jeb bush will start his silver-state tour in las vegas on sunday. he then heads to reno monday where he'll hold a town hall event at huff-acre huffaker elementary school. if you'd like to go, you must register. and donald trump will speak at a rally at the nugget casino resort at noon on tuesday. doors open at 10 a.m. the event is free and open to the public... however registration is encouraged. senator ted cruz is planning at least eight campaign events in nevada. on monday, he'll rally in elko before heading to reno where he'll speak at the boys and girls club of truckee meadows at 7 p.m. he then heads to carson city on tuesday. his wife, heidi, will be in reno today speaking at the washoe republican women's luncheon. as a swing state, candidates will be making stops in nevada throughout the year. so what does it take to keep them safe when they come to town? it takes a lot of coordination among

when a candidate schedules a visit, they contact secret service who then calls the local agencies-- sometimes weeks in advance to makes sure they get proper resources. reno police along with sparks p-d, washoe county and nevada highway patrol are working around the clock to accommodate the secret service and the candidates. "tim: the secret service ranks each candidate by tier level. the higher the tier, the more security they need from local law enforcement." if you plan on attending any of the candidates' events... reno police are urging you to get there early and to bring as few belongings as possible. a silver springs man girlfriend's little boy back in 2010 is expected in court today. 23-year old cody wallace is charged with first degree murder. detectives believe wallace killed the 2- year old with blunt force trauma to his head. according to authorities, wallace had been alone with thomas when he called 9-1-1 to

thomas was taken to a reno trauma center for treatment, but later died. the carson city sheriff's office is asking for your help to find a woman who's been missing since last summer. 40-year-old deanna rebelez was released from jail last july. since her release, her family has not seen her, and don't know where she is. she's 5-foot-3 and 135 pounds. she has a visible tattoo of "june" on the right side of her neck. if you know anything about her wherabouts, you're urged to call the carson city sheriff's office. police have made an arrest in the murder of a man who was found stabbed to death in an apartment in reno. 32-year-old michael robbins is charged with open murder in the death of patrick drahos. robbins was originally arrested for driving a stolen car. during the course of the investigation... detectives got information that he was involved in the stabbing on malone avenue. when they interviewed him, detectives say robbins admitted to the murder. police are not looking for any additional suspects. ###

child neglect charges after police say he fired a gun inside a home on keogh drive. gordon mellinger was arrested early yesterday morning. police say two women and two teenage girls were inside the home at the time. after police negotiated with him, mellinger finally came out of the home. police say he has a history of mental illness. fortunately no one inside the home was injured. nevada rancher cliven bundy will remain behind bars... after a judge said he was a danger to the community and may not show up for future court dates. yesterday an oregon judge ruled bundy shouldn't be released ahead of trial because quote "that is likely the last the government will see of him." bundy's charges stem from an armed 2014 standoff with federal officials trying to round up cattle grazing illegally near his ranch nonotheast of las vegas. bundy was arrested last week when he arrived in oregon to support his sons, who are accused of leading a weekslong occupation at a national wildlife refuge. ####

frontal boundary, as of 4 am, is just off the california coast in the eastern pacific. preceding this storm, is an impressive jet with 700 mb winds around 70 mph. as this jet becomes transverse over the sierra, winds will increase this morning. mixing and downsloping conditions will allow the sierra front from just southeast of susanville through mono county to realize much of the winds present up to 700mb. gusts will increase to around 60 mph by noon with wind prone areas gusting up to 70-75 mph. high wind warnings are in effect for the sierra front. it should be noted that portions of alpine county and very southern lyon county will also have a period

we've been talking about the winds all morning long. the gusts today will give n-dot a chance to test out it's new wind alert system in just the past few weeks we've seen a few trucks roll over in washoe valley. n-dot says the rollovers happened during times when high profile vehicles were clearly prohibted. "but with this enhanced system, it just gives an extra measure. an extra opportunity for truck drivers to be able to see and know that there are potentially dangerous wind conditions through washoe valley and to re-route their travel. the warning signs run along i-580 from the south reno area all the way through washoe valley to north carson city. they are activated when

prices are sapple is firing back after a judge ordered the company to help the f-b-i in its investigation of the san bernardino terror attack. as kolo 8 news now's matt vaughan explains ... the tech giant is now caught between respecting user privacy and national security. one of the shooters, syed farook, had an i- phone, which is now locked. the f-b-i says it's likely that farook's phone has vital information about isis ... and that's why they want apple's help unlocking it. and the company's c-e-o tim cook had a pretty strong response to the court order. ... the feds want apple to create and upload code to disable the lock feature on farook's phone. but cook argues that complying with the order would entail building a backdoor to the i-phone ... which could potentially render tens of millions of devices vulnerable. in a letter written by cook ... he suggests

renewable energy than we can use. that's why governer brian sandoval has entered into an energy agreement that would benefit nevada and other states. nevada is one of the nation's leaders in renewable energy -- number two in solar and number one in geothermal. but states like california don't have enough renewable energy. the agreement is called the "governors' accord for a new energy future", and it would allow 17 states, including california, to share ideas and resources. "i think it is an opportunity to learn those best practices. it is in its beginning stages right now, but i get to have a conversation with governor of michigan, the governor of hawaii and the experts in all these different 17 states and we think there will be more governors in other states that are going to join as well. governor sandoval says the agreement will be mutually beneficial to states and ultimately the rate payers. he says he hopes it will also lead to the construction of even

. paris hilton . . . . . . . . . . 35 years old a florida teen might be in big trouble. he's being accused of practicing medicine. the teen was arrested after authorities say he was posing as a doctor at an illegal medical office he ran. the palm beach county sheriff's office says in a news release that 18- year-old malachi love- robinson is charged with practicing medicine without a license. officials say love- robinson performed a physical exam on an undercover agent and offered medical advice. you've got a lot of sites on line, all claiming that you are a doctor well, they don't claim medical doctor, as i am aware of...will

every week... erika paul.. spends her mornings doing something she was born to do.....nats..... i pretty much knew when i was 3 years of age i was going to do something with music. ... so for the past 40 years... she's made music her life. it's everything to me. i feel very blessed that i found something early in life that makes me completely happy. and now.... nats...... she's passing her love of music on to the next generation through the music 1.2.1 program... nats. supported by the sierra arts foundation... it gives kids a chance to take private lessons in piano, guitar, violin, and own school.. nat..... i just like it because it's fun....i like how it's kind of hard to get the keys right, .... nats....but if you can it sounds really good. 7 year old simon is getting his lesson before the school day starts..... my favorite thing to play.... i'm thinking.... taylor swift..... her songs are really good and she has a beautiful voice. the nice thing about these lessons is the parents don't have to spend time or money on gas to drive them to lessons. they just have to drop them off at school. so it's very conveinient for the working parent. it's so conveinent... the program is in need of more teachers to keep

since the program started, we have a core of about 10 or 15 teachers but we have schools in reno and sparks and carson city so we do need more teachers. and qualified ones too. it really is fun. there's not extra training you just have to like working with kids. kids like simon... who love music ...and have big ambitions... i do sort of want to learn the drums. just to give you an idea of how successful this program is... paul teaches about 36 students... sierra arts foundation is looking specificaly for piano, guitar, violin and vocal teachers.. for more information... head to the hot topics section
