in the south bay and also going to see that continuing throughout the afternoon with near normal high temperatures reaching 78 degrees, and in morgan hill, expect a high of 82. 84 will be the high in antioch with nava reaching 82 degrees. we're at 87 degrees on saturday and watching out for fog in san francisco. >> and that's your latest forecast carson and kristen >> thanks so much. video gaming is a huge industry, a hobby for millions of people, and myself, and a source of friction in some families in fact, 65% of american adults play video games, according to common sense media kids 5 to 8 spend an average of 42 minutes on video games a day. kids 8 to 18, that jumps up to an hour and 20 minutes a day when does it become dangerous? >> that is the key question. this spring, the world health organization recognized the condition known as gaming
disorder, putting it in the same category as disorders due to substance use or addictive behavior so how do you know if someone you love is just having fun or is really having a problem we have a relationship therapist here to help us out with all of this great to see you >> good morning, guys. >> let's start off by defining terms here when do you know if someone is having fun or actually having a real problem this is something that is a definition by the world health organization. >> yeah, yeah. so if you are impaired in terms of your control, when you just can't stop, if you're prioritizing gaming over any other activity, bathing, going to work, sleeping, eating, those kinds of things, and if you continue to do it and it becomes escalated, despite the consequences, so you lose your job, relationships, things like that, that's a problem >> those are the red flags what do you do about it?
>> think about it. you do the research so you can assess what the symptoms are, right? you don't want to assume because your bandwidth might be different than someone else's. you might be able to play fortnite and go to work, but others may not be able to do that have resources handy if you can support them, be the support. you might have to do an intervention or go to therapy. >> what is the backlash from the gaming community when this came out from the world health organization >> the bottom line, it is a billion dollar industry, right the goal is to keep people playing it but you don't want people to play it so much so that they can't do anything else so that's the problem. that's the rub because it is a billion dollar industry, they want people to keep doing it. we don't want people to do it at the expense of something else, like going to work. >> we're in the middle of the summer here. carson doesn't do it yet at the expense of going to work. >> i do it on the way to work on my ipad. i play fortnite. >> during the summertime, especially, kids have a lot more
time to play games should you let them indulge in a little more game time? >> absolutely not. absolutely not. >> okay. >> i would say stay with your limitations because you don't know when you're going down the slippery slope until you're there. if you can give them a little leeway, it is time to get back to basics and go to school, and they're saying, i don't want to bathe, that's a problem. >> that's a problem. >> you don't know that if you don't give them other activities. >> without other activities, kids will play for four, five hours, and think it is summer, every kid is doing that. >> right. >> parents can be creating monsters. >> they could be create alternative, fun activities do other things with your children >> right. >> tech-free zones. >> eating. >> dinner, being in the car. >> getting outside, playing sports. >> gives you time to bond and stay engaged with your kids. >> i like that. >> if you don't do that, i say the four letter word for love with kids is time. >> i have a camera in my living room and i look, and they're on their devices. i say, guys -- it happened yesterday.
you give them a little bit, then get outside, put on music, and they washed the cars they were outside. they loved it. had a good time. >> if you have a bucket on basket at the front door, they put the devices there. pick them up when they want to. >> carson hits the nail on the head know what your kids are doing. of course, adults sometimes struggle with this, as well. >> yeah, yeah. >> important to keep track of that all right. thank you. >> good information. >> appreciate it. just ahead, who is ready to head to the beach? go to the beach, get off fortnite we'll have must-have items for the trip to the ocean, the lake, some umbrellas, waterproof cases for your phone, and a whole lot more as i mentioned, a cooler that you cannot miss. this is "today" on nbc cannot m. this is "today" on nbc.

>> so this is the beach mat. what it does, the surface is just porous enough so the sand disappears through the top. >> look at that. >> you don't have to shake the blanket throughout the day >> that is impressive. >> just rub it, and it disappears. >> every parent's dream. >> dylan has a good one. >> so this is the rinse kit pod. it is essentially a portable shower you can rinse off your feet, cooler, boogie board. >> fill it with water before you go >> you have four minutes of pressurized spray, which is all you need to clean everything up. >> is it cool, dylan >> it is getting my feet clean that works out great. >> also good for mountain bikes, cleaning anything. it is really cool. >> it makes so much sense. >> when you get in the water, the goggles of the future here custom made goggles that use face mapping technology from a company called the magic five. >> how does it do this >> it is a camera on your phone that scans your face they send comfortable goggles with a perfect seal that doesn't leak they don't cost more than $59. they're not even tight they make a perfect seal with your eye hands down, best speakers for the beach.
