area studios. this is kp eeumdx news. >> looking live from our exclusive sales floor tower camera right now. the city of san francisco you can see they're lit up in the red and the gold for the san francisco 49ers. i'm in for michelle griego this morning i'm anne makovec and she's in miami to cover the sprul. >> covering those 49ers. i'm kenny choy. . >> good morning kenny and anne. we are starting off the day with cloudy skies and there's a chance to see a few showers as we go through our day with a week system pushing through and temperatures not as chilly as yesterday. you can see many spots in the 50s. low 50s in concord, oakland, san jose, santa rosa and mid 40s in livermore. we'll see season ably mild

temperatures. mid 60s san jose and low 60s for concord. so temps running anywhere from 1 to 5 degrees above average. we'll talk about those chances coming up. good morning and let's get a first look at this traffic tuesday this morning. so far traffic moving at the limit as you make your way. things are moving pretty nice. overall pretty easy ride out of the east bay into san francisco. seen a lot of green on our sensors so that's good news this morning. no delays 101 off to 880. we do have an accident not affecting the main lights we'll keep an eye on that and we're starting to see the first line of slowing once you're past there traffic looks great. we are learning more about

the minutes leading up to the helicopter crash that killing kobe bryant and others. . >> federal investigators are pain stakingly examining the helicopter crash. his daughter gianna and several others went down sunday. >> a piece of the tail is down the hill on the left side of the hill. >> the helicopter took off at 9:06 a.m. headed for a basketball tournament in nearby thousand oaks when it ran into thick fog. >> you're still too low levelled for a flight following at this time. >> the pilot did not signal distress but he was climbing to avoid a cloud layer before slamming into a hillside. >> we'll be looking at other

things on the hillside and we're going to be looking for other electronics. >> thousands of mourners and fans fathed here at the staples center, the house that kobe built. >> several landmarks including the empire state building lit up in purple and gold monday night. >> nba star lebron james who recently surpassed bryant's all time scoring record promising to continue his legacy. cbs news los angeles. and makeshift memorials continue to pop up outside the staples center for kobe bryant and his daughter. the arena has now become a place of gathering for thousands of fans. throughout the day, you can see people wearing purple. yellow and white jerseys.

there will be three health checks along the way and this comes as new numbers are released in that outbreak and china the outbreak bringing the total to more than 405 mushgs. the death toll has climbed to 106. and there are five confirmed cases here in the u.s. and the mayor of san francisco and city health officials say they are ready to respond. >> it's important to recognize that there are no confirmed cases in san francisco at this time. we are actively preparing for the possibility of confirmed cases. >> the city activateling its emergency operating center to centralize a response to any cases and is keeping in close contact with nearby hospitals. we're going to hear more about that in our money watch report. first, here's katie with more on how china is working to control the situation. katie. >> yeah, good morning. and so quarantines now expanding in mainland china and

hong kong's leader says they're so concerned about the chronic in a virus that they are stopping train service between hong kong and main line china. the high speed and regular train stations will be closing starting on friday. so at the end of the week, no one will be able to go in or out of hong kong. so far 106 people have died from that flu-like disease that was first identified in december and as we've been talking about five confirmed cases in the u.s., none here in the bay area although there are some in southern california. so far no deaths reported in the united states from the corona virus. 4:38 as you take a live look at capitol hill where president trump's team is provided opening arguments. new information may cause some republicans to break party lines. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell has a hard line stance against admitting new evidence or testimony so far.

an up coming book from former national security advisor john bolton has some new allegations. he wanted to freeze aid to ukraine until the ukrainian government assisted with investigations into democrat candidates. and now that a direct testimony may be available, some gop senators may be able to admit bolton. as a witness. >> john bolton has a relevant testimony. >> the senators cannot hide from a relevant witness who has come forward and indeed. now trying to figure out a way to stop it from happening again. these ijs caught the armed robbery in oakland's ridgemon.t

neighborhood. oakland city council member lauren taylor and oakland police met with concerned residents last night hoping to improve public safety. >> it's obviously unnerving. so our residents are very understandably concerned about how they can keep themselves safe. >> the ridgemonte neighborhood is setting up a watch and the homeowner's neighborhood made plans to stall more security cameras.. police are searching for the suspects involved in an oakland freeway shooting. that person is now in critical condition. the suspects are described as masked individuals driving a white suv hatchback. chp officers are actively investigating this morning. if you have information on this shooting you're asked to call the ch.p tipline. kgw's michelle kpi --

being moved in oakland meanwhile for years. now the sf chronicle reports that the city is moving some of the residents to a city owned lot on high street. the space is expected to have shelters and beds for those currently leading the encampment. >> a permanent ban on gun shows. next the new bill that would no longer allow the sale of guns or ammunitions at an events center. >> and taking a live look at the city of san francisco. downtown lights shining bright. this is our can my side be firm?

posed by the corona virus. the dow fell for a 5th straight day slumping 453 points. nasdaq tumbled 175 and the s&p 500 dropped 51. the federal reserves open market committee gathering today for two day meeting of the year. it's unclear if policy makers are considering any interest rate changes. a decision will be announced after the meeting wraps tomorrow. the fed indicated it made no changes in 2020. >> apple said to announce its earnings report later today. tomorrow investors will hear from microsoft and facebook. on thursday it will be amazon's turn. that's your cbs muffin watch report. for more, head to cbs money at the new york stock exchange i'm dianne king hall. 4:48 this morning. yes.

. . . >> never mind. >> talking a little rain this morning. >> a little bit. this is really a weak system bringing in a few light showers for the bay area and that's really about it. other than that we are looking at high pressure building in and a big warm up in store for us. here's a lye look with our roof cam and we are cheering on our 49er's tower lit upreand gold this morning. check out our temps. definitely not as chilly as yesterday morning. many spots in the low 50s. concord and oakland. san jose and santa rosa all in the low 50s and 47 for liver more. so your weather headlines it's a cloudy start. also dealing with some patchy fog this morning. as we head through our day looking at a few light showers late in the morning and early afternoon with this cold front pushing through. but it's really going to fall apart and just a moment we are

going to be warming up later this week definitely feeling more like spring by friday and saturday. and we do need the rain. so from our rainfall since october 1st comparing that to average month to date looking at 78% of average in santa rosa. 34% in lir more and 51% of average in san jose month to date. so we desperately need the rain here we are at 9:00 a.m. for some light showers for the north bay. the peninsula as we go through 1:00 p.m. down through the peninsula there and a few isolated spotty showers possible as we head

through about 3:00 p.m. but you can already start to see that for the north bay by thisng afternoon and cl high pressure builds in. we'll see plenty of sunshine starting wednesday through the rest of the week. not expecting a lot of rain but you can see parts of the east bay and south bay. looking ahead to the end of the week, friday, saturday, we are definitely going to warm up with high temperatures in the low 70s inland by friday and saturday. 58 for today in san francisco. 59 in oakland. 64 in san jose. there we go with attch ththosn temperatures dath, d imcib bycly friday and saturday. gianna. let's check the roadways right now. overall it's variable. not a lot going on. not a lot of cars on the roadway.
