allowed to travel through their. will have that just a minute. overall the freeways are quiet and your morning commute is doing opaque. ok. break myself about 883 hayward, 28 minutes from this period towards 237. we have a surface street problem at fulsome and fremont street. that is blocking the intersection. the metering lights are on on the bay bridge. one of the biggest story today is marquetry going car free and traffic could possibly spill over on areas of mission and howard. so, let's check in with jackie ward who was live on market street right now. jackie, how is it looking so far? >> let's see, we are one minute into this and we are bite me and market and were trying to see if any of these cars me, it's one way, will turn left onto market because they are no longer allowed to do that as of

two minutes ago. market street is car free and that includes righteous. here is who will be allowed. taxes, commercial vehicles, and emergency vehicles, muni and paratransit and bikes and scooters. this new rule will only allow drivers to cross market from stewart to van ness but not to drive on it. if you do you might be getting a fine for nearly $250. affect -- sfmta says it doesn't -- business owners on mission say they expect more traffic. >> i think it will be more crowded. >> i think it's good for business. people will look around and see and know we have a salon here on michigan. -- >> reporter: this is only phase 1 of the project. up next sometime this spring the extension of bus only lanes

investigation the city is also conducting its own investigation. new this morning east palo alto police investigating the city's first homicide of the year. they got reports of shots being fired last night after 8:00 on circle. when they got there they found a person who had been shot and call paramedics but it was too late. no arrests have been may. the santa cruz county sheriff's office is releasing some new details into the murder case. this is tech executive who was kidnapped from his home and killed in october. the sheriff's office is planning to release a new video of the person of interest to they suspect of killing him. the reward will also be increased to the largest in county history. the news conference starts at 11:30 this morning in santa cruz. taking a live look to capitol hill where the impeachment trial president trump is entering a new phase. senators have two days to get their questions answered before they take a crucial vote to decide whether or not to allow

all week long we will have reports from miami, florida, as we get ready for super bowl liv. miami is the hub for cuban culture and that means really good food. kpix 5's michelle griego is live in miami where they are cooking up something special in little havana. >> reporter: did you say food? i have some right here for you. look at this. this is cuban food. this had a bite in it because i took a bite. this is like a ham best amount and then of course everyone comes here to versailles in little havana for the cuban sandwich. >> these are some of our most popular dishes. the cuban sandwich which is

>> i just feel like dancing right now. >> i am ready for a miami vacation. >> travel inspiration. we love to dance but we have to check traffic right now at 6:14. how are the roads? >> we have our typical hot spots. plus is a big traffic day in san francisco as market street goes car free today. it happened about 15 minutes ago. we have all that to get to. that started out with the trouble spot on the dumbarton bridge. west bound, some delays and an accident on 101 at 237. all the activity is to the right shoulder but that morning commute is starting to get busy. the crash on the dumbarton isn't blocking land and in fact drive time still looking really good. if you want to use a dumbarton so far things are ok with the crash going from 880 towards marsh road only 12 minutes. san mateo bridge slowing down a

bit. 60 minute drive between 880 towards 101. it looks like 60 minutes is your drive time and 880 so sweet as well from experience down to 237. both delays looks like it's starting to line up in the hayward area. of casa bay bridge we have the usual stop and the metering lights and no trouble near the island. there is a crash going into the city on folsom street and fremont street. starting to see traffic spill onto the maze right now so getting sluggish off 580 as well as traffic as you work along eastshore freeway. car free market street is official. east from -- you will see delays possibly on surface streets in and around that area. hopefully everyone is behaving. other major cities across the country already getting in ongoing car free. i asked the new york city department of transportation if new traffic hot spots popped up

on surrounding streets. >> is one of our concerns going in as well. we don't want to see traffic overflowing into residential streets. we have extensively monitoring it and have seen a slowdown but we are talking one minute or two minutes on low streets where as buses are going 5+ minutes faster so i wouldn't say we've seen no effect but it has been very, very small. >> we are keeping a close eye on the traffic patterns and see the changes because of the change on market three. coming up i spoke with the new york city traffic logger about how clearing out the cars up next climate change. for more info on the changes to head to our website kpix.com. i know you got it all covered for us, gianna. here is a live look with our salesforce tower camera looking east with some clearing out

berkeley city council voted to allow marijuana only smoking

lounges within city limits. many at the meeting were concerned about the operator of the lounges and locations from setting up shot at one of the busiest intersections. they say it needs square footage at the location to operate effectively. and implant to be a good neighbor. in the north bay police are set to finish clearing out one of the largest homeless encampment in sonoma county. some 260 people have been camping along the joe rodota trail in santa rosa for the past several months. a couple weeks ago supervisors decided to relocate them to a temporary village. homeless advocates say the new camp can only house 60 people and the rest have nowhere else to go. we would love to hear any ideas you have when it comes to the bay area housing crisis. send your ideas to project home can see more information on lea

getting ready to land in just about two hours. the new coronavirus concerns this morning. good morning. it is wednesday, january 29, i'm kenny choi. >> and i'm anne makovec. michelle is in miami and we will check in with her coming up in a few but first, san francisco's long-awaited plan of going car free on market street is now in effect. we have team coverage and let's start with gianna in the traffic center. >> hopefully if you utilize market street you are aware of the changes and the portion between van ness and the embarcadero will be banned for private vehicles is down from 10 to main street and west from stewart to van ness are the parameters. we are keeping a close eye on service streets to see if any traffic patterns change and jackie will have a live report coming up in just a minute. on the freeways were seeing someone go conditions as you work your weight southbound and into this and all great. without slowing go break lights as you head south bound 880 out of hayward working down into the fremont area.

