[ cheers and applause ] took him long enough. you guys, it's been a week and the media continues to beat on weiner. [ laughter and applause ] this weekend, anthony weiner announced that he's taking a leave of absence but that he's leaving the door open. uh -- no word on what he's using for door stops.
but he's -- apparently anthony weiner, he won't decide if he's resigning until his wife comes back from her trip to africa with hillary clinton. i don't know what's more ridiculous -- that he thinks he can stay in office or that he thinks his wife is coming back it's just -- [ laughter ] -- funny. speaking of hillary clinton, a new comic book about hillary came out this week. it's pretty realistic. instead of being destroyed by her arch nemesis, hillary just agrees to become the secretary of state. [ laughter ] it's very interesting. [ laughter ] take your time. [ laughter ] it's all right. check this out. nasa is planning to send the first iphones into space next month. how cool is that? yeah. scientists say that if they can figure out a way to make iphones work in outer space, they can eventually get them to work here in midtown manhattan. said that facebook founder mark zuckerberg is engaged. when pressed for more info, gates just froze and had to be rebooted. it was really -- [ laughter ] that's right. mark zuckerberg is apparently getting married. that should be a sweet ceremony. it's like, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? accept. [ laughter ] you may now like the bride. [ laughter ] it's very nice. they're honeymooning in their favorite city, farmville. it should be really cute. [ cheers and applause ] some business news. wendy's is selling the arby's restaurant chain to the company that owns cinnabon. or as most americans put it, my launch place is selling my dinner place to my breakfast place. [ laughter ] and finally -- get this. sarah palin's newly released e-mails show that she and george w. bush discussed the 2008 election. that's right.
e-mails between palin and bush otherwise known as spell-check's worst nightmare. [ laughter ] we have a great show tonight. give it up for the roots! 10-year-old daughter open for justin bieber and command an audience of 20,000 people. it was sick. and she was amazing, like -- >> jimmy: yeah, yeah. >> and look, you think that your daughter's going to walk in and see, you know, the place with 20,000 people and be, like, "oh, my god, i don't think i can do it." she was like, "is this where i'm performing? okay, i can't wait." [ laughter ] she started like a dance party! and i looked at will and i said, "i told you." >> jimmy: really. >> yeah. and then, she murdered it. >> jimmy: i was scared just to walk in my parents' kitchen and tell jokes when i was a little kid. >> no. [ laughter ] >> it was crazy. >> jimmy: the crowd wasn't as accepting -- my parents booed me. at all the big summer movies now, they're all like it's captain america. it's green lantern. it's all kind of nerdy stuff really, like nerds -- the geeks have inherited the earth, you know. and now it's like -- we rule now. >> jimmy: yeah, that's great. that's really cool. [ applause ] >> yeah. >> jimmy: they say the geeks shall inherit the earth, if second you did a second book, that would be a great title. there's one chapter in here that you're in love with carrie fisher. >> oh, yeah. >> jimmy: and, gosh, we all love carrie fisher. i loved her from "blues brothers." >> yeah, absolutely. >> jimmy: she was just so cool. >> i remember seeing her -- >> jimmy: flame thrower. >> yeah. i saw after "star wars" when she was all feisty and a bit, like -- you know, she was in love, and it made me feel funny in my tummy because it wasn't princess leia but it was still her. >> jimmy: yeah. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i got you. yeah, yeah. >> sorry, sorry. just had to share. >> jimmy: yeah, yeah. but there's a whole thing. did you ever meet her? >> i did. you know the funny thing was i queued up -- i lined up to meet her at comicon, like, you know, just as a fan, but i just finished signing myself for "shaun of the dead." so, i literally was, like, looking over to see where she was and signing autographs and got to the last one, and i'm like, thank you. and then walked over and joined the line to meet carrie fisher with a guy who just got my autograph. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: standing behind him. >> i was, like, "hi." >> jimmy: can i get a picture of
this? >> i was like, i just paid 15 bucks! [ laughter ] but i went up and i said to her that i told her i used to kiss her picture every night before i went to bed. and -- >> jimmy: is that when security grabbed you and -- pulled you out of -- removed you from comicon? >> she said -- no, she said, "do you feel better for telling me that?" and i said -- i said, "yes i do." [ laughter ] >> jimmy: yeah, why not? you got to meet a lot of your idols. i mean -- >> yeah, yeah, yeah. >> jimmy: you just got work with spielberg on "tin tin." >> yeah, which was amazing. fantastic. >> jimmy: that looks so cool. the trailer -- i saw the trailer, and it killed in the theater i was in. >> it's extraordinary. i mean it really is like -- it just looks so beautiful and -- i mean, america is probably not familiar with "tin tin." it's from belgium, the story. >> jimmy: it's like "hello kitty" for us. >> oh, is it? >> jimmy: we know it exists. >> it's there. >> jimmy: it's there. yeah, we know it's available. >> but it's going to blow people away, i think. >> jimmy: yeah, and it's like a new type of animation, right? >> yeah. performance capture. we did like -- you know it's the suits --
