the suspect on the chicago flight bound for sfo. >> and i noticed this guy in the very last row sort of fidgety a little bit not really comfortable and didn't know if he was sort of he belonged there. >> reporter: federal agents are trying to establish motive. almurisi has a yemeni passport and california id card. they say he has no known ties to terrorism. his cousin from vallejo says it was all a big misunderstanding. >> i really can't say what he was thinking at the time but i know he is not a terrorist, for sure. >> reporter: his cousin tells cbs 5 that almurisi was a math teacher in his native yemen but now lives in vallejo. but he was having trouble finding a job after being in the u.s. a year and a half. now, this morning, almurisi will make his first court appearance on charges of interfering with a flight crew. if convicted he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

provide safety documents for most of its 5700 miles pipeline. the utility has been slow to comply with an earlier order for documents on 1800 miles of pipeline. and from memphis this morning a big sigh of relief. forecasters say the mississippi river is as high as it's going to get peaking at near record levels forcing hundreds of people from their homes of. but experts trust those levees will hold and will protect -- you know, the landmarks like graceland and beale street so now attention is shifting downstream to louisiana and the delta. >> now it's coming and there is not much you can do about it? >> no. all they can do is just be prepared to evacuate. >> sandbags. >> and get things to higher ground. >> and pray a little bit. hopefully it's crested and all done. 5:03. good day to play hooky. back to you guys. >> thank you. his family says the man accused of trying to break into the cockpit of a flight to sfo is not a terrorist. this morning, that vallejo man has a date in federal court. sharon chin is live in san francisco now with more. good morning, sharon. >> reporter: good morning. the suspect due to go before a u.s. magistrate at 9:30 here in front of the federal courthouse. he will hear the charge against him of interfering with a flight crew and if convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. san francisco police arrested 28-year-old rageit almurisi on sunday night. the chief flight attendant told authorities he repeatedly pounded on the cockpit door during the flight bound for sfo. two retired law enforcement officers on the plane helped the flight crew wrestle him to the floor. passenger andrew wei took these pictures and witnessed the drama. >> once they tackled him down we saw him cuff him in the back with handcuffs and at that moment we erupted in applause and the second applause when the plane actually landed.

plenty of sunshine the story for today in the bay area. beautiful skies yesterday today, clear and more sunshine and a nice start out the door, clear conditions in the 40s and 50s throughout most of the bay area. a little bit of patchy fog at the coastline. by this afternoon, we are going to warm up nicely flirting with the 80s in those inland spots along the bay shores going to see some high 60s mostly sunny in both locations at the coast those sea breezes will keep temperatures a little bit cooler and we'll continue to see some patchy fog there, as well. satellite showing us an area of high pressure that's temporarily built in. and that's going to keep us warm for today as we see this area of low pressure drop in. that's when we'll start to cool down over the next several days and we'll look at that on the extended forecast. neighborhood by neighborhood here's a look at your highs. 71 the high today in mountain

view, los altos, 72 cupertino. 69 san mateo. 69 union city. east bay 74 for a high in walnut creek, 75 pleasant hill, 73 the high in danville and san ramon, 65 in alameda and 68 in berkeley. up to the north bay seeing similar temperatures here. 68 for mill valley, 65 the high in the city, warmer as we make our way north 77 in fairfield. 75 for sonoma. also 75 in napa today. so plenty of sunshine is the story today and then tomorrow we see those clouds roll back in and we start to cool down for thursday and friday. by the time we hit saturday dropping into the mid-60s in our warmest spots. cloud cover and showers reentering the forecast starting later on, on saturday continuing into sunday and keeping that chance of rain in the forecast for monday. that's a look at weather. let's go to elizabeth with a look at traffic. >> reporter: thank you, kristy. we have had a pretty quiet start to our morning commute so far. 5:44 a.m. and what we have going on now is a stall on the upper deck of