san mateo bridge looking good with no major delays on that track as you had from hayward to foster city. the question is how are things going on market street with the new changes. jackie ward is like on market right now. jackie how is it looking so far? >> reporter: so the rule has been in effect for 31 minutes now and already we have seen at least 20 private vehicles drive on market street and we haven't seen any of those people pulled over to be given a warning or spoken to. police officers are supposed to be her and 7:00 to clear up any confusion so we will keep monitoring this and see how it goes. here is who is still allowed to mauetry.of taxis, cod kes and scooters. this only allows drivers to

cross market street from stewart to van ness but not to drive on it and if you do drive a market where you're not supposed to the fine will be only 255 bucks. the sfmta says safety is a major reason for this change in 2018 123 injury collisions happened on market alone between octavia and stuart streets. >> what were trying to do is really minimize the conflict between bicyclists, pedestrians, and private vehicles. >> reporter: this is only phase 1 of a phase project. up next in the spring the extee nsion reof bus only lanes east from there to main street and at that point taxis and non- muni buses will not be allowed in those lanes. come this summer there is a plan for the sections of ellis and joan streets near market to improve safety of vehicle movement there and also major bicycle intersection for improvements and throughout the first half of the year. the entire project is estimated to cost $3.5 million.

are all suspending all flights to china right now in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. a live look at the march air reserve base in riverside, and there is going to be a landing coming up later on this morning of a plane carrying 200 u.s. dignitaries from china and it will land there within a couple hours. it is not believed any of them are sick but they have been evacuated from wuhan, china, where the virus has begun and was spreading from. they will be quarantined once they arrive in riverside for three days just to make sure they are not showing any symptoms. the virus has been detected in at least 16 countries. in china were it began the number of people killed stands at 132 with nearly 6000 confirmed cases. five of those cases are here in the u.s. the number of people

infected by the coronavirus in china's surpasses those who were sickened by the stars outbreak that appeared back in 2002. united airlines has suspended 24 flights between the u.s. and beijing, hong kong and shanghai between every first and eighth because of what they call a significant decline in demand. meanwhile cbs news is reporting that the white house is considering suspending all flights between the u.s. and china. as we take a live look from los angeles where the investigation continues, into the helicopter crash to kill kobe bryant and eight other people. developing news this morning, the coroner's office confirmed the identities of all the victims and cell phone video has also emerged and it appears to show the helicopter spinning moments before the fatal crash. investigators say the pilot had thousands of hours of flight experience but foggy conditions that morning contributed to the crash. meantime, tributes for the victims are still pouring in. >> i haven't of felt the pain

earnings reports are out and apple had another huge quarter but boeing showing a loss for the first time in two decades. joining a flight is now kcbs radio's financial reporter jason brooks. >> we will start with the good news. apple had a blockbuster holiday quarter for the company. iphone 11 sales soared way higher than anybody expected on wall street. air pods, one of the hottest sellers and the launch of apple tv plus, also helping out the big way. the company's revenue came in close to $92 billion. that was a record quarter for apple. it is been setting all sorts of records over the past decade. stock has more than doubled over the past year worth more than $1.4 trillion and stop is heading higher by another 2%. boeing a much different story.

7:00. more than about coming up but here is a live look at the bay bridge. metering lights are on. it is a slow crawl with break lights pretty much out of the maze coming up eastshore freeway and 580 as well. surpassed the metering lights and gets better. it has improved across the upper deck. we have a couple accidents and there is a trouble spot as you work with west bound 80 right and highway 4. in hercules tickets to the right shoulder and traffic is slow in that portion. 27 minutes from highway 4 to the macarthur maze. another accident southbound 880 right at a street where we see slowing anyway. as you head to hayward a little sluggish and san mateo bridge also seen break lights. 21 minutes between 880 towards 101 and things are getting busy in the south bay with the usual stuff along 101 and the south bay. and taking a look at traffic here in and around artistry, a lot of folks may be using

i'm jackie ward live on market street in san francisco where just less than an hour ago this became a car free situation. we are at market and may and you can no longer take a left from maine on to market street unless you are a taxi, a commercial vehicle, an emergency vehicle, a muni bus, paratransit, bicyclist and scooter can also use market street sale but the overall
