[ cheers and applause the best show, the place to be what a show tonight. let's get to some news you guys, the race for 2 2020 is heating up i saw that today president trump campaigned in iowa trump looked out over the cornfields and said, "well, i can't believe that one day all these plants will become beautiful corn dogs. [ laughter and applause american grown but trump's actually a big fan of iowa. mostly because the university of iowa's hawkeye mascot looks just like him. [ laughter and applause

but get this, while trump was in iowa, joe biden was also there at the same time very interesting usually when two guys over 70 go on the same trip, it's a a movie starring jack nicholson and morgan freeman [ laughter and applause well, before he left for iowa, trump talked to reporters about his immigration deal with mexico nobody knows the details yet, but trump claimed he had the whole deal written on a piece of paper in his pocket [ light laughter ] but he wouldn't show it to anyone watch this this is real [ laughter ] >> that's the agreement that everybody says i don't have. done, done it's done. it's all done. >> jimmy: did you guys see the nba finals last night? [ cheers and applause what a game. unbelievable athletes. golden state won it was very exciting to watch. i love watching the games, you know why drake. [ light laughter ] i like seeing -- drake is at every -- he's a big toronto raptors fan and he's very expressive he, like, yells. he gets in everyone -- he, like, hugs the coach and then he pushes the referee and stuff. i don't know what he does. but people love his facial expressions. for example, here he is at one of the games look at this yeah he's like, "ah, i'm into it! what?! yeah well we thought it'd be fun to go into our audience tonight and see how well you guys can match some of drake's expressions. [ light laughter ] it's time for "face-off: drake edition. >> jimmy: oh, yeah ♪ i'm down >> these are good. >> okay, mild. >> jimmy: that's good. you can handle spicy you can do that? >> it's not bad. >> all right, jimmy, my first question is for you, because as i understand it, a few years ago, you did a segment called "cooler heads" with james franco and there was this gag where they were supposed to take a a bucket of fake buffalo sauce and dump it over your head but because of a production mix up it ended up being real hot sauce? >> jimmy: yes. very real. >> really? [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: oh, my gosh, it was unbelievable i don't know --- that person is no longer working at the show. [ laughter ] he dumped real buffalo wing sauce all over my head and we finished the thing, and i'm like, "that was great! and then i just started feeling a tingling on my face and on my back, it went down the back of my shirt and my whole face was kind of scarred from cayenne pepper. and i took a shower in milk. >> it's always a professional liability when you are working with extremely hot sauce

>> yeah. i have to do - >> jimmy: can you give any scoop, or no >> i have to do like a few finishing things with it, but i'm just relieved. it took me four years now, to even feel at a good place with this album and it's just because i had such huge moments that happened in my life personally that - how was i going to capture that and how was i going to actually feel good about what i was saying so i just -- i kept going, and i'm relieved now [ cheers and applause >> jimmy: is there a genre that you're leaning more towards in this album of music? >> well, i think there's always going to be a sense of strong pop in my music, but i definitely explored more with electric guitar, a lot of more soulful tracks underneath things, acoustic guitar. it all kind of hits different places that i feel like is my lane for music, and just live in that world and mellow >> jimmy: you can do it all. i mean, you really nail every one, but when you perform live - i've seen you perform live so