the bay bridge. it's early so it's not causing major delays now heading into san francisco. here's a live look at traffic approach the bay bridge toll plaza. again that stalled motorcycle is blocking one lane. pg&e still trying to work on this power outage in san francisco. sounds like most of the power has been restored but we are going to launch chopper 5 out there just to kind of see how bad it really s we are hearing stretches of van ness and franklin street the street lights are out so watch out for that. you will have to use some intersections as a four-way stop. right now hearing about 100 customers still without power. most of those are in the packed heights area and they hope to have power back on in 15 minutes according to pg&e. antioch bridge no issues across the deck. highway 4 a little bit of slow traffic through antioch. just your usual stuff there. your usual stuff coming out of the altamont pass. 15 minutes there so just a few brake lights out towards 680 and the dub did you but nothing unusual there. mow major delays.

coming school year. but it's a possibility as the system's fiscal crisis continues. [ chanting ] about 65 students and teachers protesting at the capital yesterday all hauled away in handcuffs. the "sacramento bee" reports they refused to leave the building after it closed. day-long sit-in attracted about 1,000 people. teachers want lawmakers to pass a tax extension to help fund education. nurses strike at children's hospital oakland scheduled to end in about an hour from now. the nurses went on a five-day strike to protect proposed changes to their health benefits. nurses have been without a contract since last july with no new talks scheduled. 125 replacement workers helped keep the hospital working during the strike. 5:48. ford may expand a recall involving f-150s. last month more than a million trucks were recalled due to airbag problems. now the company is looking into

past hour, microsoft confirmed we have big news for the tech world to share with you. just within the past hour, microsoft confirmed it is buying skype. the internet phone service. it is an 8.5 billion dollars cash deal biggest transaction in microsoft's 36-year history. skype has 663 million users. the deal could help make microsoft a bigger player on the internet. and facebook may have to come clean. they might have clean house, in fact and kick off millions of their users. the new survey finds that more than 7 million facebook users are under the age of 13. that's violating the terms of service.

among the minors, more than 5 million are 10 years old or younger! consumer reports found the kids' facebook accounts were largely unsupervised by parents exposing them to malware threats, predators and bullis. >> kids are incrediblely tech savvy these days. there is a debate in san francisco on whether the castro neighborhood is losing its identity. that area has long been a gathering place for gay people but more and more straight residents are moving into the area and several gay businesses have been closing. >> it's like saying that, you know, gay street and [ indiscernible ] street in new york should change. and i think it's important that the gay people have a place to call home. >> i think being integrated and having a diverse neighborhood is more important than having a few blocks of party playground. >> some say there is more acceptance of gay people these days so there is less need for

segregation. the world's best known restaurant is getting a supersized makeover. mcdonald's hoping to redecorate most of its 14,000 u.s. locations. the company replacing fiberglass tables and steel chairs with wooden tables and comfy leather chairs. the color schemes are changing, as well. you can expect muted orange, yellows, even some green. mcdonald's wants to make the restaurants feel more comfortable so customers are likely to hang out when they're done eating. but what about your 2-year-old who squirts ketchup all over those chairs? >> you got to on my laptop! get that kid out of here. >> how are you going to clean the chairs a tables? >> not kid-friendly. >> go to starbucks.

elizabeth, what's going on in traffic? in the traffic world we have a new accident reported westbound 580 at north livermore avenue and causing some slowing just behind it. it sounds like one lane is blocked. your drive time still hovering around 16 minutes coming out of the altamont pass. but it's going to be slow in stretches from 205 all the way out towards, well, it looks like once you hit about -- once you make your way through livermore, speeds improve according to our live traffic sensors? >> the central freeway, everything is looking good now into and out of san francisco. 101, 280 both moving fine. and mass transit continues to be on time and same thing here's a lovely picture of the golden gate bridge. everything looks great out of marin. >> no traffic, either. >> no. couple cars. >> somebody listened to frank, right? >> playing hooky now.
