two breaking news stories on kpix 5 and streaming on cbsn bay area. three alarm grass fire burning ons peninsula sending up smoke near sfo. >> but first an emergency landing within just the last few minutes at a south bay airport. a small four passenger plane has just made an emergency landing at mineta san jose airport mineta san jose international airport landing safely on the runway despite having no landing gear. the plane had been circling mineta san jose airport mineta san jose international airport since 10:30 this morning. this is a small private plane, not a commercial flight. no injuries to any of the people on board that plane. and more breaking news. a bay area vegetation fire in february. looking live from our sales force tower camera. crew, are battling the three alarm fire that broke out on san bruno mountains at the
state and county park. check out the flames from this fire from a short time ago. you can see it was really burning the vegetation in the area. of course the crews were out there with their hoses. what helped in containing this fire or getting control of it, you could see the fire breaks. a lot of times the fire crews get out of there. in this case you can see the roads on about two or three sides of the fire. that kind of helped as a fire break there. what else helps is the wind. it is not very windy out there today, so that helps crews out there trying to contain that fire. you can see those plumes of smoke. that signifies that is burning a lot of fuel and vegetation. then on the left, the white smoke. you can see that smoke in the distance. i did get a slow right of spread that fire. there were no evacuations and mary lee when you're talking about vegetation fires out
there, you're always concerned about the wind. >> reporter: right michelle. thankfully so. we have seen just light conditions out there. now, northerly winds that is an offshore dry air flow but just looking at sustained winds at five to eight miles per hour sustained out there. that is helping fire crews as they try to get a handle on this fire and it does look like improving conditions out there. a big difference than an hour ago. you can see smoky conditions on our sfo camera. you could see that smoke earlier. it looks like firefighters are doing their best to get a handle on this. here is our sales force tower camera and a big difference, a dramatic difference as well. just looking at that white smoke and that does indicate that fire crews out there are getting a very good handle on this fire. i want to show you current
wind speeds. near the mountain, sfo looking at five miles per hour and again flows are northerly winds so those light to calm conditions out there really helping firefighting efforts. you can see how hazy it is because of that vegetation fire. we have been watching it. about an hour ago, we were watching the fire grow and spread and now it looks like a different story with firefighters doing all they can. we have been watching fire crews douse the flames and we saw the flames shooting up on our live coverage and now with the smoke plumes not as intense as what we saw earlier and with that white smoke as well, it does look like improving conditions with firefighters really getting a handle on this fire. back to you. >> mary, usually we're not talking about or concerned about major vegetation fires in the month of february, but it has been very dry out there.
this is another live look. this is a look we have been looking at with that smoke. you can see it is dissipating in that area. that is good news for not only the fire crews fighting the blaze but for the people who live in that area. we did see homes in that area. again, no evacuations. this witness a wo alarm fire and turned into a three alarm fire. this is what we were seeing a short time ago. this is video from earlier, all of those flames as the firefighters worked very hard to douse the flames. you can see, though, that fire break there was nat road, that helps out conditions, as well as the wind, what mary was just explaining. you can see when that fire starts getting under control and stops burning the vegetation and dry fuel in the area, this is what happens. these white plumes of smoke. >> people have been taking pictures of this fire all
morning long. here is what alaina says. you can see the fire on the mountain. you can see the plumes of gray and white smoke in this picture. quickly it went to a three- alarm blaze. for information on the fire, please follow us. a view of the bruno fire on san bruno martin. obviously the concern is this fire, but no structures threatened and know evacuation orders in place. that is the good news. taking a live look at big board right now. the dow is down more than 855.s. another brutal day on wall street. u.s. stock markets are headed for the worst week since 2008 amid fears of the coronavirus and how impact global markets. the outbreak is affecting business around the world and here in the bay area.
