it's 4:31. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to get to. first the monday morning forecast with meteorologist christina loren. hope you had a good weekend. >> thank you, same to you. hope you did as well. it's cold out there to start the day. temperatures are going to remain cold as we get into this afternoon, the big news in the weather department is the fact we've got showers on the way come thanksgiving day. so i'll detail that but for today we're going to climb out of the 30s and 40s into the mid-60s. lots of sunshine and then the changes arrive. i'll detail that in my next report. let's say good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. that weather is a concern. the travel week as well. so we're looking ahead to christina's report. the presence, this is 880 in fremont past the truck scales. i'll circle this on the map. you see the light volume on the screen. on the map we see slowing, in the northbound direction that

was around the truck scales. didn't see it clearly, so we'll track it but so far we're looking at a smooth drive. i'll track those. 680 southbound in the same area reports of wood in the roadway. again no problem for the sensor reads including this area, pleasanton, sunol. a light build now. we should see a lighter flow but monday might be similar to the regular commute. tuesday and wednesday hopefully a lighter flow. >> we'll see. air force one touches down in san francisco in a few hours for a fundraising trip by president obama. the president arrived around 10:30, then it's straight to the betty aung recreation center for a speech at 11:30. across town the president will attend a fund raising luncheon at the jazz center. organizers had to slash ticket prices in half to help the event sell out. >> i think what that means is there are only so many leaves to pick on the money tree, and when

you come back so often and you want to squeeze that orange for a little extra sometimes you're not going to come up with a lot in the end. >> the president cinches up with a tech roundtable for v.i.p.'s. that's at 2:00 this afternoon. tickets for that event went for more than $32,000. then back on board at 3:30 headed for los angeles. in the meantime, protests have started, the group the world can't wait assembled to urge the president to end drone attacks over cities. >> the ninth time the president has visited the bay area over the last 2 1/2 years, his last trip six months ago in june. since then the president's poll numbers have dropped. his approval rating a at mere 39% down from 62% during his last visit. political analysts blame the

dropping numbers on the president's troubled health care rollout. for more information including the street closures you may be facing and the impact on traffic head to nbcbayarea.com, search president obama. >> 4:34. new this morning a disturbance at denny's leaves an officer injured and a man under arrest. it happened around midnight at the denny's on north first street. you can see the man police arrested in the center of the photo we're about to show threw. denny's management told completion the man was asleep in the restaurant and would not leave. police say when they arrived the man physically resisted arrest, he managed to get cuffs on him but as they were walking down the man lashed out again. both the suspect and arresting officer fell over. it's unclear how badly the officer was injured. >> a man still recovering from oakland after risking his own

life to save somebody else. this happened last night at the raiders game. we have a live look at the o.co coliseum. officials say after the game ended a woman jumped from the third deck of the coliseum. people below tried to stop her, then a man on the second deck, he tried to catch her. with his good deed he was hurt, also taken to the hospital. he is listed in stable condition. for the woman, she's also at the hospital, she is listed currently in critical condition. >> it's 4:35. this morning a memorial is growing for a beloved football coach killed in a crash over the weekend. the chp says 76-year-old john webb was driving northbound on 680 near fremont early saturday morning when he hit a stalled van. webb reportedly got out of his car to help direct traffic, and that's when the chp says another car hit and killed him. webb was heading home after watching the san jose state football game.

the university alum taught at john f. kennedy high school and after retiring and being the athletic director. >> if anything the school needed him to do, his activities, adviser, director for many years, he was athletic director, taught several subjects, pennsylvania e. to wood shop to math, whatever they needed him to do. >> his colleagues said he had opportunity to coach in the nfl including an offer to work under 49ers coach bill walsh. his focus was on student athletes. a vigil is planned for tomorrow night outside john f. kennedy julio franco. high school. >> finding out what happened to a boy found injured and unconscious at a local high school. that teen was discovered at montgomery high school on saturday. a resident there found him near the gym with a traumatic head injury and heavy bleeding and

cuts and bruises on his arms and his hands. the boy's identity at this point has not been released. police say he does not attend that high school but he does live nearby. >> today civil rights activists will push for felony charges against four students at san jose state. right now the four white students face misdemeanor charges. prosecutors say they tormented a african-american roommate, hanging a confederate flag in the dorm, even forcing a bike lock around his neck. the naacp calling on the d.a. to increase the charges to felonies and add a charge of false imprisonment. >> happening now, more than 1600 firefighters they are working hard to contain a late season fire, this is her to geyserville. it started friday and burned over 3300 acres. about a dozen people have been evacuated but they have so far been allowed back home.

the fire caused two injuries and destroyed a cool iingow -- a geothermoplant complex. the fire we're told is 65% contained. >> a winter storm blamed for at least 13 deaths in the southwest. it's threatening to snarl holiday travel. the storm is blanketing several states with heavy snow, rain, and high winds. more than 300 flights were canceled out of dallas international airport causing concern for 39 million americans set to travel for the thanksgiving holiday. even the nevada desert has recorded 15 inches of snow. the storm is headed for the southern and eastern parts of the country. >> makes you want to stay inside and eat a lot of turkey and pie and all that good stuff. >> might be happening. >> 4:38. good morning. >> good morning. can't wait. temperatures are chilly this

morning. we're in the low 40s in the stout bay along the peninsula. and out in the east bay upper 40s for san francisco. the north bay patchy frost. two more hours of cooling before we hit our lows. highs are going to be comfortable. we are expected to climb into the 60s this afternoon, mid-60s for the south bay, peninsula upper 60s for the east bay today and san francisco is looking good at 64 degrees. then we've got changes headed our way. a storm system, yeah, this could impact your thanksgiving day. doesn't look like it's going to impact your travel before thanksgiving but look at. this i stop the clock, thursday, 1:00 a.m. look at what's lurking offshore. all of this moisture. it's coming up from the south. not everybody will be impacted. yeah, do count on a few showers on thanksgiving day. at least south of the golden gate bridge, more details on this in a moment. let's say good morning to mike inouye. >> good morning. could be an issue. you and i will be at the turkey trot as well.