like "avatar," basically. we all had the very tight-fitting -- me and nick cross in tight-fitting outfits. not that pretty. [ scattered applause ] >> jimmy: that could sell the movie alone, maybe, right there. yeah, yeah, yeah. he's a funny guy. >> in the film -- in the film we're identical twins. so, it was great. steven spielberg beat me up on set. it was one of the most amazing days of my life. >> jimmy: what are you talking about? you started a fight with steven spielberg? >> no, he was demonstrating to andy serkis, who played gollum in lord of the rings, how to rough my character up at one point, or it was a character, he used me. he said, "simon, let me do this." so he sat on top of me and -- "it's like this. it's like this!" and i was going -- [ laughter ] and then andy serkis is going, "you mean like this?" and i was going -- and i was laughing like i was being tickled because i was being, you know, basically man-handled by the creator of "e.t." and gollum. >> jimmy: and gollum as well. yeah, yeah. >> how did this happen? >> jimmy: it was the weirdest in my whole life. it is so wild. >> yeah. >> jimmy: then, i mean, "star trek," by the way, great job in "star trek." that was just phenomenal. [ laughter ] it wasn't just leonard with -- you know he -- >> jimmy: no. you didn't meet him in a mall somewhere. >> it was like, i've known that character since i was nine, right. like '79 i think i started watching it on british tv, and then, you know, maybe 30 years later, exactly 30 years later, and i'm talking to the character, not just the actor but the character. and i kept sort of going -- [ laughter ] >> jimmy: how could this be real? >> it was ridiculous. >> jimmy: how could it be real? well congratulations on everything. i hope everyone picks up this book "nerd do well." download it on your kindle, whatever you've got to do. " who do you have with you, my friend? >> i brought a couple of very important people with me. it takes -- we have got two of the best developers in the world collaborating on this game. this is glen scofield from sledgehammer games and
robert bowling from infinity ward. >> jimmy: very good. welcome guys. [ cheers and applause ] >> bowling and scofield are together, it's going to be great. >> jimmy: i mean, "call of duty," it's the biggest franchise in video games, but money making, you guys made, like, a gazillion dollars. >> well, the last two "call of duty's, "modern warfare 2," two years ago and "call of duty: black ops" last year, both broke the record for the biggest entertainment launch in history, not just games. bigger than movies, everything. [ talking over each other ] right. >> jimmy: you were bigger than gaga? >> well -- >> jimmy: yeah. good question, yeah. >> the way i think about it is like, you know how, a lot of people who probably don't watch the nfl every single sunday will still watch the super bowl. >> jimmy: yeah, sure. >> a lot of people who, you know probably aren't hardcore sci-fi fans still saw "avatar." >> jimmy: yeah. >> that's what "call of duty" is becoming to games. it appeals to the core. they're our key audience. >> jimmy: everyone plays it. yeah, but it's so fun. >> but we bring in new people. we bring new people in every year. >> jimmy: yeah. now, do you feel pressure to top yourself because it was such a good game? >> absolutely. absolutely. every year we've got to -- we've got to top ourselves, and that's why we've got such -- you know, we've got the best developers in the world working on this with sledgehammer and infinity ward, and you know, i'm pretty confident this is going to be it. >> jimmy: "modern warfare 3," can you show us a little something? >> yeah, brought along a little game play. you want to check it out here? >> jimmy: yeah, let's check it out here.
oh, yeah. here you go. so, you're on a raft? >> we're in new york harbor right here. and one of the things that separates "modern warfare 3" from past titles is a lot of urban environments. you're playing in iconic locations all over the world. this we're pushing the russian army and military out of manhattan. >> jimmy: the russians are in manhattan. >> the russians have invaded -- [ laughter ] >> jimmy: finally they've invaded manhattan. >> yes, exactly. >> jimmy: we knew this would happen one day. ooh, bang. oh, bang. later. bye. >> and this is this environment is massive. you want to know something, we built like half of manhattan for this. >> the new york harbor, and then we filled it with the russian navy, who are now raining missiles down on us. >> jimmy: so, you actually get to fight in the streets in this one. >> yeah, absolutely. and in london, in paris, in berlin. and what i think these guys do better than anyone is, it feels like you're dropped in the middle of a hollywood blockbuster action movie, and you're playing the movie. it's got this incredible cinematic scope. >> jimmy: oh, yeah. looks gorgeous. >> and you know, the graphics look beautiful. it's authentic. >> jimmy: you're doing a big social networking thing too with this one? right? >> it's called "call of duty
elite," and basically we've built an entire social network just for "call of duty" fans. there are 30 million people who played "call of duty." >> jimmy: yeah. >> it's going to make multiplayer better than ever. >> jimmy: wait, so it's co-op, but it's -- but it's actually for the game, game. >> it's just for the game. it's just for the game. it uses things like, facebook and twitter. you can user view, join up with your friends, play against your friends, play with different squads and clans, have tournaments. >> jimmy: there's a beta on this. >> callofduty.com/elite. you can sign up for the beta, which we'll be doing over the summer. >> jimmy: can we play a little bit? >> you want to get your hands on this thing? >> jimmy: i know simon pegg might want to get his hands on it, as well.
