i'm amanda sanchez dave has the day off. let's go to lindsey matherly with a look at the forecast. above average temperatures along with light winds under high pressure will persist into early next week. mid and high clouds will stream across the region periodically. a moderate winter storm is possible for wednesday and thursday next week with gusty winds, rain and mountain snow. && .short term... periods of mid level and high clouds will continue to stream across the sierra and western nevada through the week. although high pressure will flatten this weekend it will reestablish along the west coast and keep the storm track deflected into the pacific northwest. temperatures will continue to remain above normal, but the amount of cloud cover across the region will keep temperatures new developments in the dramatic end to the armed standoff in

federal officer, obstruction, weapons charges and other crimes. a bizarre story out of ohio...where a man was shot and killed after police say he randomly attacked customers at a restaurant with a machete. "a man came in and started beating up on another man i thought it was a personal thing he just started down the row hitting everybody, people were bleeding." karen bass was a having dinner inside the nazareth mediterranean cuisine restaurant when yesterday's attack started. police say four people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. they say the attacker led them on a short chase after leaving the scene of the crime. the man was shot and killed after he reportedly tried to lunge at them with a machete in one hand and a knife in the other. the u-s coast guard is now inspecting that royal caribbean cruiseship after sailing through a massive

reserve's decision to raise interest rates in december, mortgage rates continue to slide. volatility in the markets and a global economic slowdown has pushed investors towards u-s treasuries which in turn has helped keep rates low. that romantic feeling that comes with valentine's day makes it a popular time of year for couples to tie the knot. a look at how local wedding chapels and the county clerk's office are preparing for a busy weekend. it may be almost eighty degrees in southern california but the kiddos still managed to play in the snow. love is in the air as we head into valentine's day weekend . and that romantic buzz has many couples thinking about wedding bells. as kolo 8 news now's matt vaughan explains ... it will be a busy weekend for the county clerk's office and chapels around town. the county clerks office and wedding chapels are expecting big crowds over the next few days ... especially sunday. and because of the 3 day weekend due to

could be a record- breaking year. ... what could be more romantic than getting married on a day centered around love? and in reno ... it's the most popular time of year to get married. "absolutely valentine's day is our busiest of the year. traditionally, we do 3 to 4 times the number of marriage licenses." and when valentine's day falls on a weekend it can create an even bigger boost in business ... especially if it's a holiday weekend. "i'm thinking we're going to have a really busy weekend on sunday. we've got extra staff coming in. i know one of the chapels told me they're booked solid. so i'm hoping for numbers, 100-150 would be great." "i think we're upping to do probably about 50 or 60 over this weekend." at wedding chapels like arch of reno ... they get couples making appointments well before the holiday. "generally 2 to 3 months we start booking up." despite the busy weekend ... the number of weddings at chapels in reno has seen a steady decline in recent years ... in part because of loosened restrictions in other states.

appeal to out of towners wanting to get hitched. "about 60% of our customers come from out of the general area, mostly from california, quite a few from oregon." if you plan to get marrried on valentine's day ... the county clerks office recommends that you plan ahead. "rather than waiting to get your license on valentine's day, you can come in the day before, get your marriage license and then just go straight to wherever you're having your ceremony and not worry about being late or missing your appointed time." and chapels will also be doing their part to try and keep up. confidence continues to rise. gfs/ecmwf/gem are volunteers who go above and beyond were honored at the peppermill last night. thats where 'the trauma intervention program of northern nevada' had their fifth annual awards dinner. the program started with 11 volunteers in 2009 -- now it has 32 specially trained citizens who work alongside first responders. the volunteers come at the request of emergency responders to provide emotional and practical support to survivors of tragedy. "giving transportation to the family when they have nowhere to go, buying food for them, making sure all their items are out of the house after a fire, there are so many incredible things our first responders do every day the general public does not know about, our volunteers get to see that firsthand." the trauma intervention program is always
