in chicago, jussie smollett is telling his story to the judge and a jury. the actor returns to the stand today in his own trial over the alleged attack that prosecutors say he engineered. here's kristine sloan. >> reporter: this morning, actor jussie smollett taking the stand in his own defense. the former "empire" actor denying he staged a racist and anti-gay attack against himself, testifying there was no hoax, similar to what he said in 2019. >> i've been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. i would not be my mother's son if i was capable of one drop of what i was accused of. >> reporter: the alleged attackers were eventually identified as two brothers who

testified last week that smollett paid them $3500 to carry out the fake assault, including placing a noose around his neck. >> do you want to take it off or anything? >> yes, i do. they poured bleach on me. i want it to be filmed. >> reporter: in court monday, smollett testified he did pay one of the brothers, but foror advice on nutrition and training. smollett says they met in 2017 at a club and both worked on the set of "empire". he said both did drugs and had a sexual relationship, a claim osundairo denies. smollett's lawyer has suggested the brothers were motivated by greed and their dislike of smollett, claiming the brothers tried to get $1 million from the actor. but the brothers, aspiring actors, say they worked with smollett in hopes of advancing their careers. the prosecution saying smollett