many times - do you like doing these kind of ballad-y serious songs or talking to your fans or do you like the pop, dancing songs? >> yeah, i'd say the more emotional connection for me for sure >> jimmy: yeah >> i love everything that i get to do and be a part of, but specifically, something that connects with people on an emotional level is my favorite >> jimmy: the thing you did with julia michaels, i just personally - i loved. "anxiety," that was so great >> thank you >> jimmy: i loved it so much, i was like -- i just, i love your voice. so i was listening to that, and i love hers. and i was like, "what a good combo. >> yeah, well she's actually been my writing partner for over four years. >> jimmy: really >> she and i had our first big number one together on "good for you. >> jimmy: oh, that's right >> yeah. >> jimmy: it was just such a a perfect combo, and i just love that song so much >> thank you >> jimmy: i just want more and more of you, and i was like, "when is selena coming on? please whenever you want, and we won't do - i swear, no more "hot ones." >> yeah, okay. >> jimmy: let's talk about your movie, please. >> yeah. >> jimmy: "the dead don't die. jim jarmusch >> yeah. >> jimmy: i love that dude >> i do, too >> jimmy: he's one of the coolest directors out there. >> i know. >> jimmy: writer, directors, love him >> he's so great >> jimmy: how did he get you to do this movie? do you know him? >> no, i don't know him, but when he started to put the cast together for it, he asked if i would have coffee with him and he brought up his daughter, and we kind of just talked about how she was a fan, which was so nice, and then i got the opportunity to play it >> jimmy: what a cool dude, and what a cool cast >> yeah. >> jimmy: i mean, you got chloe sevigny, you have bill murray, adam driver how is bill? how's bill doing >> bill's great. >> jimmy: he's so fun. >> yeah, i just saw him last night. >> jimmy: you don't know what he's going to do >> no, i never know. i don't know if he's going to show up. >> jimmy: no, i have no idea >> yeah. >> jimmy: you don't really know what he's going to do. that's just the way he lives >> yeah. >> jimmy: but i saw, there's a a picture of him whispering something to you at cannes first of all, how cool was that you're at cannes that's awesome >> oh. yeah >> jimmy: everyone's like, "what is he whispering to selena what is he saying to her what is it?"

>> it wasn't even -- first off, that just kind of looks weird, but - [ laughter ] but he was just saying dumb things, like, he would just lean in and he'd be like, "you look great tonight." and then he'd look back serious, he'd be like, "where are you from?" [ laughter ] and would just like sit there, and i'm like trying to you know, be - >> jimmy: you're modeling, and yeah >> it was fine, that's what he did all the time >> jimmy: just try to make you laugh. >> in press conferences, he would like try to hit me with things >> jimmy: pass notes >> yeah, he's fun. he's a big kid >> jimmy: he's a big kid, man. the movie is funny, it is zombies, it is - it's everything you want it's a little gory, there's one scene where -- i'm not really spoiling, but at one point, kind of -- >> yeah. >> jimmy: adam driver cuts your head off >> right >> jimmy: and -- no, guys. you'll see, it's funny [ laughter ] how did they do that >> it was actually my first time really working with prosthetics, so they just -- they put this huge thing around my neck, and they added all this disgusting coloring and gooey stuff all around >> jimmy: wait, they used your real head? >> yeah. >> jimmy: i thought they used like a fake head >> no, i was there [ laughter ]

everybody has a great story to tell, and our job as producers is to help pull that story out. my name is taylor, and i am a producer for tv and podcasts. the whole production is on my surface laptop. it's very powerful, and just speeds up your whole day. i always have at least 4 or 5 programs open on my computer. i do need to be able to work everywhere. 16+ hour days are pretty common, so i need a long battery life. it feels weird to be on this side of the camera for sure.

grade, i would make my own little magazine with my friend and i remember we would draw girls in fashion, and then we would put saran wrap on top, for the glossy feel. so that it was luxury. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: the glossy feel. >> yes >> jimmy: saran wrap and then what would you do with the magazine just look at it, and look at your work? >> yeah. and then i also had a photo album that i was obsessed with, that i would just stay up all night curating and then when people would come over, i'd be like, "do you want to look at my photo albums?" and they'd be like, "no, girl. [ light laughter ] let's play barbies." >> jimmy: that sounds fun. >> but i was obsessed. and it's so funny, 'cause you know, then you go on this journey. i'm like, what should i do with my life? in college i had this, you know, college crisis like we all do at the end of college. like, what am i here for what am i going to do with my life and then i looked back, and i realized i've always been a magazine editor. you know ever since those days of playing with my little photo albums >> jimmy: yeah >> so -- but i never dreamed that someone like me could be in this kind of a position. and so, once i found myself, you know, fighting my way to have a seat at the table

