many candidates focus their attention on washoe and clark counties. we've seen that with so many candidates making multiple stops here... and rightly so... those two counties hold the majority of the state's population. but there's a different dynamic between the caucus and the election... giving the rurals more of a voice. ... dr. eric herzik.. chair of the political science department at unr says during the general election. .... the rurals get washed out by washoe and clark counties....but they play a bigger role in a caucus... the rurals are overwhelimingly republican and have a higher voter turnout meaning more participants per capita. and it gives them a louder caucus voice. historically... democrats don't do well in the rurals... however.. dr. herzik says they can be used to a candidate's secure a party nomination.... just like 2008 in terms of the caucus, president obama rather smartly

even though the number of votes coming out of there is quite small. but you got a disproportionate weight so even though he lost the overall count it actually gave him a boost in the number of committed delegates. that's just a quirck in the democratic caucus rules. he says democrats can expect to lose the rurals during the general election.. when the caucus is done.... he says both democrats and republicans will focus their attention on getting high voter turnout in clark and washoe when it comes time to elect the next president... and a reminder... the democrats will caucus tomorrow..... the republicans... on tuesday. . ### dave and amanda....dr herzik also says this has been the strangest election he's seen with many of the standard rules not applying to certain candidates.. so that makes it hard to predict how this caucus will play out. former president bill clinton will be in reno today to campaign for hillary. he'll be at the "hillary

nevada. that's according to court documents filed in oregon where bundy was arrested last week. bundy faces charges of conspiracy related to an armed standoff with federal land managers near his ranch in nevada two years ago. officers were trying to stop bundy from illegally grazing his cattle on federal land. bundy was arrested when he flew to support his sons in a separate standoff at an oregon wildlife refuge. the search is on for a douglas county woman missing for 4 days now. 69-year-old carolyn batchelor was last seen monday night in zephyr cove. she's 5-foot-7 and weighs about 180 pounds and was wearing a long black coat. she was last seen in a honda pilot s-u-v with nevada plates h-p-2-2-9-5. if you've seen here, you're asked to call the douglas county sheriff's office. ### two men have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries at local fitness centers. 47-year-old james b-zid-zook bzd-ziuch and 25-year- old kanin see-l-streah celestre are facing several charges

use of another person's i-d. the investigation started back on january 29th when detectives got reports of items being stolen from inside people's lockers at several fitness centers. victim testimonies and surveillance videos were used to help police identify the suspects. detectives are also looking for an unknown woman who may be related to this case. anyone with information is asked to call secret witness at 322-4900. ### and this man and woman are accused of fraud and identity theft...after police say they broke into a car. reno police arrested 31-year-old matthew williams and 28-year-old julie morris at a downtown motel. police say they found personal items belonging to other people including credit cards, check books and

he will lie in repose in the great hall. his casket will arrive in just about an hour and a private ceremony will take place. the public is invited to pay respects after that. justice scalia died last weekend. there's talk that nevada governor brian sandoval, could be a supreme court justice -- and state officials aren't exactly denying it. governor sandoval was on the washington post's short list for a supreme court nominee. during nevada senator harry reid's visit to democratic headquarters in reno, he was asked about the rumor. reid said he'd rather keep his converstations with the governor private, but didn't deny the possibility. a local political expert is saying sandoval's nomination makes sense. s/prof. fred lokken/tmcc

the zika virus is affecting people all over the world ... but a question pet owners may want to know is ... can dogs and cats get it? unfortunately, the answer to this question is not clearly known at this time. some studies have shown that rodents can contract the virus but no research has been done on dogs or cats. since there's little to no information yet ... the c-d-c says that prevention is the best method. natural pet insect repellents can be used while your pets are outside. also, remember to remove all standing water from the outside of your home to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs. one dog owner from illinois is giving thanks this morning... the disappearing act his dog - 'houdini' pulled and how rescue crews were able to get him back home.
