investigate a shooting that sent a child to the hospital. happened along 880 near 7 street in oakland. some officers got a call about the shooting right around 2:00. chp says the child was hit by a stray bullet after an exchange of gunfire. we don't know how badly that child was hurt. traffic was backed up for miles. chp did reopen all lanes about an hour ago. we're going to have a complete report tonight at 11:00. we're tracking this story for ow on-air and online. download our nbc bay area to get the latest news and weather alerts. bay area families getting their children vaccinated against covid. two clinics opened, one of them even transforming the clinic into a playland for kids. >> it's a big relief this is available now. for the jasper family it was the kids turn to roll-up their sleeves to be vaccinated against

covid. >> proud of them, yeah. bit of a struggle but when it was done they were like oh, it was nothing. so hopefully the next one will be easier. >> reporter: they came to the community based vaccination site. pfizer vaccinations are now available for 5 to 11-year-olds and today it was family friendly. >> the demand is so high. people are so, so excited to be able to get their kids vaccinated and give them more protection against the virus. so we are -- that enthusiasm is seen and encouraged. >> reporter: 80 shots were administered by appointment. it's put on in partnership with the latino task force, excelsior strong and the department of public health. >> it means they're safer. we have elderly parents in our home and we want to make sure they stay safe as well. >> reporter: he brought his kids to be vaccinated. >> to keep other people safe and make sure we keep our family safe. >> reporter: in san mateo county

they rolled out all the stops with a kid themed vaccination event in mind. the goal, helping children feel at ease. >> what we want to do here in san mateo county is to create a family fun, friendly venue. and so it's all about super heroes. it's all about red carpet. it's all about making people and families feel comfortable. the great news is we have 300 appointments today, and we're all sold out. >> reporter: in san francisco, christie smith, nbc bay area news. now that children can get vaccinated berkeley is opening up clinics in places where the children go. malcolm x. elementary school, one of the first schools in the east bay to host a vaccination clinic. it was only open for one day so hundreds of children and their parents lined up for the shot. >> i'm extremely relieved the last person in our household is

able to be vaccinated. >> berkeley will also open up one-day clinics at rosa parks elementary and sylvia méndez elementary schools and that's going to happen later this month. a u.s. appeals court has frozen president biden's vaccine mandate for companies with more than 100 employees. not complying would have meant companies could face thousands of dollars in fines per violation. republican led states filed legal challenges against that rule. that led to a freeze. the legal battle is expected to continue over the next couple of months. we're keeping track of all of it. keeping track of the led lines, too. just head to nbcbayarea.com/coronavirus. we're following developing news out of hoougsen which is reeling from a concert that went horribly wrong. eight people killed, dozens injured. when travis scott took the stage at astrow world festival about 50,000 fans were there,

and when the concert started the crowd soared toward the stage, crushing others and causing mass panic. >> they're running, they're going crazy and pushing and everything. >> emts could not get over to any people in the crowd. there was just too many people. and at some point the barricades become a hindderance. like anybody couldn't get over there. the people were trapped in the area. >> the victims range in age from just 14 to 27. another 13 victims remain in the hospital including a 10-year-old in critical condition tonight. houston police say the tragedy is also an act of criminal investigation involving the homicide and narcotics department. travis scott tweeted today he is absolutely devastated by what happened. president biden is calling last night's passage of the infrastructure bill a monumental step forward for the nation. the house passed the measure with a bipartisan vote of

228-206. the $1.2 trillion package aimed to improve the nation's infrastructure including roads, bridges and broadband access and also aims to help create jobs. he's also looking to the future urging lawmakers to find a compromise on his $1.7 trillion social spending bill. >> let me be clear, we will pass this in the house, and we'll pass it in the senate. the build back better act will be a once in a generation investment in our people. >> the build back better plan includes new social programs including four weeks of paid family leave, universal pre-k, ways to combat climate change. the president is back in delaware tonight. there's a lot packed into this bill, and governor newsom says a lot of money is coming to california. some of the highlights, $25 billion that help fix highways and bridges, $3.5 billion used to remove lead pipes and improve infrastructure to make sure californians have access to clean drinking water and also

$84 million going toward protecting the state from wildfires. climate activists flooded the streets in glasgow, scotland, for a second day of protests. the crowd was estimated at 100,000. protests took place in windy, rainy conditions as world leaders at the cop26 climate change conference debated how best to cut greenhouse gas emissions. activists are putting the pressure on leaders to take drastic action instead of just promising to tackle the issue. and tomorrow marks the beginning of the second week of the global climate conference, and we are tracking it closely. join us as we break down the major headlines from this climate summit and what it means for us here in the bay area. to take a live look outside now from our network of cameras. you see out there cloudy some spots, and that is because more rain is on the way. meteorologist rob mayeda is tracking the storm for us.

