"l.a. times" reports he fathered a secret child with a household staffer some 10 years ago. sharon chin on how he broke the news to his wife joins us live in san francisco. sharon, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. after left the governor's office, arnold schwarzenegger apparently admitted to his wife that he had fathered this love child and it was before his first run for office. according to the l.a. times, schwarzenegger told his wife, maria that he had fathered the child more than a decade before with a long-time member of their household staff. the staff member retired in january and received severance and left on good terms. an unnamed source says the former governor had been supporting the child financially from the start. schwarzenegger said in a written statement to the times, i understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. there are no excuses and i take full responsibility for the

hurt i have caused. i have apologized to maria, my children and my family. i am truly sorry. >> reporter: last week they announced they separated after 25 years of marriage and shriver moved out of their brentwood mansion earlier this year. >> i'd like to hear from other people who are in transition. how did you find your transition, personal, professional, emotional, spiritual, financial, how did you get through it? >> the former governor has suggested that they were working toward reconciliation. but shriver's friends say that she had been unhappy for years. she was waiting until after her parents died and schwarzenegger left the governor's office to leave. a spokesman for shriver had no comment. >> certainly have to feel for maria, who is in a tough situation there. >> reporter: and the family and the children. >> and the child that is caught in the middle of all this. you know? you can imagine the l.a. paparazzi that's out looking for this woman and that young child who is what, 10 years old

mercury news," back in 1995 there were 30 cases nationwide. 10 years later in 2005 there were 2,000 cases. last year 29 cases were filed in federal court in the bay area alone. this weekend's conference sun precedented. look at some of the seminars. craigslist undercover operations, facebook child safety, beyond google hack, ios seizure and analysis, linux and browser and gps interrogation. this is only available to law enforcement agents and the u.s. attorney general will speak on thursday. >> thank you, kiet do in san jose. if you were planning to go over the bay bridge memorial day weekend, expect some delays. eastbound drivers will have to take a detour near the toll plaza in oakland. it will speed up construction of the oakland touchdown allowing it to be completed ahead of schedule. a few hours, bridge officials plan to provide details of the detour and we'll have an update

there is more unseeablably cool and wet weather today more showers later on, already seeing sprinkles and temperatures making only to the low 60s. we'll have the full forecast coming up. thank you. 5:10. today doctors at san francisco general hospital expect to have a better idea of bryan stow's condition nearly seven weeks after he was attacked outside dodger stadium. last night more than 100 bowlers gathered for a benefit in stow's hometown of santa cruz. this morning, l.a. police will talk about putting up some 300 billboards to try to catch bryan stow's attackers. stow was transferred to san francisco general yesterday after being flown from l.a. his colleagues from american medical response took him from the airport to the hospital. he is now closer to his family in santa clara county.

san francisco general has a national reputation for its expertise in treating brain injuries. >> basically, at least imaging for to us review. there is a very large pile of medical records which we will leave no stone unturned. >> we don't know how long he will be in the icu at sf general but at some point he will be transferred to a long- term care facility for his rehab. >> stow has made some progress but he remains unconscious and in critical condition. oakland city council members holding a key vote tonight on money for gang injunctions. a move against 40 defendants in the fruitvale district is awaiting a judge's decision. a separate injunction which is like a restraining order to restrict the criminal organization's ability to plan or commit more crimes is already in place against 15 others in north oakland. now the city council will take a stand by voting on whether the city attorney or the police department can spend any more money on enforcing the two

the fruitvale district is awaiting a judge's decision. a separate injunction is already in place in north oakland and now the city council will decide whether the city attorney or police department can spend any more money enforcing the new injunctions. oakland police looking for suspects connected to the largest identification theft operation in the city's history. they'srd 40-year-old michelle williams. she starts with 20 counts ranging from forgery to grand theft. police confiscated machines built to print fake checks, credit cards, social security cards. they say williams ran the operation out of her apartment in hayward. new signs that pg&e spent less money than it was supposed to on replacing aging pipelines. congresswoman jackie speier has information that they underspent by $183 between 1987 and 1999. they had a plan to collect more money from customers but now
