right now at 11:00, rain and wind slam the bay area creating dangerous and frustrating situations for drivers. and we are just getting started. the news at 11:00 s taswidespread rain moves acrosse bay area. good evening. thanks for joining us. i'm terry mcsweeney. >> i'm anoushah rasta. we've seen on and off showers. the rain and wind are picking up. let's take a live look outside. this is walnut creek. now, the rain has made those roads pretty slick, so be careful if you're driving out there. there have already been several

spin outs. >> we begin our team coverage with rob mayeda, rob. >> it's been more of a rainstorm with 50 miles per hour, san jose airport 44 mile per hour gusts, san francisco and half moon bay 40 in terms of top wind speeds. san jose and half moon bay at 33 miles per hour. rainfall totals starting to come up now in the coastal mountains, more than an inch of rain in the santa cruz mountains. marin county hills and near windsor around the kincade fire burn scar area that's under a flash flood watch till 4:00 a.m. monday. start torg see the rain pick up. right now light rain in san jose. the majority of the heavier rain will be on the west slope of the santa tops of the north bay, the radar now starting to fill in and the story about the rain totals isn't how much is falling in this one particular hour, but the fact we could be looking at rain off and on all the way through midday monday. so these numbers will stn to stack up as we head toward the beginning of the week. coming up we'll show you the

time line on the rest of your weekend forecast and another powerful storm on the way in your seven-day forecast coming up in about 12 minutes. >> rob, thank you very much. from the roads to holiday events, this storm is having a major impact. nbc bay area's sergio quintana continues our coverage. >> reporter: one of the biggest issues for people braving the cold and rain, slick free ways. persistent downpours on northbound u.s. 101 through marin county led to major slow downs with emergency crews responding to spin outs like this one. in san francisco, strong wind gusts snapped a tree branch thas our told me sparks stag near his front door. the san francisco fire department arrived to make sure the situation is safe. some people spent some of the night by candle light at least six homes on this block of bryant were without power as pg&e crews worked on the problem. in los altos, the lights went out on the annual christmas parade there. this is video of last year's

celebration. sunday's event is canceled. the wind and rain could be too much for the electric light floats and costumes. and at s.f.o., the rain and low clouds are causing cancellation ands delays. there is a back up of flights taking off and landing. >> i just realized it's making circles to make sure they would be able to land. they could forward somewhere, bethey landed. >> reporter: the rogers family just arrived from a long vacation in maui. they're clearly not ready for the cold here. >> we haven't been outside yet, but i'm not excited for it.are holiday early. >> the crowds will probably be here tomorrow. >> reporte psengers tomorrow andelore weather issues, too. at one pointed to, s.f.o. had delays averaging about three hours. they had 60 flight cancellations and it's likely there's going to be some of those tomorrow as well. reporting live at s.f.o., i'm

sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. >> not good news for folks heading home from the holiday weekend. sergio, thank you. more traffic issues to report. 9 weather has forced road closures near a popular tourist destination. cal trans closed a section of highway 1 near big sur known as paul slide around 5:00. that's because of a threat of landslides. starting 9:00 tomorrow morning crews will close mud creek. that's the section of road that was buried by a massive landslide back in 2017. >> from the rain chp saying drivers could face significant back ups from now until monday morning. everybody coming back from thangi for all the snow potential visitors. >> forecast is calling for another 20 tonight, 10 tomorrow. that's 60 inches of snow in a week. only in tahoe you go from the lake to full-on winter. >> controhain controls now in e

vehicle right there managed to get out before an amtrak train slammed into it. this happened in union city. witnesses say the driver of the car was using a gps mapping system and i don't know what happened there, but mistakenly turned onto the tracks and got stuck. witnesses say a neighbor told the two people in the car, get out, and they did. the train slammed right into the car and pushed it 800 yards. no one hurt. they had gotten out. vehicle was removed. union pacific crews set the tracks and train traffic resumed about 9:00 tonight. >> flowers and candles now stand in the place where a fremont woman and her dog were killed last night. police say the 72-year-old woman was the victim run. tonight the coroner has identified that woman as suzanne ogie. police say just before 8:30 last night, she was walking her dog in the crosswalk at linden drive. that's when they were both hit by a car. according to witnesses, the driver stopped, walked over to the woman, but then drove away. police are now looking for the