runners. we're looking at the north bay now. and traffic is running fine. we expect a lighter flow for the morning commute this week. it's midday we'll see more travel during this holiday week for some. flashing lights, but nothing reported on the chp report. i'll track that. the rest of the bay looking nice, green all around the area, on the fringe. looking at the south bay, northbound 101, smooth drive. 87 and 17 that show yellow down to 58, 59. no big deal there. the earlier slowing for 880 through fremont has cleared up so again, no incidents we saw and the sensors have recovered. we're looking for the bay breeze. an easy drive no. problems on the east shore and a crystal clear view. 580 will start slowing out of the altamont but not for 20 minutes or so. >> thanks so much. it's 4:40. still ahead an emotional day across the country. the results of a year-long investigation into the sandy

announcement to try to get more people to visit its site. for that and the rest of the news let's turn things over to kayla tausche. good morning. >> hey, good monday morning. futures are higher as the markets come off a positive week. the dow and s&p 500 posted seven weeks of gains, those at record highs. oil prices are lower today around $93 a barrel, that's as traders react to the international deal struck this weekend over iran's nuclear program. we get data on pending home sales, the dow rising 55 points to 16,065. the daz knack adding to 2392. boeing is alerting airlines to a possible engine icing problem on its 787 dreamliner and the newest 747 jet. the company is recommending planes with a certain ge engine, the nx, avoid flying near thunderstorms that may contain ice crystals. it follows six incidents with

it's clear and cold, no blanket of low clouds to trap in warmth so it's cold throughout this morning. make sure you're ready for that. we've got a pretty good looking day shaping up. temperatures comfortable once we get through with this frigid start. i want to show you where we have the highest frost potential into this morning. next couple hours. temperatures drop even more so. we expect the freezing mark this morning in sonoma, napa, 1 degree above in santa rosa and petaluma and gilroy. the windshield gets colder nan the air so you may wake up with a little frost on your windshield. later on a sunny finish with temperatures warming in the mid-60s in the south bay, peninsula and san francisco. uniform numbers today. it will be warm like santa rosa 66, the east bay good, 63 in walnut creek and 67 in pleasanton into this afternoon. then the changes arrive. high pressure starts to take a hike to the east, area of low pressure moves in and this is slated to bring us showers into

thanksgiving day. especially if you live to the south of the golden gate bridge. remember, if you are looking for the seven-day forecast we've got it at the bottom of your screen. every region across the bay area covered. back to you. >> we appreciate it. thank you. 4:48 now. there is new fallout from the deal to freeze iran's nuclear program. the agreement calling on iran to stop building nuclear reactor, reduce its uranium and kree crate less which would not leave them enough to build a nuclear weapon. in exchange the world will stop economic sanctions. in addition iran agrees to daily inspections. the deal does slow down the country's nuclear program but does not stop it. >> this agreement has made the world a much more dangerous place. it's a historic mistake. >> the burden is on iran to prove to the world that its nuclear program will be

exclusively for peaceful purposes. >> president obama insisting the deal will lead to a more comprehensive agreement over six months. lawmakers in washington are pushing the administration to have strong economic penalties ready if iran does not live up to its end of the bargain. >> 4:49. new details about the palo alto man detained in north korea more than a month. merrill newman's wife and son say they don't know if he has received his heart medication more than a month after he was detained by korean officials. his wife says her husband always had an affinity for korea and did not fear for his safety before the trip. she says he sent several post cards back and talked about how the trip was everything he hoped. about a month ago as he was getting read the fly back to the bay area he was detained by north korean officials and has not been heard from since. >> it's been hard.

yeah. a lot of strong support, but when you don't know where your husband of 56 years is, you don't know his health, you don't know when he will be home with us, it's not an easy situation. >> merrill newman was a korean war veteran. his traveling partner said newman was questioned about his military service before he was taken into custody. >> some intense and on some levels controversial results released today surrounding the deadly shooting at sandy hook elementary school in connecticut. that report comes out today at noon. it will summarize the results of the investigation but certain evidence will not be released. investigators, they released little more than search warrants so far. they have not released a timeline of their police response, mental health records for the shooter, or clues about a motive. 911 calls from the day of the shooting have also so far been withheld. >> still ahead, the niners

road for vacation so less commuters. back to you. >> from washington state to washington, d.c., a huge spruce tree traveled across the country to bring christmas to the capitol. >> this is not your average evergreen tree. the 88-foot tall engleman spruce scheduled to arrive at the west front of the capitol. this is the second tallest tree chosen for the capitol. that's mr. and mrs. klaus out in force. this is last year's tree. workers will decorate with 9,000 ornaments and 10,000 lights. you can see it from a long ways away. >> a family in australia has the tree beat. damon richards and his family set a record for having the most christmas lights on their home. that's their house. their house is covered in more than 502,000 lights. he took a week off in october
