lanes across the span of the golden gate bridge. no major issues out there right now. in fact, we're pretty problem- free. we have a little bit of ongoing roadwork on some of our bridges including the bay bridge and the dumbarton bridge. so we'll tell you where that's at, if it's causing delays coming up. back to you. >> thank you. a vallejo man who passengers say tried to storm the cockpit a flight appears in court this morning. sharon chin is in san francisco where the case is being heard in federal court in just a few hours. sharon, good morning. reporter: good morning. the suspect expected to go before a u.s. magistrate at 9:30 this morning. meantime, we are hearing more about what happened on the plane. san francisco police arrested 28-year-old rageit almurisi sunday night. flight attendants got help from a retired police officer and retired secret service agent. they tackled and handcuffed him after they say he repeatedly screamed and pounded on the cockpit door. passenger andrew wei snapped these pictures and took note of

the suspect on the chicago flight bound for sfo. >> and i noticed this guy in the very last row sort of fidgety a little bit not really comfortable and didn't know if he was sort of he belonged there. >> reporter: federal agents are trying to establish motive. almurisi has a yemeni passport and california id card. they say he has no known ties to terrorism. his cousin from vallejo says it was all a big misunderstanding. >> i really can't say what he was thinking at the time but i know he is not a terrorist, for sure. >> reporter: his cousin tells cbs 5 that almurisi was a math teacher in his native yemen but now lives in vallejo. but he was having trouble finding a job after being in the u.s. a year and a half. now, this morning, almurisi will make his first court appearance on charges of interfering with a flight crew. if convicted he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

sydnie. >> sharon, thank you. sharon chin in san francisco. a stash of shocking photographs found in the home of a suspected serial killer. sources tell the "contra costa times" investigators at joseph naso's home found more than 4,000 photographs of women who were naked or wearing lingerie. the 77-year-old reno man is charged with killing four women in northern california. investigators think that he took those photos himself. 5:02. another milestone today in san bruno. eight months after that deadly pipeline explosion, this afternoon first groundbreaking ceremony will be held on the site of a home destroyed by the september blast. the hence of family recently got the first per mystery to rebuild. construction work on the fairmont drive property is expected to begin next month and could take a year complete. state regulators are calling upon pg&e to provide more proof that the rest of its natural gas pipeline are not dangerous. public utilities commission just told pg&e it needs to

provide safety documents for most of its 5700 miles pipeline. the utility has been slow to comply with an earlier order for documents on 1800 miles of pipeline. and from memphis this morning a big sigh of relief. forecasters say the mississippi river is as high as it's going to get peaking at near record levels forcing hundreds of people from their homes of. but experts trust those levees will hold and will protect -- you know, the landmarks like graceland and beale street so now attention is shifting downstream to louisiana and the delta. >> now it's coming and there is not much you can do about it? >> no. all they can do is just be prepared to evacuate. >> sandbags. >> and get things to higher ground. >> and pray a little bit. hopefully it's crested and all done. 5:03. good day to play hooky. thursday and friday. you will see by saturday and sunday those clouds and showers are back into the picture. temperatures dropping significantly. the warmest spots only in the mid-60s and monday keeping a chance of showers in the picture. that's a look at weather. let's check traffic with elizabeth. >> out live towards the benicia bridge fine on southbound 680 towards martinez. here's a live look at traffic moving just fine across the span. still have this roadwork on eastbound 4. one lane is blocked through pittsburg until 6:00 this morning. no delay. last week that wraps up by 5:30 or so. dumbarton bridge we still have some roadwork there on eastbound 84 approaching the high-rise various lanes blocked. again until about 6:00 this morning. and the bay bridge more roadwork to tell you about this time on the lower deck of the bridge towards treasure island various lanes blocked until 6:00 this morning. so that's when most of it is wrapping up but in the

meantime, right now, no delay heading into san francisco and if you want to use mass transit bart is on time with now 33 trains all on schedule. that's your traffic and weather. back. >> thank you. 5:06. gadgets attract your every move and there are growing privacy concerns. today congress will demand answers from two of the silicon valley's high-tech giants. kiet do is at apple headquarters down in cupertino joins us now with more. reporter: good morning. a senate panel will be questioning executives from google and apple today about reports that your iphone and android devices and tablet computers are tracking your locations and your whereabouts but both companies are expected to be defending themselves by saying that they're not spying on the customers. they're actually serving them by helping them find things like coffee shops and gas station. apple made headlines last month when researchers discovered the iphone and ipad stored up to a year's worth of data about

users' location. apple went into damage control mode admitting they store wi-fi locations and that they were developing upcoming services. but they blamed the data collection on a software bug. last week apple released an update that limits the amount of data their devices store. >> i don't agree with it. i don't think they need to know where we are at all times. >> i don't care. >> reporter: yesterday, representative mark bono mac of palm springs released a letter written by apple lawyers which says consumers are increasingly demanding accurate location information from their hand- held devices and it's not just the devices that they will be asking about today. congress will also be questioning about third party apps and why they are storing location data, as well. frank? >> big brother is watching. okay, kiet do live in cupertino, thank you. time now is 5:07. getting into the mind of bin laden. why the u.s. could be a step closer to questioning that terrorist's wives.

