((sherry swensk)) back to you./// ((kirsten joyce)) delta airlines says the nationwide outage was due to their back- up systems not properly functioning. due of flights to be delayed and canceled. the airline says a malfunction caused a surge to a transformer.. causing it to lose power. delta says about 90 flights are expected to be canceled today.. but everything should be back to normal in the afternoon. they still urge travelers to check their flights before heading to the airport. passengers who were affected by the outage were offered vouchers for future delta flights. /// ((brian loftus)) this morning, florida investigators are trying to figure out.. how a woman was killed during a police department gun

((brian loftus)) >> as kris van cleave reports... some airlines computer systems are older than the planes themselves. the outage disabled delta's flight status alerts (shanese sims, delta passenger) we found out we're four hours delayed. airport monitors incorrectly listed flights as on time... the prompted an apology from delta's ceo. (delta ceo ed bastion) "it's an all hands on deck effort." delta's network outage raises questions about the reliability of computer systems used by airlines... which are not regulated by the faa. last year, united and american both suffered computer problems. in july, a faulty router forced southwest to ground flights... a disruption that lasted days.
