thank you for being with us. we have a great show tonight, but here's what people are talking about. first, let's talk about this. it's a big story right now. there's this "vanity fair" article about the white house. they say that trump's becoming unhinged. [ laughter ] he's apparently becoming unhinged. >> steve: really? >> jimmy: they said that he's recently -- he walks around the white house and he shouted, i hate everyone in the white house. [ laughter ] but later he clarified his remarks saying, "except for me. i still like me a lot." [ cheers and applause ] when i'm here -- when i'm here, i'm family. that's what he said. >> steve: that's what he said? >> jimmy: when i'm here, i'm family. >> steve: wow, the olive garden? >> jimmy: it's the olive garden slogan, yeah. [ laughter ] breadsticks? unlimited breadsticks. what are you doing? apparently, yeah, he had an outburst, and yelled, i hate everyone in the white house. like he just said it. outburst. mike pence tried to calm him down. trump said, "go way, you're not even my real dad." also, the article also said that trump, and chief of staff john kelly, have gotten into a a lot of shouting matches. [ audience oohs ] one time, trump got so angry, he punched the tiniest hole in the wall. >> steve: really? [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: that's a big deal!. ♪ >> yeah, yeah. had to do it, man. >> jimmy: did it go according to plan? did you know -- did you ever see yourself as a -- as an adult going, "oh -- oh, this is how i'm going to get engaged?" when you're young -- younger miles teller. >> well i think when i was like 15, they said write a -- it's like you're 25-years-old, where are you at? i was like, "i'm going to be married with three kids" and all this stuff. then you get to 25, you're like, "i've seen nothing." even at 30 -- you're still -- it's like -- i had a different idea of what 30 was. but you still feel pretty young. but no, i mean -- i proposed to her on an african safari. >> jimmy: how old are you now? >> 30. >> jimmy: you are 30. >> yeah. [ laughter ] first of all, hey oh! but what is the -- >> yeah, yeah. >> jimmy: how did you do this? and what is this part? >> so we had the guy, our game guide, john d. shout out to molori safari. this dude was just like -- he was awesome. but yeah, so i had him -- you do like a coffee break after you do the morning sunrise safari and i said, "all right, well we're going to be at -- tie a rose to a tree and then put this note on there, which is that note." and, yeah, so we had our coffee break and she sees the flower. she thought somebody had died. she thought it was like a -- [ light laughter ] like she thought it was like an in memoriam kind of thing. like, oh my god. and i'm just like staring. >> jimmy: you're like, "no, no. go look at this note. go look at the note." >> yeah, no. just go look at the note. >> jimmy: i don't want to get sad. i want to see elephants. >> yeah. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: let's go look at the flowers. >> yeah. yeah, basically. >> jimmy: i think it's -- but it's romantic. >> yeah. >> jimmy: it's like a date that you -- >> so then i said, write on a a note, write, our anniversary, which was may 11, 2013, and then the day it was. and i said, "well, this was the first day i asked you to be my girlfriend and today was the last day you woke up as my girlfriend."

[ cheers and applause ] yeah. >> jimmy: yes, yes. a thousand times yes! >> yeah. >> jimmy: yes. >> thank you so much -- you know, she watches "the bachelorette" and stuff. >> jimmy: who doesn't? >> she felt like she had won -- yeah, i know. honestly, i do watch all that. >> jimmy: i do. i could talk to you for three hours. >> "bachelor in paradise." like oh, that's so fun -- she thought she had won, you know, because she had a rose. she had a rose. >> jimmy: exactly. yeah. has a theme to it. >> it was like a whole thing, yeah. >> jimmy: but i don't know how you're going to top africa, man. that's going to be something. >> yeah. >> jimmy: honeymoon in space, i guess the only thing to do. [ laughter ] i got to go to space. >> yeah, well i'm -- i'm broke. >> jimmy: yeah, exactly. well, let's talk about your films. you've got two films based on a a true story and this is a -- they're really both intense. >> yeah. >> jimmy: "thank you for your that one? >> for sure. >> jimmy: man, oh man. talk about -- that -- that was a deep one. that was a tough one. >> yeah, i mean, it's -- you know, it's tough, right, because we're still in this war, and i -- it doesn't matter what you think about it, but we've been in it for 16 years. this war absolutely defines my generation, you know, and a lot of vets, you know, vietnam and

