start off the day. sunny and breezy conditions this afternoon with cool but seasonal daytime highs and we're going to stay dry all the way through the end of 2018. let's show you that first new year's forecast for monday night. by 7:00 p.m. looking at temperatures in the low to mid 50s with partly cloudy skies. we're going to wring in the new year with temperatures right around 49 degrees so it is going to be a great new year's even into new year's day. we're going to time it all out on future cast taking you through the rest of the week. now let's check in with giana for a look at traffic this morning. >> . if you want to skip the roadways and use mass transit you shouldn't have any delays. ace is on time as well. looking good. let's check out our travel times right now. we are in the green which is great news if you're hitting the
roadways this morning. if you're traveling out of the south bay via 101. that will only take you 35 minutes and look at that only 13 minutes along that east shore freeway. and an easy ride through the altamonte pass. so enjoy it while you can. no delays. you're at the limit from 205 as you work your way towards 680. taking a look at other parts through the bay area. you can see we're all in the green for that east bay drive. taking a look at the rest of the bay no delays along 280. if you're commuting out of the south bay through the peninsula here's a live look at our maps here showing all green. let's get a live look at 680 right now. if you're traveling through walnut creek everything is clear. so that south 680 ride heading towards highway 24 working your
way through everything is clear. here's a live look at the bay bridge right now. i doubt they'll be turned on. as you work your way into san francisco. >> thank you. 5:03 right now u.s. customs and border patrol customs is now ordering a medical check. an 8-year-old boy who was tried to migrate from guatemala. the agency released a statement saying the boy was initially released diagnosed with a cold and a fever. he was later brought back to new mexico hospital where he later died. >> it's tragic. we're thinking about his family right now. what they must be feeling to have lost their child on christmas day. >> the boy's death comes three
weeks after another goddaughter malan child died. now to a live look at washington d.c.. you can see the sun is coming up there in the capital city. the partial federal government shut down going into day 5 today. parts of the government will stay closed until democrats agree to fund his border wall. tom hanson has more on the ongoing shut down. . >> i can't tell you whether the government's going to be open. i can tell you it's not going to be open until we have a wall, a fence, whatever they'd like to call it. >> the president said there has to be some kind of barrier to staufrj the flow of illegal humans, drugs, instead the president referred to the more

passport office that will be closed indefinitely. so here's what we know so far. so closed today passport offices, national park visitor centers, their bathrooms and parking lots. department of education offices and seafood and dairy inspectors. remaining open today. >> one group that will be hit hard these are people with skills and tech and high in construction. they will not be working. not be getting paid and they will not be able to make up those lost hours or assignments.

unsure where exactly was it. it sounded like it was right in our back yard. >> one person on the plane is confirmed dead and a few homes near the crash scene had to be evacuated. new details on the fatal police shooting in san jose on christmas morning. >> cellphone video capturing the moment officers fired into a vehicle. led on a chase and then rammed up a patrol car. a female suspect was killed. the chase was in response to an earlier shooting on the east side. >> the first stabbing was on jesse street between 6th and mint streets. this happened at 5:30 on monday night. a 70-year-old woman died at the scene. the second stabbing happened
just after 12:30 a.m. on market streets. sf p.d. has arrested a 27-year-old homeless man in connection to that attack and are now investigating whether he was responsible for the first one. time check it's 5:09 an oakland church is proving it knows the true meaning of holiday on christmas. >> the church and its parishioners came up with the plan to set up beds and blankets. they've also been serving people through christmas eve and today. >> just to have somebody to tell you to come in many and we're going to feed you and house you for as much time as they can, it's a wonderful thing. >> i'm hoping it catches on and other churches are opening their doors to say hey, ya'll can come in and stay. >> that's bishop keith clark.