couple for more than two decades. they released a statement last night where they essentially announced their split and this followed weeks of speculation that maria shriver had moved out of their home here in brentwood and they were moving on and trying to assess their life. their statement in part reads, this has been a great personal and professional transition for each of us. after a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. they say they are living apart. they just recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in april. they were married in 1986 and this was after they met in 1977 and they actually met at a charity tennis tournament at eunice kennedy shriver's home. they were introduced by tom brokaw, as you know, the former anchor of nbc nightly news and they had quite the story book romance and the storybook life that many people had been following in the tabloids and, of course, here in california. now, unfortunately, their relationship is going through quite a tough time.

>> who is now living in the home? where is maria living now? >> reporter: no idea. this is where the couple has lived through the duration of his gubernatorial term. it was even something that during the last election in 2008 he joked about that on the exterior of their home they had not only a campaign sign for obama but also a campaign sign for the mccains because famously, you know, she is a daughter of the kennedy family and he is a republican. so it was kind of a marriage of opposites. but yeah, at this point, we don't really know. that's something we night spend the morning trying to track down and trying to figure out. but they did say very clearly that neither they -- they won't be speaking about this. their family and friends won't be talking about this and they are hoping the media will leave them alone. >> they did say that they still

memoir. the book, a stolen life, tells of her abduction when she was 11. the years she spent with her kidnappers and how she feels since she has been rescued. it goes on sale in july. it was a gorgeous day yesterday. it's going to be even prettier tase. probably 5 degrees warmer in some spots. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. a little patchy fog at the coast is going to shape up nicely this afternoon. plenty of sunshine, high 70s inland. 60s around the bay and at the coast a little cooler because of those sea breezes and patchy fog this afternoon. but overall, a gorgeous day. that's because that high pressure is temporarily building in bringing us that warmer weather but you will see the low that's going to be dropping in bringing us cooler conditions and actually bringing us some wet weather later on in the week. 69 the high in san mateo and 60

at pacifica so cooler at the coast because of those breezes. 73 for san ramon and 73 in danville. brentwood topping out at 77 today and 75 the high in concord. up to the north bay. 75 in sonoma. your extended forecast showing that beautiful weather today but then tomorrow we drop down pretty significantly in temperatures. clouds are back into the picture and then we'll see even more of a cooling trend for thursday and friday. thigh chance of showers back into the picture starting late saturday through sunday. and showers for monday. that's a look at your weather. let's go to elizabeth with traffic. sunnyvale new accident coming in minor injuries involved in this crash. but it sounds like a vehicle accident ran off the road. southbound 101 right there near the lawrence expressway. it is off to the right shoulder. so it's not causing any major delays. but something to watch out for

if you are passing through that scene. bay bridge all the approaches look great. westbound traffic fine no delay at all as you approach the pay gates. metering lights are off. there is still roadwork on the lower deck various lanes blocked blocked again until 6:00 this morning. giants game later on tonight. giants play at 7:15 at at&t park. delays on the embarcadero both fine heading into san francisco. walnut creek, 24/680 interchange, things moving really well through the san ramon valley. no problems on southbound 680. westbound 24 delay-free towards arinda and the caldecott tunnel. there was roadwork on 880 near the coliseum. that's picked up and top speeds through the stretch.

that's your traffic. back to you. in 90 minutes nurses will go back to work at children's hospital oakland. they went on strike for five days to protest proposed changes in their health benefits. the "chronicle" reports hospital officials say about 30% of the unionized nurses crossed the picket line but the union says it was only about 5%. those nurses have been without a contract since last july. about 65 students and teachers arrested while protesting budget cuts at the state capital yesterday. they had refused to leave the building after it closed last night that according to the "sacramento bee." the day-long sit-in attracted about 1,000 people. this afternoon, teachers plan to grade papered at malls across the bay area. to draw attention to how hard they work after school. >> we have breaking news at this hour in the tech world. just minutes ago, microsoft confirmed it will buy the

good morning. it's tuesday, may 10. good to have you on board. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm sydnie kohara. thank you for joining us. it is 5:30. up and at 'em! let's take a look at traffic and weather before you head out the door this morning. and kristy says -- frank says it's a good day to play hookey kristy says it's going to be a nice day. maybe you shouldn't play hooky. >> we don't want to get new trouble for taking the day off but it is going to be a gorgeous day today, 5 degrees warmer in some spots than yesterday. plenty of sunshine today. the city will top out at 65, oakland at 6? >> san jose at 72, concord at 75 but this warm weather will be out the door soon. i'll tell you more about that in a bit. but first a check on driving conditions with elizabeth. >> first word of a power outage in san francisco. and the street lights are out on stretches of van ness and franklin. so this is affecting several neighborhoods in and around the city including russian hill, cow hollow and nob hill so treat those intersections as a four-way stop. we'll have more traffic coming up in just a bit.

