were sent to the hospital. >> reporter: michelle, police officers are still trying to figure out if the two dogs have an owner. the dogs didn't have tags when police found them. and neighbors say they hadn't seen them in the area before. we do know that a man was walking his two dogs on larkspur drive just southeast of bellflower drive before 9:00 last night. as he was getting off the trail, he and his dogs were bitten by two other stray dogs. as that was going on, neighbors heard the commotion and went outside to check it out and then they were bitten, too. antioch police arrived at the scene and the two dogs were still there. >> the dogs charged at the officers and the officers fired upon them and killed one. one ran away while still on the scene the other dog came back and we were able to capture that dog, as well. >> i heard the screaming and there was like a bunch of cop cars out here and i was scared and then i heard gunshots and i ran inside and i was like

really scared. >> reporter: all four people bitten were either treated at the scene or taken to a local hospital. officers say they had multiple dog bites but they will all be okay. the dogs have been or will be tested for rabies and police say the victims will be notified when the results are in. live in antioch, cate caugiran, kpix 5. >> police are still working to determine the breed of the dogs. neighbors say they look like pit bulls or mixes. santa rosa man is talking about his encounter with a sonoma county sheriff's deputy who fatally shot a teenager last week. jeffrey westbrook claims deputy erick gelhaus pulled a gun on him two months ago. westbrook said he was carpooling to work on 101 when gelhaus pulled him over for failing to use a turn signal. westbrook says he moved his car to make room for the deputy to stand on the highway's narrow shoulder when gelhaus pulled out his gun. >> when he asked me to -- to, you know, if i had weapons, he had the gun the second time. >> westbrook made the decision

to file a formal complaint before andy lopez's death. a lawyer for deputy gelhaus told the "chronicle" gelhaus and another deputy thought the 13-year-old had a real ak-47. attorney terry leone says gelhaus opened fire because lopez posed a lethal threat. a mother couldn't hide her emotions after her son was convicted of a crime that could lock him up for decades. >> i love you, baby. >> a marin county jury convicted 19-year-old max wade of grand theft auto and attempted murder. the stolen car was celebrity chef guy fieri's lamborghini stolen from a san francisco dealership. he was found guilty of trying to kill a man who was with a girl that he liked. >> it's a very difficult time for the family. >> wade was 17 when the crimes happened but he was tried as an ayou will d he could get up to 30 years in jail when he was sentenced this coming december. he was tried as an adult.

a man had his car broken into. someone broke into the san francisco police chief's car a few weeks ago outside his home and stole a jacket. chief suhr says he is not immune to crime and the case is unsolved. the search is on for a man who lived at a now closed assisted care facility in castro valley. investigators say 65-year-old edmond bascom wandered away from valley springs manor on friday. that was a day before paramedics rescued the remaining residents after discovering the home was closed and operating with a skeleton staff. he was last seen at the san leandro bart station on friday. happening today, the man shot by san francisco police officers in the marina district is expected to be arraigned. police say 19-year-old rommel narvaez tried to steal a man's iphone sunday. he ran off after allegedly firing his gun. no one was hit. officers found narvaez a few blocks away. they say they shot him after he point his gun at them. protestors plan to march and rally this afternoon to

save city college of san francisco. a march to city hall is scheduled to start at the school's civic center campus on eddy street at 3:30. a rally is set for 4:00 to demand mayor ed lee support efforts to keep the school open. ccsf is facing closure next year because of accreditation issues. 6:07 now. a san mateo child care aide facing charges for allegedly touching an elementary school girl inpromptly. police say 20-year-old eric michael rents was arrested friday at his home in millbrae. he worked for an after-school program at the more rel elementary school. rents now out on bail is due in court in december. 1982s deadly gas tanker explosion inside the caldecott tunnel has prompted builders to add some extra safety features to the new bore. the fourth tunnel will have a shoulder and a network of electronic message signs and a escape passengers inside. it will also have a railroad like crossing gate to stop

traffic and fans to suck out smoke and gas. $4,900,000,000 bore expected to open in a couple of weeks. searchers looking for the missing san jose gold miner have found a body. no confirmation it is 65-year- old walter steever, but the body was found about 1500 feet from his truck. steever left his home in west san jose a week ago to mine for gold in the rugged area near the south yuba river. the body found today hasn't been possibly identified. but we're told steever's family is at the scene. right now, boston baseball fans are either recovering from celebrations or still partying. probably the latter, right? yeah. the red sox, they are world series champions once again. it's the third world series victory for boston in 10 seasons. it's the third time in 10 years they clinched the world series title at fenway park. just six months ago, bomb

