versus pedestrian collision... with a word from police. ((michael stevens)) >> brian, michelle... it really has been a deadly stretch... and police are fed up with the recent trend. the most recent auto vs. pedestrian crash happened here near eastern and sahara. police say a woman was walking in a marked crosswalk last night... the woman was taken to sunrise hospital where she later died. police are urging drivers to slow down and be aware of their surroundings: ((sgt. richard strader // metro police: "as a driver on the roadway, even though you're doing what you're supposed to do, pay attention even more. just take your foot off the accelerator and be prepared for pedestrians, and the weather is nice out, so people are going to be out right now.")) back to you./// ((michelle mortensen)) the recent death of a child at a popular water park.. is raising some concerns on park safety here in the valley. amusement parks in southern nevada are inspected annually. at wet-n-wild, there are weekly exercises and training drills for lifeguards.. making sure they're up-to-date on safety procedures. they also test the slides every morning before the park opens.

according to the amusement safety organization... there were 147 significant injuries in 2015 in the valley. most of those were at the big apple coaster at new york new york. that's an increase from the previous year by about 50 people. /// ((sherry swensk)) it's harvest season at the pahrump valley winery.. and they're giving napa valley a run for its money. crews started hand- picking grapes early yesterday morning. the vineyara 20-years-old. the picked grapes will be used to make zinfandel wine. the wine will be checked for taste every three to four months.. and the season's zinfandel wine will be ready to drink by 2018. the pahrump valley winery produces seven nevada wines and can be found at local stores. /// ((kirsten joyce)) right now..

((michelle mortensen)) the man accused of sexually assaulting a hotel employee inside boulder station... is set to be in court this morning. according to an arrest report. ivon major told police he used drugs and doesn't remember what happened. his mother turned him in after seeing surveillance video on the news. punched the victim in the face and body multiple times... before touching her and forcing her to perform oral sex. major reportedly ran away after a co-worker called out to the hotel employee. the man did not admit to the sexual assault to detectives... but says he used heroin and meth that night. /// ((brian loftus)) police need help finding a man.. who may have been involved in a robbery on the las vegas strip. this is a surveillance photo taken on august third.. in the area of the venetian and

((brian loftus)) currently, there's over a dozen cases of zika in one and many pregnant women concerned about the disease.. find themselves worried about what chemicals are in insect repellent, like deet. jon lapook reports. ( simon) "to be honest, i don't know if i feel comfortable wearing deet." 31 year old ali simon is 37 weeks pregnant and lives in new jersey. she knows zika has reached mosquitoes in the u.s., and like many pregnant women we've spoken to, is leery of wearing insect repellent during her pregnancy. (simon) "i would be

would only wear it if i absolutley, posively had to." (8 sec) (vogel) "these repellents are safe, safe for use by all populations, including pregnant women." (5 sec) dana vogel heads the division of the environmental protection agency that examines the health effects of pesticides. vogel says she understands the fear pregnant women may about using chemicals to try to prevent the mosquito bites that spread zika. (vogel) "being a mom, having been pregnant at one point in time, i would use a rl that they're definitely safe for use, as i participated in the reviews of them. there have been only been a few published studies addressing the effects of deet on expectant mothers and their children. there's mostly animal research on the topic. however, one study in pregnant women found insect repellent with 20 percent deet used daily in the second or third trimester was safe for both mother and baby. (vogel) "no product's put on the market unless a safety evaluation is done and it's found to be safe."
