>> this is kpix5 news. >> talk about a flight from hell. it took three planes and more than 12 hours before these passengers even took off. >> at oakland international tonight with a story you will only see on kpix5 5. juliette goodrich? >> reporter: customers were so fed up on board their flight, they contacted kpix5 and sent us video statements while they were stuck on their flight. they had to be on three different flights because of mechanic problems today.
flight 1032 was supposed to go to provo, utah. but then they had to board another plane. a plane to las vegas was too overheated to fly. they boarded a third plane from mesa. they sat on the runway only to return to the terminal because of fuel problems. they were stuck on the tarmac at oakland international airport. >> i have been imprisoned by athis place for five hours. >> are you going to play allegiance? >> never again. >> never going to go this airline again. i have been at the airport since 6:00 this morning. i am so fed up with this airport. >> cruel and unusual punishment.
people are so upset. 12 hour ins the airport. >> reporter: now to knight, we did reach out to ali gent allegiance, they responded and said the flight left tonight and it is now in utah. it did in fact land. and i can tell you those passengers were offered a $75 flight credit to their next flight and many of them said they would not do it. reporting live, juliette goodrich, kpix5 5. a mustang plowed through a bedroom in hayward. a man was watching tv, and then a car was next to him. andria borba has the story. >> reporter: plaster on the ground, and the license plate of the car that turned this into what looked like a movie
caper. it is never a good day when there is a ford mustang sized hole in your bedroom, but it could have been a lot worse. gonzalez was home in his bedroom watching mission impossible 2 around 3:00 when he heard something on jackson street. gonzalez was on the receiving end of a very tom cruise-like moment. >> bang, smash. >> reporter: then out popped a driver who made the turn from winton to jackson a little too quickly. he told gonzalez this. >> my car is totaled. >> reporter: kind of like gonzalez's house. neighbor enrique came home to fire engines and red tape reading keep out. eight other people are looking for a place to stay tonight.
the building is not safe. but for gonzalez who was inches away from being run over by the car, the pain of having a hole in his bedroom is overshadowed by this feeling. >> very lucky. [ laughter ] >> reporter: in hayward, andria borba, kpix5. >> well the fire marshall says the house will be uninhabitable for the next few days until repairs can be made. right now in the sierra, they are getting a taste of winter. snow is coming down, more than a foot has fallen at the highest elevations. ian scharz is in placer county. >> reporter: sub freezing temperatures and snow are reminding drivers that winter is not far off. weeks of sun and warmth took a backseat to freezing temperature ins the snow in the sierra today. snow guns are roaring and scenes like this make snow
junkies like jason smith salivate. not everyone welcomed the winter blast, though, traffic game to a crawl as people were forced to put on their chains. this driver slid off the road into a tree but was not injured. the surprise snow for some always means a busy night for wrecks. >> i'm sure there will be more before it is all over with. people need to go slow. >> reporter: if you have any travel plans on i-80 tonight, bring your chains. chain control is up. in the sierra, ian schartz, kpix5. >> and it is still snowing up there. kpix5 high definition doppler. look at that. additional snowfall all the way until 10:00 tomorrow morning above 5,000 feet. our radar is picking up a few showers to the south and west of san jose as well.
we are seeing a few showers. otherwise, we dry and we are chilly. on the western flank of that big low pressure area gave us all the wind yesterday. now it is not about the wind, but about the cold. coming up in weather, we will talk about how cold we will get. >> thank you paul. santa rosa is preparing for that is expect today be the largest protest yet following the killing of a 13-year-old boy by a sheriff's deputy. joe vasquez has more. joe? >> reporter: liz, right now in the moment, he is known as the deputy who shot down a 13-year- old boy here on the sidewalk, but there is more to his career, he is a long time member of the sheriff's department. 24 years, a military veteran and he recently won a medal of
valor. as sonoma county prepared for this, andy lopez pointed a toy gun at gailhouse. he feels terrible. >> it is a horrible tragedy for all involved. >> reporter: but here at the neighborhood memorial where people have gathered for six night ins a row, there is no sympathy for the deputy. >> what do you feel toward the deputy? >> i'm mad. i'm just, it sucks to lose one of my friends. >> reporter: the deputy has been a prolific contributor to gun websites. a veteran of the war in iraq, he was commissioned to write an article in swat magazine in
2008, describing the mind set you need to have to survive an ambush. he went onto talk about the nano seconds that felt like minutes as he thought about his children and spouse. joe vasquez, kpix5. >> andy lopez is the youngest person ever to die in an officer involved shooting in sonoma county. this is the booking photo of a woman who struck and killed a couple out for a walk in menlow park last week. the couple was walking their car along chilco street. she has a prior drunk driving condition and is now facing manslaughter and felony dui charges. celebrity chef guy fieri took the stand for the stolen

confirmed it was google to came to him. >> when google came to us, they were less than specific about ha they were going to do with the vessel. >> reporter: meanwhile, the secret project remains docked at treasure island. they insist they need more specifics and the agency is skep cool the project has to be on the water. >> we shouldn't use the bay as a lost opportunity for that which can be done on land. because the bay is special. and we need to ensure that whatever this permit is applied for actually fits into what the bay should be used for. >> reporter: well placed sources have told kpix5 google's plan is to use it for google glass, the wearable computer that looks like half a pair of eyeglasses. it would be their way of outdoing apple's signature retail stores and they would
start by towing the barge at treasure island and docking it at fort mason. one way for them to fulfill their requirement if fort mason is not the only place they dock the barge. it is not meant just to float, but be towed. but larry goldsman says it is not that simple. there is speculation if they only keep it 30 days at fort mason, 30 days to oakland, they are not keeping it in any one spot and it is a unique water only purpose, they couldn't do that on land. >> the question is, is it a water only purpose? we deponent know what the purpose of this vessel is so we don't know if this vessel's purpose is maritime related so that has to be discovered as part of the permit process as well. >> reporter: unless google plans to leave the bay altogether, goldsman says it will steel need a permit. allen martin, kpix5.
>> there is no time frame for completing either barge. for the second time in weeks, a tesla crashes and burns into flame. >> reporter: whatever gains tesla stock made recently went up in smoke with this fire in mexico. explosion, curse words, and all, this video was given to the local newspaper. tesla offered to translate the reaction. >> i can't say that. that is very, very bad word. >> reporter: the driver was allegedly drunk when he crashed. the newspaper reported he fled the scene before firefighters doused the flames. three weeks ago, the first tesla fire was captured in washington state. the driver hit a piece of metal

and it is still snowing at last check. in the sierra. lots of ski resorts, folks up there are smiling because this means we are getting closer and closer to ski season beginning. it will feel closer and close tore winter tomorrow. look at these lows. napa, 42, oakland, 49, san jose, 48. redwood city, 45 chilly degrees. here is the setup in the skies above us. we have a big area spinning off to the east. not far enough way way to worry about the wind, but with all the moisture coming up, we are on the cold and dry side. we will not see rainfall from this system, but we will see some chilly air throughout the day tomorrow with highs in the low 60s . on wednesday, still with sunshine, highs not hitting 70 and won't until thursday. high pressure builds in, that storm is gone, we are be sunny and wilder with highs back in the 70s but it will feel like late fall out there. nights will be chilly.