jackie ward has more. >> reporter: the port of oakland says it is just now starting to see the affects mere with the coronavirus with their business. 23 ships cancelled arrivals. most were coming from china. >> the port of oakland gets 120 vessel calls a month. now with factory closures in effect in china, there is not that many to put on shippings. >> that means manufacturing production is down. as a result the car go coming to this country by ships will also be down. >> there are new restrictions for them coming to the u.s. if it has been in a chinese port, crew members have to stay on the vessel in the u.s. that
restriction won't really affect things here. >> the ship arrives in the u.s. and generally stops in los angeles or long beach first and then it comes to oakland. by the time a ship arrives in oakland, it hasn't been in china for the last two to three weeks. >> reporter: this is typical for this time of year. following lunar new year's celebrations in china. >> normally we would see some decline but that is being exacerbated by the coronavirus. it is used to going through the ebbs and flows through the global economy, but they want to make sure their customers get what they need to succeed. jackie ward. >> jason brooks weighed in on how those stock market impacts are affecting us here locally. >> there have been some local companies that have done better than most. clorox another big winner as
demand rises for disinfectants and they have drawn interest when they test a vaccine in the stricken city of wuhan. one northern california case is a woman. experts believe she is the first come munn ty based case of the coronavirus in the u.s. we still don't know how the woman contract the the virus. medical experts are trying to retrace her recent whir abouts. the woman was first at north bay vaca valley hospital before being transferred to u.c. davis medical center where she is right now. 84 healthcare workers from the vaca valley hospitals are at home and self monitoring for the disease after coming into contact with the patient. three davis students are under quarantine and they were all roommates on campus. one of the students showed mild
symptoms and being tested by the centers for disease control and prevention. the other two are being isolated. there are members of congress now working on a bill to fund the federal response. say lar henry is on capitol hill with that part of the story. >> reporter: this morning, members of congress met with health officials on the virus spread but some left early complaining democrats were criticizing the trump administration's response. >> they need to be solving the problem, not making political points. >> reporter: democrats in today's briefing said they were short on facts. they are critical of vice president mike pence who might be trying to muzzle health officials. >> pence seems like he may be vetting written statements. >> reporter: later today, members of the congress from california will meet again with health official toss discuss allegations that medical personnel did not have appropriate training or equipment to treat evacuees

we continue to follow this breaking news. a bay area vegetation fire in the month of february. we are looking live from our sales force tower camera as you can still see plumes of smoke going into the air. this is dissipated a lot. a big difference from a short time ago. crews are battling this fire. it broke out earlier at the state and county park. our other major breaking story within the hour. chopper 5 live over mineta san jose airport. right now you're looking at the private plane that made an emergency landing just a short time ago. it touched down without landing gear we're fold. it skidded to a stop. we have confirmed four people were on board that plane.
they walked away from this one. you can see all the emergency crews that were ready and still on the scene at mineta san jose airport mineta san jose international airport. as you would guess, this incident is impacting airport operations. one of the main runways remains closed for this investigation. they will have to clear the plane from the runway. you might start seeing more drones flying through men low park neighborhood because fire officials there are using drones for rooftop inspections and they may be the first fire agency in the country to do so. the fire protection district started the drone program in 2014 for emergency response. now they have 20 various drone blat forms but this is the first time they will be used for investigative and inspection work. she is believed to be the first fire agency and female drone pilot to do this kind of inspection and she said it
improved my safety by not having to climb on a ladder or a steep roof when it is wet and it is more effective because i can do a more thorough inspection. >> >> our dry streak continues. we have about 30 days without any rainfall. 0 for the month of february. we will likely end out the month of february with no rainfall and it does not look like any big winter storms coming our way anytime soon. we are looking at ab normally dry to even a moderate drought for parts of the bay area. every day that we have dry whether will add for the conditions out thor. it is concerning. we had that vegetation fire. they are still battling that fire near san bruno mountains. this is a big concern for us. here is a live look with our sales force tower camera looking at the bay bridge, east bay. you can see the clouds in the sky. nat indicates the changes for
us. we'll see cooler temperatures for the weekend although it is mild to warm out there in the 60s and 70s. upper 60s for concord, santa rosa. mid-60s oakland. and for san jose, 72 degrees. here is what to expect. more clouds for the afternoon, but still mild to warm and above average for this time of year. cooler for tomorrow by about ten degrees in some spots and even caller still on sunday dropping down to below average for this time of year. breezy for the coast and for the hill this weekend especially late saturday into sunday. that ridge of high pressure that brought the record highs earlier this week will move out of here and this low pressure system will cool us down for the weekend. you can see on futurecast we're looking at those clouds. then as we head through saturday and for sunday, of course, cooler weather and the wind as going to pick up late saturday into sunday for the coast and for the hills. so now, let's show you our