world war ii guys, it was like, don't talk about it or, you know, how the vietnam guys came back, there wasn't a ticker tape parade and you know the baby boom. it was -- they came back and they were getting accosted, you know? and so it was tough. but look we have hundreds of thousands of -- i think 500,000 from this war alone coming back with post-traumatic stress. and it's just something that's not talked about. 22 vets a day are taking their life. it's messed up, man. you know, like they're in war and then they get back and there's no reintegration program. there's no transition. it's says, "okay, we'll take your gun, we'll take your uniform, go back home, get a a job at like walmart or home depot or something, man." it's tough for them to get jobs. >> jimmy: sure. >> and they're just kind of forgotten about. like, so it's -- that's what this movie is about. >> jimmy: you -- you met the gentleman you're playing. >> yes. yeah. adam schumann. staff sergeant army. did three deployments in iraq and they were -- and these deployments themselves were like 12 to 15 months. so just imagine being over there, being -- having to be in that mindset every minute of the day for 12, 15 months, your buddy just died, maybe, and it's not like they -- you don't

have this time to grieve. it's like everyone's crying after loading up their guns to go back out there and it's tough, man. so i just really felt for this guy. a lot of my buddies are military. i have so much respect for them, regardless of what you think about -- because a lot of times soldiers are used as pawns like for this political party or as this movie propaganda. >> jimmy: no, no. >> it's not. these are our countrymen that are going out there and to me that's what that flag represents, the guy to the left of you and the guy to the right of you, regardless of how you feel about congress, and if they're helping you out. it's about, you know, the fellow man, and so -- [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: yeah, for real. >> like everybody -- yeah. as adam would say, he said, "everybody's green in the army." like, it doesn't matter, your race, religion, like nothing. and these guys, you know they're -- they're brothers. you know, brothers and sisters out there so it's -- that film's very important. yeah. >> jimmy: you did a great job. and then "only the brave." >> yeah, this is another one. >> jimmy: i don't -- i was like -- this is another one where you go, like, well, this is based on a true story. but i didn't know about -- >> yeah, it's based on a true

story. you know -- and there's a lot of wildfires going off right now in california. the guys who are out there, men and women, who are doing it they're called -- they're "hotshots." that's our top line of defense and they're the wildfire -- yeah, first line of defense for wildfire. and about five and a half years ago there was a fire in arizona where 19 of the 20 men lost their lives. they were called "the granite mountain hotshots." they were about a bunch of -- can i say bad asses? because i just did it. they were. they were a bunch of bad asses. [ laughter ] and -- and yeah. so we told -- you know, we told their story and it's -- yeah, you know, it's -- if you knew the ending or not, spoiler, but it's -- you know, a lot of the movie's just about family and brotherhood and this close-knit group and they've never been put on screen before so i just felt -- yeah, again, i felt proud to -- to represent these guys, man. they're incredible. >> jimmy: also give them credit with the respect they deserve. and they never get the spotlight shone on them. you know? >> yeah and they -- they don't want it. >> jimmy: they don't even want it. >> even soldiers, like when you say, "thank you for your service," it's like that's the beginning and an end to a a conversation. it's your way of kind of relieving any guilt. but that soldier doesn't know

what to say to it. these guys don't know what to say to it. it's in their job description. it's more like, you know, they appreciate when you say, "hey, man, welcome home." like, adam is teared up when a a guy just shook his hand and said, "welcome home." you know, so that's what it's about, these are our -- you know these are real life heroes and i know everybody -- once escaping those, you know superheroes, i've been a part of that world as well. but these are, you know, these are the men and women who are doing it, are first responders, and yeah. if you don't appreciate them, your value system's messed up. but this movie's our way of kind of -- this movie's kind of a way of bringing it to light. yeah.