i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. time now 6:30. and we got some developing news at this hour. 6.6 earthquake hit eastern taiwan. the usgs says the quake hit in a remote mountainous area. it was strong enough though for buildings in the capital of taipei to sway. no reports though of serious damage or injuries yet. weaver monitoring the news feeds out of -- we are monitoring the news feeds out of taiwan and we'll bring you the latest information as it comes in. a number of people are recovering from dog bites after two dogs bit them a little before 9:00 last night at a trail in antioch. a man was walking his two dogs when two other dogs attacked them. three neighbors who came to help were also bitten. police shot and killed one of the attacking dogs. the other ran away but was later captured and is in quarantine this morning. and new this morning, officer across california will be conducting "operation boo" tonight to protect trick or treaters from sexual predators. kpix 5's anne makovec is live

at sfpd. officers will be making sure sex offenders are not handing canada degree toy trick or treaters. >> reporter: that's right! the sfpd is one of many agencies participating that will be paying "visits" to parolees tonight making sure that sex offenders are separated from halloween celebrations. even scarier that spiders and goblins what might be lurking behind a closed-door. that's why the state department of corrections is enforcing special rules for all sex offenders out on parole. there are about 6500 of them in california. and tonight -- >> so they can't have the lights on. there can be no decorations. in fact, further, they can't even leave their homes. >> reporter: if they open their door to anyone who is not law enforcement, they are subject to arrest. >> it keeps them away interest children. it's a high risk population. it keeps them away from children. it's a high risk population. >> reporter: it's a concern parents trick or treating with their kids hadn't thought of when planning their routes. >> maybe who has the most decorations and try to go by

that. >> reporter: of course, the danger isn't just at homes. hundreds of paroled sex offenders live on the streets. and later today, they will be rounded up and taken to a state facility to stay during trick or treating hours. >> we'll provide them access to the parolee outpatient clinic, job training and drug and drug treatment programs and receive instruction that evening. >> reporter: some say the rules are harsh. >> i think it's taking away their rights to express themselves. why can't they have halloween decorations in their windows? >> reporter: others are glad the state is vigilant. >> i'm happy that they are doing that. i hope, you know, they help the kids out and the parents with safety. >> reporter: so all of this begs the question, is this a problem? are there any recent examines of pedophiles snatching up trick or treaters? the people in charge of the program couldn't cite one. >> anne, what's the penalty if

the rules are broken? >> reporter: it's a parole violation and they could be sent to jail immediately for even answering the door, six months in jail. >> anne makovec live in san francisco, thank you. hayward police have a suspect for the murder of a man who was shot to death in front of his daughter nearly four years ago. 24-year-old dereak turner of vallejo was arrested tuesday. investigators believe he got into a verbal fight with thomas cunningham over cunningham's dogs and then shot him. cunningham was killed in front of his 13-year-old daughter after he just bought her an ice cream. some other bay area news now on this thursday. a state official is recommending pg&e be fined the maximum amount over its recordkeeping for a gas pipeline in san carlos. the records as well as the internal memos created some concern that the gas line could fail and cause a repeat of the san bruno disaster. an administrative law judge proposed a fine of nearly $7 million. the public utilities commission would decide the amount in

december. there's another accident involving a truck belonging to san francisco's recreation and parks department. a 12-year-old boy was hit yesterday near girard and bacon streets. the truck then hit an oncoming car. the boy is expected to be okay. police are still looking into who was at fault. police say a man driving a stolen car caused a horrific crash in san francisco's inner richmond district. the car thief ran a red right at 10th and geary and plowed into a lexus suv. the impact flipped the lexus over, sending it crashing into two other cars. all four drivers went to the hospital along with a passerby hit by flying debris. a state senator from southern california is accused of accepting $60,000 in bribes. al-jazeera broke the story about ron calderon a democrat from montebello. the news agency cites a classified federal affidavit. calderon is accused of accepting the money from undercover fbi agents in exchange for writing

it's estimated that 30% of the traffic in a city is caused by people looking for parking. that's remarkable that so much energy is, is wasted. streetline has looked at the problem of parking, which has not been looked at for the last 30, 40 years, we wanted to rethink that whole industry, so we go and put out these sensors in each parking spot

and then there's a mesh network that takes this information sends it over the internet so you can go find exactly where those open parking spots are. the collaboration with citi was important for providing us the necessary financing; allow this small start-up to go provide a service to municipalities. citi has been an incredible source of advice, how to engage with municipalities, how to structure deals, and as we think about internationally, citi is there every step of the way. so the end result is you reduce congestion, you reduce pollution and you provide a service to merchants, and that certainly is huge.

