were introduced today to rock 'n' roll royalty, and some new technology that will help teach them to read. andre agassi told an assembly of youngsters that hall of fame guitarist carlos santana helped to raise the funds to build the school, and while some of the kids may not have known santana's name, the teachers and parents certainly did. ((carlos santana/musician- philathropist: i'm very grateful and honored to be a brother and friend of andre because we did what we did with music or sports so we can do this. because nothing gives us more joy than to see you be triumphant. be victorious >> santana is donating to the school a dollar from every ticket sold during his las vegas performances. also unveiled today, the donation of a new reading system called square panda. the multi sensory tool uses computer tablets to track each students' progress in reading skills.

26 year old robert abner was shot several times after a fight broke out at a party. it happened early sunday morning.. at a home near jones and tropical in the northwest. the suspect took off before police got there. abner was the 144th homicide in metro's jurisdiction this year./// ((denise valdez)) police need your help tracking down a crook on the run... responsible for a string of local burglaries. take a look -- the suspect uses a crowbar to pry open slot machines a there is no clear description of the suspect, but police believe he may have used a silver or gray sedan, possibly a mercedes benz as a getaway car. the robberies started back in may and happened in the northern and northwest part of the valley. if you know anything please call crimestoppers./// ((denise valdez)) a massive wild horse roundup in northern nevada is underway. the roundup is near the humboldt mountains. the bureau of land management plans to gather 16-hundred horses that they say are on sage

roundup there in 2013. that roundup was interupted after wild horse advocates sued the blm.. saying this video showed them using electric cattle prods... in violation of agency policy./// ((dave courvoisier)) the las vegas monorail could be expanding... linking the strip to the proposed stadium that would house the raiders and unlv. the operators of the monorail pitched their vision to clark county commissioners today.. would allow the expansion... here's a closer look at the plan.. the monorail currently ends at the mgm grand.. if the funding comes to life... the monorail would extend to mandalay bay... where a pedestrian bridge would connect people from the monorail to the new stadium. the extension would be about a mile.. making the track nearly five miles long. but there's still no word yet on a possible extension to the airport./// yleh animation ((dave courvoisier)) the flood of candidates vying for last minute votes in southern nevada continues this week.

((venicia: a lot of people believe that this problem is behind us and everything is okay and if it was, we wouldn't still be having this class. we still have people everyday that come in here that look for assistance, we have people who are losing their houses.)) payments after beatrice says armando's construction hours were cut...a familiar story in las vegas during the housing crisis. but beatrice insists - after filing for bankruptcy - mortgage payments were made but the checks were sent back. the couple even filed a lawsuit to fight for their home which they didn't win... consider when picking out health insurance. first check your finances. look at what you spent on medical insurance coverage previously and how much you paid out of pocket. then compare that with the frequency of your doctor visits. if you typically don't go to the doctor too often consider a higher deductible plan. your monthly insurance premiums will cost less. but your co-pays and hospital visits could be more. if you have a lot of doctor visits or have a pre-existing condition a lower deductible plan may be t know your out-of-pocket maximum. look at co-pays for visits or co-insurance to see how much extra you'll spend to see your doctor. make sure your doctors are considered in-network. typically seeing someone off your plan or out of network will cost more. if you have the option contribute to a health savings account or h-s-a. money put into the account is tax- deductible. in some cases employers can also contribute to your fund. simple tips that won't make you sick over health insurance coverage

the el cortez hotel and casino -- a cornerstone of downtown las vegas history. but it's more than just a 75th anniversary... el cortez is the longest continuously running hotel and casino in las vegas. when the hotel first opened in 1941 -- they had a casino floor of course.. a show floor, a restuarant, a cafe... and only 59 rooms... it was bought in the 40's by siegal, meyer lansky, gus greenbaum and moe sedway for just 600-thousand dollars. at one point it was even purchased by las vegas legend jackie gaughan who had stake in a number of strip propterties. now the casino is on the national register of historic places... ...and while the casino has transformed and undergone plenty of renovations over the past few years.... a couple things remains the same.