driver who was in a light four door sedan. they say the car likely has front-end damage. people who live nearby say they are stunned the driver took off. >> i don't know what would go through a person's mind that quickly to not have human emotion of, you know, you just hit somebody. let alone do you know if they died or not. you just left them there. >> the driver's car was last seen heading north on niles toward union city. new at 11:00, the search is on for this man right here. we are told his name is christopher newton and he's 26 years old. police say he's been going into yoga studios across the bay area and stealing personal items while people are practicing yoga. according to police, back in september newton took someone's wallet and their clothing from a studio in downtown berkeley. police believe other thefts have not yet been reported. >> to politics now, the holm day weekend is almost over and presidential candidates are back on the road crisscrossing the

black friday online sales are catching up with cyber monday. shoppers broke records on black friday, spending $7.4 billion in online sales, nearly 3 billion of that coming from smartphones alone. that's a lot of money. that's the second largest internet shopping day ever right behind last year's cyber monday when shoppers spent 7.9 billion. adobe analytics said the average

across the bay and the valley. not a lot of rain. most of the rain has been hung up across the coastal mountain tabs. some rain spilling into san jose as the camera hangs on. 33 mile per hour winds in san jose. gusts at times out at the airport up to 44 miles per hour. again, that's changed flight plans all around the bay area. flights taking off north to south out of san jose. the wind speeds of mount saint helene a, 60 miles per hour. 28 miles per hour. the next eight hours, these speeds may go up slightly higher. watch half moon bay here very closely. up to 50 miles per hour, 2:00 a.m., and again as we get to about 7:30 in the gusts 53 mil. lots of purple on the map meaning gusts around 45 miles per hour in the bay area. as we go into the morning and the afternoon, wind speeds starting to come down. not enough to lose wind advisories till 3:00 a.m. monday

morning. tomorrow morning milder start. temperatures in the mid to up earn 40s. highs tomorrow will be in the upper 50s, maybe close to 60. it's trending more mild as the tropical air comes in. that's a lot of wind. now starting to see more rain here. the west slope of the santa cruz mountains, we may very well see the same radar image all the way through monday morning. that's the reason the santa cruz mountains will get the biggest rain toyota always out of the systemment we're seeing a few rain numbers moving in. the rain falls in the west slope of the santa cruz mountains, descends down, dries, the santa clara valley, then rises up again toward the west slope of the sierra where we're seeing snow and rain. this is a pattern where the mountains could see 3 to valleys see considerably less. let's look at expectations as we go through 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. lesser totals inland. another inch of rain in the santa cruz mountains, eventually we'll see more rain moving into some of the valleys as we head toward this time tomorrow night into monday morning. storm totals here, the areas in purple, the santa cruz mountains

still in range for 2 1/2 to 5 inches of rain. so hour by hour this is what it's going to look like. the heaviest rain rain falling 7:00 a.m. in the afternoon santa cruz mountains, you see the orange and red showing up in the futurecast. hu hung up over the santa cruz mountains. that will continue into monday. better news, the forecast is shifting a bit dryer now as we get into tuesday and wednesday. the system recenters offshore. wednesday the bay area not seeing much of any rain. showers to the south. thursday looks dry. here comes another windy and wet storm system for friday, and a stronger surface slope closer to the coasteans we could once again be dealing with wind and sierra snow and more travel troubles this same time next weekend. microclimate weather alert for wind, increasing rain especially in the coastal mountains as we go through the next 24 to 36 hours. and that mid week break now is starting to look a little better. tuesday, wednesday, thursday, most of the that time period is