and your hands into the picture to let users manipulate content. the prototype is bulky but metta's goal is to shrink it down. a pair is available for preorder at $667 and will? inin january. this is a first. a woman in san diego just got a traffic ticket for wearing google glass while driving. she was pulled over for speeding but when the officer saw her google glass he gave her a ticket for that, too. she was so surprised she posted this picture of the ticket on google plus. the woman says her google glass was off but the officer says it was blocking her view. kpix 5 has uncovered more details about those mysterious google barges floating near treasure island. there are two barges here, a third one in maine. and we have learned that a tenant called buy and large, or bal, is leasing space across from the barge on the island and there's a sign telling anyone allowed in to turn off their phones and their cameras. sources tell us those barges could be retail centers for

google glass. still, google is isn't talking. there is another drop in the number of americans losing their jobs. here's kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks to chat about it on this thursday morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, frank. good morning, michelle. not a whole lot of improvement in the job market. we have not seen a whole lot of hiring over the past few months and now the labor department reporting that first time weekly unemployment claims are down by 10,000 to 340,000. the one notable thing about this report is it's the first one in about 2 months that's free of distortions after california upgraded its own system and worked through a big backlog. so the four-week actually went up to over 356,000 was still impacted by that number. so we didn't have a clear longer term picture of jobless claims. lots of corporate earnings coming in. facebook reported after the closing bell yesterday it easily topped expectations, its revenue up 60% from a year earlier to more than $2 billion. it saw a big gain in mobile advertising revenue up 34% from

the prior quarter. that's critical for the company. but in a worrisome sign for investors, the company admitted that team daily usage on the site continues to decline, that's not a trend that facebook wants to see going into the future. teen daily usage on the site continues to decline. yesterday after record highs on tuesday, dow lower by a couple of points, nasdaq up by 2, s&p up by 1 points. facebook shares falling by about 1%. michelle and frank, back to you. >> thank you, kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. let's kick it over to liz now on this halloween morning. how's traffic? >> it is. it's looking spooky if you are coming southbound six six. unfortunately we have a new accident now. it's approaching sunol. the left lane and center divide both blocked and it looks like we are seeing slow-and-go conditions from at least 580. so again, that accident just reported, chp is heading to the scene. in the meantime, we are seeing our usual delays here at the bay bridge toll plaza, pretty typical for 6:46 a.m. and you can see the metering lights are turned on. it's filling in all the lanes

and it's stacked up toward the west grand overcrossing so about 15 minutes to get on the bay bridge. traffic alert also remains in effect at petaluma. the road is closed due to an earlier power lines down smaller brush fire in the area. it's now out by the way. clean-up crews are still out there. lakeville highway 116 shut down by stage gulch and it is causing a few delays on 101. also westbound 580 traffic is heavy this morning. no exceptions through tracy coming on 205 and through the livermore valley. if you have any questions once you hit the road tune to our radio partners, kcbs 740-am and 106.9-fm. that is your latest "kcbs traffic." here's lawrence. >> can't even find any scary looking clouds outside right now. in fact, mostly clear skies around the bay area. going to stay that way all day long. a little chilly though if you are heading out the door. some of the temperatures at least in the north bay down into the 30s. still we'll find plenty of sunshine today under high pressure. the temperatures are going to be warming up today a bit.

in fact as you head to some of the interior valleys mid-70s and even warmer into friday. high pressure now just a dome really protecting us from any rainfall as the jet stream stays well to the north. that will strengthen a little bit tomorrow so dry and seasonal weather some very mild temperatures outside for today and the next couple of days. not only here, but around the state as high as 78 degrees in redding. about 78 and sunny in sacramento. about 57 degrees and sunny in lake tahoe. 63 into monterey bay. temperatures around our bay today you're looking at 60s and some mid-70s in the warmest spots and it looks like a great day ahead. in fact, tomorrow going to be a little bit warmer, then a few scary looking clouds coming in on saturday and sunday but no rain in the forecast. a little cooler into monday. all right. time for your schoolcast. today we go to audubon elementary school in foster city. for your morning bell you may need a jacket or maybe a good costume on this halloween. temperatures in the mid-40s. by lunchtime recess, 67 degrees.

larkspur and bellflower drive just before 9:00 last night. as he was getting off a trail two loose dogs bit him and his dogs. three neighbors in the area heard what was going on so they decided to check it out. then the dogs struck again biting all three of them. >> if that happened during the halloween when they are all trick or treating and having a good time with their family it would have been horrific and devastating. >> officers arrived. and the dogs charged at the officers and the officers were forced to fire upon the dogs killing one. one of the dogs ran away. while still on the scene the other dog came back and we were able to capture that dog as well. >> reporter: all four people injured were treated at the scene or taken to a local hospital. officers say they are expected to be okay. police are still trying to determine the breed of the dogs. neighbors in the area say they look like pit bulls or pit mixes. reporting live in antioch, cate caugiran, kpix 5. our last check of "kcbs traffic," we will go outside live to san mateo and show you
