good morning, everybody. thank you very much for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm marla tellez. president obama is now in the bay area. he landed at sfo literally in the last few minutes. we're live in san francisco where the president is set to talk about immigration. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. he is en route to our location right now. you can see here at the intersection of washington and mason where secret service has shut down this area, surrounding the recreation center. this is in chinatown. the president will be speaking here. they have allowed a small group of people into the area, so they can express their political

views to the president. some people, but not all, have been protesting this country's immigration policy, asking the government to stop its deportation of undocumented immigrants. th immigration reform is the topic of the president's speech this morning. as you just mentioned, he landed at sfo in the past 20 minutes or so for what will be a five-hour stay in the bay area. his motorcade is en route. he's trying to push congress to change the way the united states treats guests who come here. . >> we want to stop families from being broken up. we want to support the kids, that means the parents as well. >> he's deported more people than any other president in the history of this country. i think he was doing it in part to show he could be tough. really, what we need is not toughness on immigration. what we need is a solution.

>> are you still as enthusiastic about him as when you voted for him? >> i'm here this morning. >> reporter: later, the president will attend a fundraising lunch at the sf jazz center. the democratic national committee had such a hard time selling out that event that they actually had to slash the price of each ticket from $1,000 to $500 in order to generate more sales. even though sf leans heavily democratic, that's no secret, the president isn't as popular as he was during his last visit, in part because of the nsa spying scandal and the glitchy rollout of the affordable health care act's website. now, that website is certainly an issue that could come up during a tech round table discussion later this afternoon. that will include the ceo of sales force and then the president will be back on air force one for his trip south to l.a. live look inside the recreation center here in chinatown. that's the podium where the president is expected to be speaking at. we're assuming within the next half hour. it was mentioned he's en route from sfo. you figure with the drive time

and his motorcade, he could be here around maybe a quarter after 11:00. he will give his speech, again, on immigration reform before heading out to that fundraising luncheon at the sf jazz center. reporting live here in chinatown, bob rydell, nbc bay area news. >> a lot to do in just five hours. all right, bob. thank you. for all the details on the president's latest visit to the bay area, go to our website. that's nbcbayarea.com. we will be streaming the president's immigration speech live on our website as well as provide you with up to the minute traffic updates. some new details now on the oakland man who risked his own life to save somebody else's. he's just been released from the hospital. very good news there. this all happened at last night's raiders game. officials say right after the game ended, a woman ends up jumping from the third deck of the coliseum. people down below tried to scream at her to stop her. then that man on the second deck concourse tried to catch her. he was hurt and taken to the hospital. we're now reporting he has just been released.

he's been identified as a lifelong raiders fan, a 61-year-old marine veteran from stockton. >> you know, i thanked him for what he did, and he -- he said he basically didn't even think about it. he just reacted, saw her, you know, didn't want her to fall to the concrete, so he just stepped in and tried to catch her. just that simple. >> as simple as a real life hero. as far as the woman who jumped from that third deck, right now she remains hospitalized listed in critical condition. in the south bay now, today civil rights leaders will push for tougher charges against four white san jose state students accused of racially motivated hate crimes against their black roommate. today the silicon valley chapter of the naacp is spearheading a new rally at san jose state to urge the santa clara county d.a. to increase the current misdemeanor hate crime and battery charges to felonies. prosecutors say the students used racial slurs, hung a

confederate flag in their dorm, barricaded the victim in his room, and placed a u-shaped bike lock around his neck on more than one occasion. the university police report says a residential coordinator reported it was the 17-year-old victim's perspective that the lock was placed around his neck to symbolize, quote, putting the chains and locks on the black kid, end quote. the naacp also wants the d.a. to add a charge of false imprisonment. san jose state president is expected to speak as well at the noon rally. this morning a memorial is growing for a beloved east bay high school football coach killed in a crash over the weekend. the chp says 76-year-old john webb was driving northbound on 680 near fremont early saturday morning when he hit a stalled van. webb reportedly got out of his car to help direct traffic around that. that's when the chp says another car hit him and ultimately killed him. webb was heading home to brentwood after watching the san

jose state football game. the sjsu alum taught at fremont's john f. kennedy high school, even after retiring three years ago from coaching and being the athletic director. >> fanything that school needed him to do, he was activities advisor for many years, taught several subjects, pe to wood shop to math, whatever they needed him to do. >> his colleagues point out he actually had a few opportunities to coach up in the nfl, including an offer to work under 49ers coach bill walsh. his focus, he made it clear, was on student athletes. a vigil right now is being planned in his honor for tomorrow night at 6:00 outside of john f. kennedy high school. we have new details this morning about the palo alto man who's been detained in north korea for more than a month. his wife and son say they don't know if he's received his heart medication more than a month after he was detained by north