your way through here. this is the northbound 880 connector over to southbound 101. i'm going to show you on our maps here you can see there's really no delays because of it. so overall traffic is still pretty quiet. keep your eye out for that trouble spot there. if you are commuting out of morgan hill pretty easy right now. we're seeing everything in the green and we are getting word of a broken down vehicle that may cause some slight spectator slowing. one lane is blocked there. so again a lot of green, traffic is still pretty light. not a lot of cars on the roadways. if you're commuting from this portion down to the golden gate bridge area. live look here you can see an easy ride into san francisco that's about a 12-minute ride right now. live look right now at the dublin interchange so all those
dublin lights through the altamonte pass. only about 22 to 25 minutes. so easy as you work your way through there. san mateo bridge looks good as well with no delays here. 880 over towards 101. give yourself at least 15 minutes to head across the span of the san mateo bridge. >> it's going to be another beautiful day across the bay area. here is a live look with our transamerica cam under mainly clear skies this morning. a chilly start in spots. let's show you our current conditions. 39 in concord.50. n jose 42 and santa rosa coming in at 305. here's what you expect.
mainly clear skies. we'll see northwesterly winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour this afternoon and evening. we're looking at a cool day. but seasonal for this time of year. we're going to stay dry through the end of 2018. so it does look dry and quiet across our region. so we're going to be on the tail end of a dry cold front. there's an upper level low well to our north and it's going to drag the tail end of a dry front our way and that will really just bring breezy conditions and you can see this on future cast taking you through the afternoon with clear skies as we go through tonight. could see some patchy clouds. this is at 10:00 p.m. and other than that still looking at plenty of sunshine as we end out the week. we're going to fast forward all the way into new year's day. this is at 4:00 p.m. and you can see that ridge of high pressure will be the dominant weather feature for us. first, new year's forecast and what you can expect for monday night looking at temperatures at
7:00 p.m. the low to mid 50s. we wring in the new year with temperatures in the low 50s into the upper 40s with partly cloudy skies. looking great for all of those new year's eve festivities. as well as for pacifica there. 60 santa rosa. san rafael. oakland for a daytime high. san jose. mountain view. redwood city. 59 in concord and 58 for livermore. here's your 7-day forecast and what you can expect. sunny and breezy today. we'll continue with that sunshine thursday, friday, and for saturday. mainly in the upper 50s for the bay. mid 50s for the coast. then for sunday, partly sunny as we are tracking a weather system to our north and that will bring a few more clouds for new year's eve into new year's day. looking great with that sunshine. well it was a white christmas in the high sierra.

traffic is light. another perspective of 880 our live caltrans shot right now with 880 at passeo grande. so let's get a look at that and you can see traffic is moving pretty well as you that area. >> taking a look at other parts through the bay area. if you're headed southbound all the way into fremont you shouldn't have any troubles along the nimmets freeway. we are monitoring these maps. a car did go down the embankment. major injuries reported in this crash. we did see a lot of activity for chp and emergency crews waiting on a tow truck to clear it back on to the roadway. right now no delays but they may take away one lane just in case. let's take a look at that forecast. sunny skies here's mary. >> that's right. we're going to keep that sunshine going for us. we're going to do again today. also we're going to see some
breezy conditions as we head through the afternoon and evening. but a live look with our south bay san jose cam. good morning to you. we are looking at mainly clear skies across our region and a chilly start for sure. so temperatures are running in the 30s, 40s as we start off our wednesday here. 39 in concord. looking at 50 in oakland. 35 livermore. downtown san francisco 49. 42 currently? san jose and 35 for santa rosa. so mainly clear. chilly conditions. this is what you can expect as we head through the afternoon. sign and breezy. anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour. a cool but seasonal afternoon for us. so temperatures near where we should be for this time of year and we're going to stay dry through the end of 2018 as high pressure really remains in control for us. so the satellite and radar view we're tracking this upper level low well to our north and the tail end of this dry cold front will push across our region.
the only real impacts will be breezy conditions for us with that ridge of high pressure still in control for us. as we go through the day here we are on future cast and you can see the sunshine there. as we go through tonight could see some patchy clouds. this is at 10:00 p.m. and other than that we'll see that sunshine for thursday and through the weekend. as we fast forward as we head to new year's day, this is looking at plenty of sunshine for new year's day. that first new year's forecast, we are looking for monday night 7:00 p.m. low to mid 50s and partly cloudy skies and as we ring in the new year temperatures in the low to upper 40s. looking great especially for new year's day as well with that sunshine. so daytime highs today looking at temperatures in the upper 50s in san francisco. 57 in pacifica. 59 redwood city and mountain view san jose. 60 for a high
santa rosa and napa. here's your 7-day forecast with high pressure in control. sunny and breezy today. we'll see that sunshine thursday, friday, and for saturday. now for sunday there's a weather system to our north and that will bring a few more clouds with us but still dry and here we go with our new year's eve forecast for monday looking at that sunshine and first day of 2019 on tuesday looking at mostly sunny skies. >> thank you. 5:49 it was a holiday on ice in parts of southern california. a storm spun into cajon pass and the san gabriel mountains dozens of cars were involved in chain reactions. and crashing into the pile up. a local reporter called it quote complete utter chaos. certainly looks like that.
