we belie onor both of the squad cars was involved in the initial shooting. the green cards are part of the investigation as police pieced together would happen. san jose police said the suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. no officers were injured. the shooting that occurred just a few blocks south of independence high school. we did talk to a student from independence high school who said students on campus were aware of the shooting and heard about it through social media traffic. but that is 2/10 of a mile from here. pretty far from the crime scene. the students say knowing about it but don't have any effect on the school. we'll bring you mortal more details as we know them. i mark sanger, kpix 5 . let's get to the latest on out, the tider crews ha maignt g

throwing a little event tonight. we will have more on that coming up at 6:00. a little hint, there's a party at the mayor's house. we're live and sor,waer forkpix san bernardino showing the wrath of the newest california wildfire. the flames forcing hundreds of residents to flee in the middle of the night and in golfing several houses. the front kept the fire from spreading. the fire spec this morning in the foothills near highway 18. the flames raced downhill to the neighborhoods below. it is being called the hillside fire and it has burned 200 acres in 60 mile-per-hour winds. our crews have up containment to 50%. the calls remains a mystery. investigators say there were no powerlines where the fire spec. after the flames burned through this neighborhood, some residents have returned to find their homes destroyed. this man's family's home is

nothing now but a burned out shell but he managed to get his wife, four kids and belongings out. even ran to the neig >> the man lost baby pictures of his kids saved on the laptop, destroyed by the fire. but he has a positive outlook saying the home can be replaced but life cannot. fire crews also working to hold fire lines in simi valley where the wind causing the easy fire to grow to 1700 acres since yesterday. the blaze is 10% contained. 26,000s are allowed to return home and all mandatory evacuations are lifted. at the height of the fire the place down the highway and threatened the ronald reagan presidential library. pg&e utwn. governor newsom visited in el dorado county school today. one of many closed this week by power outages.

wood lodged in the dan. it happened on i-80 near mcdonald avenue in richmond. luckily it did not break all the way through. authorities say the driver was not injured. the driver south of the bay area faced a dangerous commute last night. cars speeding down 101 were being hit by unknown projectiles and police do not know where they were coming from. actually, this has been happening off and on since summer. along highway 101 near the highway 56 interchange. that is east of lost landing. you can see one driver's window completely blown out. he wasn't the only one. chp said there were 89 incidents like this within just 30 minutes. 8:00 to 9:00. authorities don't know what the projectile is or who is shooting them. the victims were worried people could be seriously hurt. >> it was on the left-hnd explo hassan emergency vehicle pulled over. so i pulled behind it.

2016. in exclusive interview with cbs lose news, u.s. attorney who investigated the hack details of the unusual weight uber handled the sensitive customer information. >> reporter: prosecutors say a uber launched its own version of a manhunt to track down two hackers who extorted the company out of $100,000 in exchange for a promise to delete 57 million user files that they stole off a third party server. the justice department said that within weeks of paying the ransom, uber employees showed up at brandon glover's florida home and found at a hotel restaurant in canada. the pair admitted the crimes but uber did not turn them over to the cops. instead they had them sign nondisclosure agreements promising to keep quiet. >> we know that the defendants said that they destroyed that data. but there was a third participant in the hack. that third participant was

unknown to uber. >> the hackers targeted a company owned by linkedin that did not pay and probably reported the hack to police. uber eventually did as well. a year after the hack. when the new ceo publicly disclosed it. the hackers were eventually arrested and pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiracy to commit extortion. uber behaved atrociously. the wired editor-in-chief nick thompson said with cyber crimes on the rise, our personal data remains vulnerable. >> we have come up with smart ways to protect data. and hackers have come up with all kinds of smart ways to get through our protections. your data is held in a bunch of places. and each one of those places needs to be secure. >> the first time those two hackers met in person was after they were arrested. the now face up to 5 years in prison. and the third person involved remains a large. ubers says it is not commenting

two people are dead and one person is in the hospital after a plane crashed onto a road and hit an suv. it happened in ocala, 80 miles northwest of orlando. authorities say the plane crashed on a maintenance light. you can see the plane appears to be completely destroyed and the front of the suv smashed in. the driver of the suv was taken to the hospital. no word on their condition. dozens of boeing planes are grounded after cracks turned up in a crucial part. the 737 ng is a heavy-duty used model around the world. three models in asia and australia have grounded them for inspection. earlier boeing reported a problem with the part that binds wings to the fuselage. the company now says out of 1000 planes, less than 5% had cracks detected. the ng is a precursor to the 737 max. of course that model has been grounded since march on the flight handling software.