and then at 29, 30, i was at the head of the table. and then i was like, you know, i've done everything i came to do in this industry. i've done more than i could have ever dreamed of as a small town girl from california. you know what? i can dream a bigger dream and writing this book is part of my next chapter and i realize, i'm ready to build my own tables. and this is my first table so, i'm really excited >> jimmy: wow, i love that [ cheers and applause >> i'm really excited about this >> jimmy: "more than enough. can you explain what that means, or what this book means >> yeah, well -- >> jimmy: what do you want people to take out of this when they read it >> well, you know, when i was working on this book, i read a a stat that said that young girls' confidence peaks at age 9. and -- >> jimmy: is that serious? >> yeah. >> jimmy: for real >> it was sort of heartbreaking to me. >> jimmy: 9 years old? >> 9 years old >> jimmy: oh, no >> and when i started to think about my journey, and the stories of all the women i know, it was actually less surprising

'cause i realized we've all kind of -- we're born into the world with so much possibility, and limitlessness, and all this confidence >> jimmy: yeah >> i certainly was when i was that fourth grader with my own magazine, and my own business in the backyard. but over time i think the world chips away at that confidence. and we're told we're not pretty enough we're not smart enough we're not sophisticated or, you know, successful enough. we're too old. we're too young. and it really limits the way we see ourselves. and it limits our ability to dream. and so what i want this book to remind young women, and women of any generation, is that you are already more than enough even if you are a work in progress no matter where you're from. no matter how big your dream is and i think women need to start telling our stories to share these tools and these gems with each other because there's too many conversations we're not having with each other. you know, we live in this age of social media, where we're scrolling each other's success stories online, but we're not telling the whole truth. so i wanted to share more of my truth in this story, hopefully

this, what you were wearing. >> i was trying to hide out. i was in a hoodie, and i was kind of in a grumpy mood and i'd come out of my house, and it's the new york city marathon so the streets are filled with people >> jimmy: thousands of people. >> thousands of people and then i think i'm incognito, right? >> jimmy: yeah >> then, all of a sudden, i hear, "elaine, elaine! and some blonde girl is waving her arms like this and she's like two feet taller than everyone else and i'm like, karlie freaking kloss? [ laughter ] like, what >> jimmy: how did you find her in the middle of the new york city marathon >> exactly >> jimmy: she was running the marathon >> she was running the marathon, just happened to be by my house in brooklyn at that very moment, that very second. and we both were like, that happened for a reason. we knew each other casually in the industry for many years. she was a model, i was an editor >> jimmy: sure >> so, we'd circulate. but then we were like, i've got to sit down with you, and so we did. we sat down, and fell in love with each other. and we were like, we have to work together. i don't know what it is. >> jimmy: does she remember that >> of course you kidding? this was like our first date we fell in love on the first date [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: running the marathon, and she sees - >> yeah, yeah. i mean, it was kismet. and then we were like, okay, we got to work together i don't know what the project

is and then seven months later i get this call, and here we are on "project runway" together >> jimmy: explain, -- 'cause i like "project runway", because you give these designers all new -- you basically set them up. you give them a great opportunity. even people that don't win, i got to be honest, because everyone's watching them >> it's so true. >> jimmy: and they're going, "oh, i like that person no matter if they win or not. >> yes >> jimmy: but the winner gets a good deal. >> a really good deal. >> jimmy: with "elle", right >> a cfda -- yeah a cdfa mentorship a feature in "elle." and look at christian siriano. his business is massive. >> jimmy: yeah, from the show. >> totally and i think what i'm most excited about with "project runway" is helping to push it into a new era and to make it a part of what's happening in the world outside of fashion and to kind of increase conversations around diversity and inclusion. i'm very proud to say, it is the most inclusive season of "project runway" ever. >> jimmy: yeah, that's right [ cheers and applause >> it's such an honor to be on it >> jimmy: that's great