korean officials. his wife says her husband always had an affinity for korea and did not fear for his safety before he headed out on this trip. she says he sent several postcards back and talked about how the trip was everything he hoped it would be. but about a month ago as he was getting ready to fly back to the bay area, he was detained by north korean officials and has not been heard from since. >> it's been hard. we have a lot of strong support, but it's not -- when you don't know where your husband of 56 years is, you don't know of his health, when he'll be home with us. it's not an easy situation. >> bless her heart. merrill newman was a korean war veteran. he was questioned about his military service before he was taken into custody. well, iran and six world

powers this weekend reaching an interim deal over the country's nuclear program. it extends iran gradual and limited sanction relief over six months in exchange for iran's compliance with limits to its nuclear activities. nbc's ayman mohyeldin has more from london. >> reporter: now that this agreement has been reached in geneva, some are saying the real hard work will begin. >> if this step. >> first step, leads to what is our ultimate goal, which is a comprehensive agreement, that will make the world safer. >> reporter: there are two components to this one compliance and two enforcements. on one hand, you have the iranian government, which has to suspend the enrichment of some of its uranium material. it also has to allow international observers almost on a daily basis to some of those key nuclear research facilities and others across the

country. >> we need to start moving in the direction of restoring confidence, a direction that we have managed to move against in the past several years. >> reporter: in the meantime, the iranian government wants to see the $4 billion that it is promised by the international community to be released. these are $4 billion of iranian frozen assets held around the world. that's going to be released to the iranian government. they also want to see an easing of sanctions, particularly those on some of the key industries that help generate revenue for the iranian government. now, against that backdrop, there are going to be intense negotiations over the next six months to try and reach a comprehensive deal. the announcement that was made earlier in geneva is not a comprehensive deal. it is for a six-month deal. that's why there are a lot of skeptics saying this deal is not going to roll back the iranian program. it is going to be something that unfolds in the coming months, but certainly negotiations are going to be much harder this time around as both sides try to reach a comprehensive deal.

president obama to arrive. he landed at sfo within the last 45 minutes. he is headed here to give a speech on immigration reform. he will then head from here to two fundraising events in san francisco. in all, he's only here for about 5 1/2 hours. >> exactly. hitting the ground running and running out. >> whirlwind. the president is in town to raise money and drum up badly needed support. >> exactly. but scott mcgrew points out a lot of the people here in the bay area starting to lose steam and enthusiasm for the president. >> yeah, even donors reportedly shelling out $20,000 each for a tech round table may have a beef with the commander in chief this morning. the fundraiser host told "the boston globe," quote, clearly everyone in silicon valley is extremely disappointed with how the obama care website has gone. i think it will dominate the conversation. truly, people are upset and it will be an intense conversation. that's just one problem the tech

has with the formally favored president. add in the nsa debacle. mark zuckerberg yesterday said the u.s. had blown it on surveillance. google engineers got so angry at president obama, they posted on blogs with words we can't say on tv. that's not all. president obama has also backed away from comprehensive immigration reform, another pet project here. a website disaster, spying on your contributor's company, and a change in immigration reform. it's not the same president that we saw back in the early days. guys? >> all right, scott. thank you very much. right now an exclusive investigative unit report. millions of americans right now leaving the u.s. to tour other countries and get medical procedures there. even u.s. businesses and health care providers, they're considering outsourcing medical tourism as a health care option. now, we can tell you this is a big business. the critics argue, still, it can come at a cost.

some companies are now explores medical tourism as part of their coverage. dr. james robinson is a professor at the uc berkeley center for health and technology. he says while there are obvious economic benefits to medical travel, all health care is not created equal. >> the top of the market in other countries is as good as the top of the market here. the middle of the market in some of the other countries is not as good as the middle of the market here. >> tonight you can see our investigative reporter's full investigation. she traveled down to mexico to see the facilities first hand there. a black friday, or should we say black thursday, is just days away, but people in the south bay are already camping out in hopes of getting their hands on those unbeatable holiday bargains. >> they are committed. >> wow. these two bargain hunters set up their tents outside best buy in san jose this weekend to claim the first spot in line. >> congratulations. >> wow. they are doing it for the

picture of san bruno. hazy sky. it is a spare the air day. it's not going to be as frigid tonight into tomorrow morning as it was. i can tell you right now it's still going to be cold. otherwise, we're looking good. temperatures are climbing into the 50s. we've got a good looking temperature swing ahead as we head throughout this afternoon. as you know, it was a really cold start to the day. we had plenty of 30s in places like santa rosa and napa. 32 degrees in napa earlier today. we're talking about 66 degrees later on. a 35-degree jump for most of our bay area cities. this is what we're expecting as we head throughout this afternoon. mid-60s. 65 in san jose. 67 in livermore. 64 degrees in san francisco. so for today, mild and sunny. we'll see the 60s all across the board. getting into your tuesday, temperatures are going to be a little bit warmer. we'll peak tomorrow. then things change getting into wednesday. turning very cloudy, we're expecting our first showers as of wednesday night. so let's talk about that. that's the big story in the weather department.