when is the first part of this storm to move in? >> we're watching two. technically one tonight that might bring a few showers. as we take a look underneath those clouds from our storm ranger from san bernardino mountains off to the west, a few sprinkles around the north bay, and i think that's probably going to be it with the storm. a lot of clouds. but the better activity with this first storm. interior northern california thunderstorms up there near reading and snow across the sierra and a few showers may come down the coast towards the north bay tonight, but our real attention is on that second storm. it does have an atmospheric river connection going for it. so we'll see at least for a time some pretty heavy rain with that next storm system. as you can see over my shoulder the future cast, there's a lot of red on the map. for the coastal mountains, east bay hills up towards the north bay, that indicates we could see 1 to 2 inches of rain with this storm, and it could come down pretty quickly especially to get

francisco gay rights leader harvey milkch it launched with great fanfare in san diego. you can't launch a ship without the smashing of a champagne bottle and she did it. the event was especially meaningful for milk it was family and for the lgbtq community. milk was forced to resign as a navy officer because he was gay. his nephew says it shows the navy has come a long way. >> we're showing the navy not only recognizes but honors those. so there's a difference between tolerance and celebration. so this navy ship send an important message to the world. >> the usns harvey millic, the ships are each planned to be named after notable civil rights leaders and activists. hundreds of people rolled up their sleeves today for vaccines in san francisco, sunset district. take a look. the event was organized specifically to reach the

neighborhood's aapi community. more than 500 people showed up to get either a booster shot, the flu shot or both. >> we want to stay ahead of the viruses. so today we have both booster shots and we have flu shots. so we want to avoid the twindemic of covid and the flu, which is coming. >> this was the second such event organized by all-american medical group and a group called self-help with elder lae. an alarming warning this afternoon. police in the east bay are urging people to be on the lookout for some kind and we're quoting here, large animal. yeah, it was spotted in dublin this morning. not sure what it was. police say it could be a coyote, could be a mountain lion. they're asking people to keep their children and any pets inside until they take care of the matter. let's talk about crabs now. recreational crab season officially started today but not like in years past. there's a state ban on crab traps to help protect migrating

humpback whales and sea turtles. though regulations didn't stop local recreational crab fishermen to head out to hot spots, some were there at midnight to celebrate the opening day. >> for lots of people we all caught crabs. we couldn't catch our limit but it was a good day, i would say. >> expect higher prices and low availability. it is that time of year again. time to do this. it's daylight savings time. come to an end. we fall back an hour, go back to standard time. daylight savings time is over. make sure you set your clocks back before you go to sleep. you get an extra hour of sleep. >> you get an extra hour. i have a 3-year-old and 7-year-old. i get no extra hour in my household. >> all right. we tried. some people get it. you don't. as for why we set our clocks

overhead tonight but if you look closely a few stray showers but try to drop through the north bay with the sunrise. we could have a few isolated showers overnight to about sunrise tomorrow morning. yes, there's a time change. sunrise you 6:42 in the morning, morning temperatures mostly in the 30s and 40s. and we'll start off with sunshine during the day and increasing high clouds. near 60 in santa rosa, so from around the north bay to the south bay a range of about 60 to 65 degrees for your sunday. also good football weather. out of santa clara cardinals versus 49ers. kick off temperatures in the mid-60s, partly cloudy sky, no rain and certainly no wind like we had two weeks ago. that storm that blew through, pretty nice football conditions in santa clara tomorrow. it'll have another surge of tropical moisture, so it's got

that atmospheric river connection going for it, moderate in strength so not quite of the same intensity or duration we saw a few weeks ago. here's an illustration of the cause and effect in terms of what you can expect when you get an atmospheric river involved with the storm. we can still see 1 to 2 inches of rain around the coastal mountains. the east bay hills, santa cruz mountain for about 9:00 monday night into early tuesday morning we'll see the rain showers possibly intense at times. monday afternoon some light rain. there's 11:00 monday night into tuesday morning. steadier rain starts to move out and skies start to clear. we'll watch the wind speeds as the cold front approaches. look at those wind gusts. it's going to be the one-two punch of heavy rain and gusty wind. but after that things quiet down. check out this extended forecast as we go through the end of the