back to you guys. >> thank you. his family says the man accused of trying to break into the cockpit of a flight to sfo is not a terrorist. this morning, that vallejo man has a date in federal court. sharon chin is live in san francisco now with more. good morning, sharon. >> reporter: good morning. the suspect due to go before a u.s. magistrate at 9:30 here in front of the federal courthouse. he will hear the charge against him of interfering with a flight crew and if convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. san francisco police arrested 28-year-old rageit almurisi on sunday night. the chief flight attendant told authorities he repeatedly pounded on the cockpit door during the flight bound for sfo. two retired law enforcement officers on the plane helped the flight crew wrestle him to the floor. passenger andrew wei took these pictures and witnessed the drama. >> once they tackled him down we saw him cuff him in the back with handcuffs and at that moment we erupted in applause and the second applause when the plane actually landed.

wife's. a source tells the "associated press" pakistan has granted the united states access to those women but so far, there is no official confirmation. the women have been in pakistani custody ever since the raid that took down bin laden. the white house hopes the women can provide intimate details about the terrorist's activities while in hiding. arnold schwarzenegger and his wife maria shriver have separated. according to the "los angeles times," shriver has already moved out of their brentwood mansion. last month was their 25th wedding anniversary. they have four children together. in a joint statement, the couple says, this has been a time great personal and professional transition for each ofafter a great deal of thought, reflection and discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together." us. this morning east bay regional park police are still on a regional trail where a man was shot about 11:30 last night. the victim was taken to the

plenty of sunshine the story for today in the bay area. beautiful skies yesterday today, clear and more sunshine and a nice start out the door, clear conditions in the 40s and 50s throughout most of the bay area. a little bit of patchy fog at the coastline. by this afternoon, we are going to warm up nicely flirting with the 80s in those inland spots along the bay shores going to see some high 60s mostly sunny in both locations at the coast those sea breezes will keep temperatures a little bit cooler and we'll continue to see some patchy fog there, as well. satellite showing us an area of high pressure that's temporarily built in. and that's going to keep us warm for today as we see this area of low pressure drop in. that's when we'll start to cool down over the next several days and we'll look at that on the extended forecast. neighborhood by neighborhood here's a look at your highs. 71 the high today in mountain

the bay bridge. it's early so it's not causing major delays now heading into san francisco. here's a live look at traffic approach the bay bridge toll plaza. again that stalled motorcycle is blocking one lane. pg&e still trying to work on this power outage in san francisco. sounds like most of the power has been restored but we are going to launch chopper 5 out there just to kind of see how bad it really s we are hearing stretches of van ness and franklin street the street lights are out so watch out for that. you will have to use some intersections as a four-way stop. right now hearing about 100 customers still without power. most of those are in the packed heights area and they hope to have power back on in 15 minutes according to pg&e. antioch bridge no issues across the deck. highway 4 a little bit of slow traffic through antioch. just your usual stuff there. your usual stuff coming out of the altamont pass. 15 minutes there so just a few brake lights out towards 680 and the dub did you but nothing unusual there. mow major delays.

[ chanting ] about 65 students and teachers protesting at the capital yesterday all hauled away in handcuffs. the "sacramento bee" reports they refused to leave the building after it closed. day-long sit-in attracted about 1,000 people. teachers want lawmakers to pass a tax extension to help fund education. nurses strike at children's hospital oakland scheduled to end in about an hour from now. the nurses went on a five-day strike to protect proposed changes to their health benefits. nurses have been without a contract since last july with no new talks scheduled. 125 replacement workers helped keep the hospital working during the strike. 5:48. ford may expand a recall involving f-150s. last month more than a million trucks were recalled due to airbag problems. now the company is looking into

past hour, microsoft confirmed we have big news for the tech world to share with you. just within the past hour, microsoft confirmed it is buying skype. the internet phone service. it is an 8.5 billion dollars cash deal biggest transaction in microsoft's 36-year history. skype has 663 million users. the deal could help make microsoft a bigger player on the internet. and facebook may have to come clean. they might have clean house, in fact and kick off millions of their users. the new survey finds that more than 7 million facebook users are under the age of 13. that's violating the terms of service.
