

has dropped a request for his client to be released. in a statement the lawyer for the man said he needs more time for a better idea of what happened. elder and gabe natalie have been in jail since july when investigators say they stabbed an officer during a scuffle. prosecutors say the two were trying to sell a stolen backpack in exchange for money and cross-country. a big announcement today about the case of steven avery at the center of the netflix series "making a murder." the attorney tweeted over the weekend to stay tuned with #trust wins and making a murderer 2. avery is serving life in prison for killing teresa in 2005. last month, a judge denied his request for a new trial based on how investigators handled evidence. abc 7 news is committed to building a better bay area and learning more about the rights especially coming to renting. abc 7 news is in burlingame when they held a picnic for renters and the group is pushing for

them. it happened just after 9:00 last night on wall street in the crocker amazon district near geneva avenue. a man died and a woman taken to the hospital and expected to survive. right now it's not clear what led up to that shooting. travelers at sfo bracing for more delays after hundreds of flights were canceled, hundreds more delayed and that was just over the weekend. >> it's all because of the construction on that runway we have been telling you about. there could be more today. abc 7 news reporter jobina fortson is live with what to expect. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. listen to this. this is for flights today out of sfo, the airport telling us 96 delays so far and 80 cancelations. we were saying earlier you were supposed to leave before 9:00 a.m. to hopefully not be impacted by this but people already are. this is day three of the 20-day long construction project on the runway here at the airport over

the weekend it was an absolute mess for travelers and listen to the numbers from the week. officials tell us 298 flights delayed and 129 were canceled for sunday. to put that in perspective of the 1,300 daily flights about 70% were unaffected by construction. many passengers said they didn't know about the construction otherwise they would have booked in and out of a different airport. crews reconstructing a damaged area of the runway. chris is a retired commercial airline pilot. he feels sfo's preeffortive 13% reduction in flights during construction was adequate. >> the airport is built on fill in the bay and subject to settling, subject to all the environmental issues that you can think of. it's going to inconvenience people. no question about that. but it needs to get done. >> reporter: construction is predicted to wrap up by september 27th. for now, live as
